My favorite failed coup was when a small group of Navy Seals tried to invade Venezuela by sea to topple Maduro and they ended up being caught and turned in by fisherman

My favorite was the coup of stark in 1990 by an unemployed french nuclear scientist. He posted everywhere that he was going to take over and was armed with a gun. Which was taken away from him by a volunteer cop. And then was given a 7 day sentence for attempting to over throw the government
Going to add the fact that the officer approached the man, complimented the Frenchman's gun, and wrestled him the moment the Frenchman was demonstrating how to reload one.
The Frenchman tried again a little later, but the ferryman recognized him, and refused to take him back.

My grandpa was Daniel Arap Moi's aide-de-camp(formal bodyguard) during his presidency. He was there the day the coup happened, he used to tell me stories about his military days. He ended up becoming a major general but nowadays he's retired. I live in Toronto but he still lives in Nairobi with my grandma and my uncles.

People seem to associate "coup" with negative connotations. It's a neutral word. Whether a coup is justified or not is on a case-by-case basis
You forgot the coup in the Soviet Union in August 1991 when a group of hardliners tried to depose Gorbachev only to fail miserably due to being inept and indecisive about it.
Don’t forget about Napoleon III, who not only failed miserably in the Strasbourg Coup, but also attempted a second coup by sea that resulted in his capture. He later became president of France and finally did a successful coup, so there’s that.

Where is the golpe Borghese? It was a coup in Italy led by a ww2 veteran supported by deviated agents of the Italian secret service and arguably the CIA. It was to be carried out by a few Carabinieri (gendarmerie) and some Forstali (sort of a police active in rural areas and with the roesponsapility of save guarding the forests) during the night. They reached the Italian senate, heavily armed there, and a radio station where they were thought to proclaim the formation of a new government formed by many of the politician already at the government (the DC) but removing the socialist and the comunist making the parties illegal. Somehow, someone, called the leader and ordered to retreat and they only registered the proclamation, not radioed it. The next day no one noticed anything because actually nothing really happened outside of the man involved and for three months no one knew there was actually an attempted coup. After three months a newspaper denounced the happenings and an investigation was launched but there were no material proof. Now the coup is still officially inexistent, even if it is recognized that there was something strange in that days

Oh man the list of original failed coups is endless. Here are some memorable ones:
The Seychelles coup led by Mike Hoare (someone mentioned it already here), read Hoare's book folks
The 1981 F-23 or Tejerazo coup attempt in Spain (look up the footage on YT)
The 1972 Moroccan failed coup against King Hassan II (read Jelloun's teriffic book "The Blinding Absence of Light" about the prisoners fate in the secret desert prison Tazmamart, highly recommended)
and probably my favourite, the 1975 coup attempt of Valeri Sablin, a Soviet sailor who led a mutiny on a battleship and tried to topple the Brezhnev regime. This was a truly quixotic act!!

Back in Indonesia, we had (probably) The Worst Unsuccessful Communist Coup/Revolution. The thing is PKI killed 9 generals, the uprisings accross The Spice Archipelago tried to took over ineffective government, but due to ridiculous start and lack of support from communist countries and organisations. PKI easily defeated and banned by the government to this day.
If you want start a coup, don't do that, it's ridiculous, dumb and easy-to-failed.
