    Are your VW T5 sliding windows leaking like mine were? The VW T5 side windows are a poor design.
    The VW T5 Drainage holes need to be kept clear.
    Watch this video on how to fix it and hopefully cure your VW T5 leaky windows.
    If you don't have an air compressor then try a syringe filled with water and use that instead to squirt into the drainage hole and clear it out.
    Thanks for watching.

    Thanks I'm away to try a can of compressed air for cleaning keyboards as my one of windows has sprung a leak. I use in roof drain holes of VW California, another weak point. Good tip for the windows is to keep channels clean and lubed with dry lube, they work a lot better.

    • @LurgsHowToGuides

      johndgn Yes a weak design and incredibly they've put them on the new T6 as well! Hopeless.

    • @johndgn
      @johndgn Před 5 lety +2

      @@LurgsHowToGuides yes they seem to carry over defects, think they'd get fed up with the warranty claims. More research reveals that the bottom locating pin(s) get worn as they are plastic (!) and then the window loses its seal as becomes loose with the drainage holes kicking in as back up so I might still have issues. I wonder if there are other better retrofit windows I could install later but I'll persevere with low cost solutions first.

  • @vamboroolz1612
    @vamboroolz1612 Před 3 měsíci +1

    They tend to get worse as time goes on. This is because the guides wear a flat surface causing the window to leak. Best to get the guides replaced when doing the drain holes then that covers you on two fronts😁.

    I'm trying that in the morning! The wet on mine was so bad that the door card warped, I opened the door the other day and now have scratches on the wheel arch where the card scraped across it!

    • @LurgsHowToGuides
      @LurgsHowToGuides  Před 2 lety

      Mine’s still not great, it’s a poor design, but having that drainage hole clear does help. Good luck

    • @sewob147
      @sewob147 Před 2 lety

      Done it and it's much better. The bottom of the frame is blown too so the window only opens one hole along. The other side was also completely blocked though thankfully there is no damage and the window opens fully. Next step is to see if that bottom piece of trim can be parted and (somehow) brought back to the proper shape.

  • @rossxchristieful
    @rossxchristieful Před 4 lety

    There are 2 drainage holes, one half way along, does anyone know how to clear that one? I cant see it to clear it!!! Mine are also clearing correctly on one side but the other side they are draining internally and externally. Looks like a plastic seal inside that is weeping?

    • @LurgsHowToGuides
      @LurgsHowToGuides  Před 4 lety

      Are you sure that's not just a hole for the clips when you slide the window along?
      If you read all the comments there is a bloke who posted a youtube video on how to fix the leaks. Unfortunately it's just a poor design, even with mine clear they still leak!

    • @rossxchristieful
      @rossxchristieful Před 4 lety +1

      @@LurgsHowToGuides definitely a drainage hole as the sliding door window has one and if i pour water in the channel it does drain at 2 points. Think I need to take the slider out and investigate further. You are right, it is a poor design though!

    There should be a recall from VW for this issue-this is my third VW van with the issue - 2 x T5, and now T6 with this exact issue. Or a class action by all owners - it's absurd!

    This whole isue just got a lot worse - a T6 Kombi had it's slider window fall out due to corrosion behind the slider bottom rail caused by the known leak problem . The rusting [ which is hidden from view ] causes the bottom slider rail to sag / drop and the slider window falls out . A very serious safety issue with catasrophic implications .

      Ouch. I was thinking about getting a T6 but it’s not much different to my T5 and they are so expensive! Was hoping youtube would make me rich but that’s not happening! If I ever do get rich I’d probably still get one but get a new Sportline Kombi and take it to ‘Pimp my Ride’.

  • @loadinglevelone
    @loadinglevelone Před 3 lety +1

    It's not so awful invention, it just requires maintenance. There's not really any other way of doing this. Water will get inside any window that opens and it must then be led outside somehow.
    It's the same for the T5's front doors actually. Water will get past the window seals, and water will run down into the doors. That's completely normal and it's like that on every other car out there. What folks fail to realize is that there is a small drainage hole on the bottom of the door that must be kept open. I've seen car door filled halfway up with water because of blocked drain holes in doors. The result is the doors rusting from the inside out, and you will not notice until it's years too late. So find those hole and give them a poke every now and then to keep open. Normal maintenance. That's all.

    • @LurgsHowToGuides
      @LurgsHowToGuides  Před 4 lety

      ilmaichi It must be really blocked up then, it should appear outside! Try an air compressor in it to see if you can clear it through. It's a poor design, mine still leaks even though the holes are clear.

    But clearing the draiage hole only lets the water inside! There is no channel to the outside!
    Mine had leaked for so long, the metal bracket holding the lower window runner had corroded away, leaving the runner bending up at the back. I cut one of them away and made up one from aluminium. It all fitted great but the window still leaked!
    So i taped it up with black tape and lost interest in fixing it. Terrible design.

      Yeh terrible design and they still put same design on T6. Can't believe humans put Men on the Moon yet they can't fit a window that doesn't leak. Mine still leaks now even with drainage holes clear.

  • @stephencrowe5118
    @stephencrowe5118 Před 4 lety

    This is not a drain hole but a locating hole for the pin to lock the window, believe me I've had four sets of windows changed on my old T5 and I've already had both windows changed on my new T6. VW know about the fault but have done nothing. Only solution is fixed windows or aftermarket ones.
