Actually thought before you said it, those look like the same old saws with used in CDT. Still have the desk I built in 1990.

There were some terrible teachers (teachers who used to hit and bully pupils) and some great teachers when I was there in the 1960s. A great shame that Joe Safkin didn't get rid of the bad teachers because they made life hell for some pupils. One teacher used to hit pupils (always the lad) from one side of the classroom to the other. Another even had the nickname of 'Basher' because he was forever hitting the lads. Even the domestic science teacher (not Miss Deed, as she was great) was a bully and would intimidate some of the girl pupils, and make them a laughing stock in front of the whole class. Some of the girls took extreme measures to make themselves ill in order to avoid going to school on domestic science day. These were not problem pupils. All those that remember Edge End as a great school were obviously not bullied/hit by any of the teachers.

Basher Tempest, if I'm not mistaken. Woodwork and Surveying.

Yes, Basher Tempest. Mr Wilkinson (cannot remember his forename) was the teacher that used to hit the lads across the head, and sent them reeling from one side of the classroom to the other

Also miss Stevens or Stevenson, can't remember which, she hit me across the back of the head with the very hard and thick physics book, whilst sitting in for the surveying teacher.
