    The diversity of New York City is what makes it such a special place. With many different countries, religions and backgrounds, it’s natural that sports and games born overseas make their way to our streets and avenues. Episode 1 of URBAN RECREATION dives into Vitilla, a form of baseball played with a plastic bottle cap and broomstick that started in the 70s. The stick ball game, popular in the Dominican Republic and played by many of today’s professional stars, takes over streets, alleys and ball fields across the city and provides a strong sense of home to a growing Latin community.

      Be greatful wit what you got man. Our bats used to be branches and our balls used to be anything from vitilla to a ball of socks with a rock in the middle to the bottle caps of bottles to even just rocks. The fact that u could go to family dollar and buy a 10 dollar ball is something that we thought was impossible.

    damn watching this, it brings me back to my childhood. I'm Native American, coming from a reservation we couldnt afford a bat or ball. so we would use a broom stick and a ball of tissue wrapped in duct tape. Ghetto ingenuity.

    In Venezuela we play something like that, we call it "Chapitas" and we use lot of bottle caps instead, we use a stick from a broom like a baseball bat and we play it on street not in a field or a basketball court.

      @@aidanoneil2352 Not. When the vitilla is hit if you catch in the air is an out. If the vitilla hits the ground and is still moving, if you catch is an out. If it hits you and you let fall it safe, so it can be a run, or you get a base, depending how you're palying it.

      +freshprinceofbellaire do u live in NY? do you really think asking a question like "does a major city have sports?" and then denying the right answer with sarcasm really makes sense? Do you even know anything about NY sports? New York isn't just the city either, there are a lot of really great sports schools in NY, whether it is basketball, track, football, soccer, literally anything you could think of. There are baseball fields and there are football fields, and they don't have to have them so extremely close in order for us to be good at them. I mean really

      +El_Oso_Gigante08 i live in a major city and yes we have sports, new york city is different becaue of the lack of space in places like manhattan and thats why i asked because i already knew that some dont have too much in the way of them the only option would be to bus kids kind of far so i was wondering and again i asked about new york city and youre telling me about how new york isnt just a city and how great new york schools are? now thats what doesnt really make sense. you worded my question to "do major cities have sports" to make it look stupid but thanks for giving the answer to the orginal one in the last line of your response

    • @DaMeloman32
      @DaMeloman32 Před 8 lety +2

      +freshprinceofbellaire just saying that NY school sports are good, but yes we do have spaces to practice football and basketball, there are more schools in the boroughs outside of Manhattan that have lots of space.
