I watched Pelé with this team Santos against Fenerbahçe on a friendly game. I was 22. I went from Izmir to Istanbul especially to watch Pelé. Santos won 6-1. I can still remember the names of the Brazilian players: Cejas - Orlando - Delgado - Alfonsinho - Bertan - Ze Carlos - Antenes - Clodoaldo - Alcindo - Pelé - Edu.

Pelé did not have the benefit of modern technology in sports. Pelé was not protected by the red cards as he played for 12 years early when there were no red cards. He got a lot on his team's excursions, Santos FC, and he was forced to play even injured.
in the 1966 World Cup, Portugal massacred Pelé with a disloyal kick. He left the field without being able to put his feet on the ground.
If Pelé had at his disposal the technology and the red cards to protect him, he would be even better.
That’s just a silly comment. Pele is the best of all time. Adding those qualifiers makes it seem that he lacked certain things. Moreover, football is about technique more than anything else. And his contemporaries played under the same rules as him. In that sense, it’s no use discussing something like technology. That hints at modern players being better than him, and they aren’t.

Well with the benefit of an easier offside rule in the current era and better protection by referees and tackling rule changes that the current era player has.It is very reasonable to assume Pele would have been more effective a player given that football in the current era isn't as rough regarding tackling and it's easier to stay on side given the offside rule is just level with last defender in the current era.
And anyone who played football at during even the latter half of the 1970s and throughout the 1980s.Would definitely know tackling in those days were significantly tougher and referees were less likely to give yellow and red cards.And tackles from behind were part of the game and if you were a decent dribbler of a football you definitely took several of those each game.And the offside rule was also harder for forward players to overcome.None of this current era level with last defender and you're still on side.As I remember you had to have at least one defender clearly Infront of you or you would be flagged offside.And the pitches were worse back then too.And Pele played the majority of his football during the latter 1950s and throughout the 1960s which was even earlier.

I remember several of these moves watching them live. The Banks save, the run around the keeper and near miss, and the volley shot of the goal kick have always stuck in my mind.

Dave Shields everybody taks about the brilliance of Pele... but nobody talks about the brilliance of white pele (tostao) the pass or the assist itself cut through 2 players... one of the greatest passes in the history of the game.... thats why it is known as team of the century....
Dave shields brazil has created great players... frankly speaking they could never produce another tostao.... he was perhaps the greatest playmaker from the attacking third to the penalty box area.... bobby moore said everybody... thought i would mark pele.. but i marked tostao... becuse he was the most important hub in the brazilian attack...

Ele podia ter 5 copas disputadas e de repente até 6 pq teria 37 em 78 mas dificilmente pra não dizer praticamente impossível ele teria uma participação tão lendária quanto essa além claro de coroar com o título. E no final é isso que fica, abriu mão de vaidade por recordes de participação, talvez de gols mas ficou no imaginário popular, quando lembram dele, lembram dele assim voando e destruindo

Anyone arguing then vs now, it's amazing how many times Pele is "taken out" just in this video, and I doubt hardly any of them were yellow cards like they would be today. And he didnt just fall down pretending, he was seriously taken down a lot.

I still think Pele is the most effective footballer who has ever played the game.He did it at every level and a big match player even at international level both scoring and providing goals assists.And a complete player who had wonderful improvisation and vision.And even those goals he attempted and didn't score in the video.I have seen other videos that show Pele attempting similar and scoring them.So don't think Pele only did these in the video he did these several times during his career.

His name was Kurt Hamrin, and he played many years in Serie A in Italy in 50-60s.
I heard Nils Liedholm, another great Swedish player from that era, tell this story on TV

Yo tenía 15 años cuando tuvo lugar el Campeonato Mundial de Méjico 1970, y aunque todavía la televisión no era en color, todavía lo recuerdo como si hubiera sido ayer. Cuando había partidos simultáneos, los pasaban uno por cada canal. Pero lo más memorable de ese torneo sin duda fue la Selección de Brasil. Ninguna de las que la sucedieron en torneos posteriores hasta el día de hoy ha igualado la magia que nacía de los pies de Pelé, la precisión de sus pases y asistencias, y la picardía y astucia de sus compañeros hacían que cada partido fuera una fantasía de coordinación y movimientos casi preparados. Y tal era su habilidad, que sus rivales no hallaban otra forma de pararlo que las zancadillas o las encerronas, o las entradas bruscas. Pero con todo y eso logró terminar ese torneo jugando, cosa que no pudo hacer en 1962 y 1966, donde las patadas violentas que de continuo le cometían hicieron que terminara lesionado. Y en 1958, con apenas 17 años, contribuyó con dos goles a ganar la primera copa del mundo para Brasil.
