In his autobiography Dylan writes that his dad wanted him to study and become a mechanical engineer. Him writing songs seemed a joke to his father and he laughed when he told them he was going to NY.

Fascinating to watch Bob's behavior up there. He's aware of every nuance and he would've made an equally compelling actor. He has a complete grasp of his persona and works it well. lol

I wouldn’t doubt if he was thinking everything Ricky Gervais said to all those Hollywood people. Then, in his mind, he said “Nah. I better not. Not the right time. Timing is everything.“. And then he finished with genius from the Lord himself. Most can’t see that he is using body language to tell the good people of the world, he is NOT one of them. I can see it. Imagine being fully awake to what Hollywood is and having to be in the middle of it.

Can’t you see that he’s actually acting? He’s not “out of it”, he’s playing a part, and doing a Chaplin thing. He also delivers something both funny - and profound in a brief period. This shiftiness and hat tweaking is all part of the act.

That is partly why I believe what he said came from the heart, unrehearsed- beautiful message- but yes, he was wasted.
As "wasted" as he may have been, I've watched this countless times and still can't recite what his daddy told him. It even took a few listens to understand what exactly he meant, but it is simply one of the most beautiful encouraging thing I ever heard. ❤️
