How to Reload Disposable Cameras-A Tutorial

  • Yes! You can reload disposable cameras! I'll show you how-provided you have a dark bag and a roll of film (err, and a disposable camera, of course.)
    The main trick is re-rolling the film onto a plastic bobbin in your dark bag without being able to see what you're doing. With a little practice, you'll be reloading that disposable in the passenger's seat of your buddy's car, while driving to an epic climb, in no time. (He will, however, look at you funny as you fiddle with something in a black bag, in your lap.)
    If you try it an run into any problems, let me know in the comments. I can try and update the video to better explain anything that is unclear.
    Also, feel free to suggest subjects for my next tutorial.

    Hey, man great video! I just got curious and started thinking about reloading disposables so I looked it up and here I am. I was wondering how you go about asking for empties at a film development place. Some of the places I occasionally go to are a tad more expensive regardless so I don't know if they'd be throwing their empty disposables my way lol

If i want to ship it, ill pay 4x the amount of regular 300 kodak film. What film do you actually put in your disposables?

    • @dbloomsday

      There isn't much 800 film because it's generally accepted that most 400 films push easily to 800. If you don't develop yourself, just tell your lab to push it one stop.

    I just bought film to try this and I'm so scared to ruin it

    • @gambardella1209
      @gambardella1209 Před 7 lety

      Update:
      I just loaded the film. Thing is I had a bit of trouble when I rewinded back the film into the "bobine" because when I pushed it with my fingers it began to be loose therefore the film around the "bobine" isn't tight at all. That's one thing...
      The second is that because of this I can't close the camera completely since the roll is too loose. But I guess it's not too much of an issue because I just taped it veryy tightly where it could not close.
      Third isn't actually an issue (woohoo!) but I took 3 photos with it, and although it is quite tough to move on to the next exposure, it still works. So I guess everything's fine? And last: my question about the fingerprints still stands, because I'm afraid i just ruined the whole film :(
      I'm not sure if you can actually understand what I said because I don't have much vocab abt film photography sorry abt that..

    • @dbloomsday
      @dbloomsday  Před 7 lety +1

      You can absolutely do it in a dark room-just make sure there's absolutely no light!
      Honestly, I wouldn't worry *too* much about fingerprints, especially if you wash the film when you develop. Don't be scared to ruin film-it's all part of the learning/experimentation process!

    This did not work for me using a fujifilm quick snap. Totally different from the kodak, also id like to say, these cameras are known to overexpose the 800iso film a little bit. It is perfectly ok to use 100-400iso without pushing, try it out. Mileage may vary

    • @dbloomsday
      @dbloomsday  Před 7 lety

      spongebobdriftpants I don't know the Fuji disposables that well-I'll have to look into it. as far as the exposure index, on the Kodaks (with the flash) EI is right about 800. (I do all of my own lab work, this is something I know for sure). Also, with color film, you have much more exposure latitude; so, yes, you can mess with ISO sure a bit more. with B&W you need to be more careful. Even during the day, in the shade, sometimes the Kodaks underexpose the photo without the flash engaged.
