Swedish people are deathly afraid of embarrassing themselves, it’s a huge part of our culture, and I can kind of feel that in the voting at MF. We’ve found a niche where no one comes to hate us, and we’re very afraid of going outside that, so we push away some of the “weirder” entries because we don’t want to leave our guarantee. This is why, alongside the very genuine love of Mello, there’s an equally genuine hate/apathy for it in Sweden, because it’s so similar year after year.
It seems like this should be the one year they send something different because they automatically qualify, so there's not really much embarrassment that could happen.

I can't wait to lie awake on weekday nights with my windows vibrating from the 30 km/h song when I'm getting up for work in four hours. The genre is for teenagers with high quality sound systems in their cars with BASS, often leading to conflicts in the local Facebook group here when people are trying to sleep, and mostly in the summer when the car people who DJ for the whole village don't have school, but other people still have work.

16:38 I agree, I thought that Lasse Stefanz would for sure get the 12p from the 75+ and perhaps the 60-74 too, these ages loving Albin Tingwall so much came a bit out of the blue for me. But I guess those generations watch Idol a lot, idk. Fun fact about Lasse Stefanz, the singer (then drummer), started the band with his friends when he was only 12! He's the only original member left now 57 years later. That's pretty impressive. It's not my kind of music, but I still like that Melodifestivalen pay homage to some of our old-time artists, and let them compete in the contest. It's just gives a feeling of familiarity and coziness, it's just run-of-the-mills dansband song about remembering a summer long ago.
I was sooo disappointed Scarlet came 4th. It's weird to think how insanely well this could've gone over in a national final like MGP versus the poor placement in Melfest.

Totally agree! My favorite. I think unless something shocking happens next week, it's gonna be Jacqueline. I thought she was good, but I feel like we've heard it before.
@@aekelly we still have M&M left and also Medina and Jay Smith. But something tells me that neither of them will have a song that matches up to Liamoo. Well that's of course if we would be brave enough to send something new and different as Scarlet. This year we have that choice, we have nothing to loose by trying sending something different and unusual. We won't win twice anyways so why don't give it a try and see where it leads. As a Swede myself I'm hoping for that and keeping my fingers crossed 😅🙏
@@melina7202 you're wise! I thought Liamoo sounded so phoned in. I mean his expressions and mannerisms were all dramatic, I just thought the song was really boring. I probably won't make any Swedish friends by saying this but M&M's song was lame last year. Or I'm old. 😂 If S&T wrote one of their more fabulous songs for Jay - that could be beautiful!
Danny's song was the blandest thing ever for me. So generic.The staging was kinda empty too, it doesn't give me anything. Hope M&M will come with a sleek performance and win, because it's most likely between them and Danny. Dotter has no chance of winning, but her and Scarlet were miles ahead of everyone yesterday.
Danny should win. Is his song dated? yes, does that make it bad? not at all! I think he executed it flawlessly, the staging was effective and impactful, and the song has a nostalgic feeling that I think will resonate with many people, it is also extremely catchy at first listen. I think Scarlet has a very good performance but I don't think the song is memorable or catchy enough at first listen, and Sweden should send a complete package, which Danny has, Scarlet is 70% there (I didn't think their makeup was cool, I thought it looks a little childish tbh, if they wanted to go dark they should've gone all the way with it).
I think the problem w Scarlet is that they are pretty unknown, I think a lot of people might show up in the semi for them

You are totally correct about all of his 10 Melodifestivalen songs going direct to final. That's pretty impressive.
Dotter was the only one I voted for. It's the best song so far in Melodifestivalen. 💖
The scores didn't make sense to me this heat. I thought for sure Scarlet was going to go direct to Final with that amazing Circus X performance. But I guess name recognition and a more standard song gets you further in Sweden. 😐 Tbh I didn't care for any of these songs since musically I didn't find any of them as strong as any of the heat 2 winners which are my current tops. But watching the live, Danny did deliver and elevate that song so he and 30km/h were my other picks following Scarlet. Dotter was disappointing to me with a mid song, but I guess she has die-hard fans...

You see it exactly like I do on all the songs in Melodifestivalen (that is kind of surprising, possible only differense is that I think Smash In To Pieces is better than you think). . I am surprised by your knowledge as well.
Scarlet is great and I found it really really weird that this Albin guy came 3:d instead. I thought it was a given that Scarlet would have that place and then qualify to the big final. With that said Scarlet song could have been even better. The ending is just so good. But some of the song is kind of repetetive. Ifthey had something similar to the ening inthe midpart of the song it would be amazing.
I personally think Dotter's song this year is the most vocally impressive thing she's ever competed with. I like the vocals she gave even though she was very sick at the time. It really felt like she has evolved as a singer.
About dotter she sounded much better in the rehersal, because the day befors the heat she completly lost her voice and she was sick the whole weak before aswell but its a grower and i think she Will win you over in the final, and if her voice is better then i can se her winning actually, its kind of a diffrent song for us i think if we send it!
ive got it a bit in my head, so im keeping an open mind towards it. also obviously because i love Dotter as well

Wow, Albin was *really* bad. Both Dotter and Danny were super disappointing. Scarlet were the only ones I liked. Kinda sad knowing neither them nor Jacqline have a shot at winning Mello this year.

I love scarlet, they've been one of my top artists for the last few years, so I was very excited when I saw they where gonna compete. And they didn't disappoint.
My theory to why metal music has a hard time in Melodifestivalen is that I think the overlap between the swedes that listen to metal and watches Melodifestivalen is very low. Among the people I know, quite a lot of them listen to metal, but besides myself I don't think I know a single person who both listens to metal and watches Melodifestivalen.

Scarlet definitely had the most interesting song out of these six. I'm not really interested in epadunk, but I thought 30 km/h was a way better song than Unga och fria. (Btw, you keep saying Shnusk but it should Snusk.) 😋

Scarlet was the best I heard in Melfest in the last years and it's a robbery that they didn't even make the final.
More then in any other heat, the voters really voted for the big names instead of the songs. I‘m still surprised that Danny still seems to me like this hidden master figure of Melodifestivalen that is popular but not as popular enough to win the whole thing. And I have such a strange feeling with this song because the chorus is so bad and the end felt so cutted, but I‘m absolutely fine with the rest of it. It‘s not the only DTF-song that I like from this year, but actually the only one where I‘m upset about that I still have to wait one more week for the studio-release.
I can agree with your Dotter-take. She desperatly wants to seem vulnerable in this performance but it doesn‘t really fit at all. I‘m happy for her that she made it, but in the end she will be more of a filler for the final then a winning-contender.
And those 3rd placers in the heats 😰 it won‘t get better. Albin‘s qualification to the run-off was such a strange surprise, especially against Lia, which didn‘t had a masterpiece of a song, but it was definitely more entertaining than his song.
And I’m fine with the rest of the results. Looking forward to heat 5.
Yea if dotters song was called “I wanna bang” or “seduction”, then I could understand the staging. But with a romantic theme it’s just so off

@@ESCTom I think lia not making it gives fröken a good chance there’s no other epadunk to compete with, and I think everyone online is giving scarlet massive support so I hope they bring that to the vote for the run offs (what a final it would be)
Top 2 were very good but Scarlet ware mind blowing when I watched it live online here in the UK, I was head to toe in Goosebumps, they should have won the heat full stop but I am afraid we might have another Statements (not even making the final, god I hope not though)

Lia had a good concept but the song was a bit repetitive. It would be nice to see Scarlet in the final: it is something different. It is needed since I find the songs this year a bit generic.

My honest opinions: This was best of the semi finals so far (which is not a massive achievement). Scarlet was totally the best one, way superior to every other songs so far this Melodifestivalen year (And obviously Swedes do not realize it and go for big names 🙄). Dotter was okay, but the song was probably the most boring one she has had in Mello. And Danny Saucedo's song is just overhyper boredom and generic pop song, sorry. Staging was good though but thats not really a miracle in Mello. Rest of the songs did not remain in my memory ater the song ended, but i have a faint memory that those were better than the songs in other semi finals aswell.
Scarlet would also match the theme of this year of witchery and strange performances 😆. But im totally fine with Danny winning and going to Eurovision, it would make it much easier for my country (Finland) to beat Sweden (in tele score) this year 😎.
Yea scarlet would fit the theme although it would still feel different sonically and visually it feels more vaudeville circus movies

I don’t even think a NQ would make them change. They are number 1 in the last 10 years, there’s no incentive to change even with 1 bad result

Scarlet should have won this Semi, the voting resembles as if AI was asked how Swedish voters vote, and predicted the order we got. And yes, Dotter toucher herself too much, that is not sexy it is creepy.

This heat was the weakest one so far for sure, if Kim Cesarion and Clara Klingenström from last week would be in this heat they would have qualified. Fingers crossed last heat next week will be stronger

At some point the Sweden formula is going to start failing…. They’re the best at generic English-language radio pop, but Eurovision is moving away from that. They need to embrace their Scarlets to avoid becoming the next Ireland.
well i think theyre very far from that tbh, they are currently number 1 in the rankings for the last 10 years, above Italy and Ukraine. they would need 4-5 absolutely disasterous results before there's any movement to chance imo.
Realistically, I think it would take the contest evolving heavily away from standard pop
