  • JP Sears invites you to shatter your 1 dimensional view of the law of attraction that you may have picked up from The Secret or countless other self help books! He'll challenge you to consider that the law of attraction mindset, as it's traditionally used, is a facade of personal development and spirituality justifying your ego's desire to control your life.

The hardest part of becoming self-aware (and then healing) is that no one around you can understand you then. They won't understand why you aren't aggressive, ever get angry, want a better job or a bigger house, why you do "boring things" like savoring the taste of xyz tea, are amazed by Bob Ross (ie), or are content to sit on the porch and listen to the birds sing.

First of all, great observation. Second, I prefer to steer clear of calling it "healing" because I think that "growth" is a much better description of what the process actually is, and also because the word "healing" tends to feed into the delusion that you are broken in a way no one else is, rather than what's actually happening (you are human and life is an inherently difficult experience). Third, one thing that I, personally, have found helps this part of the growth to not be so hard is to try to have fun with it. I show respect to people who wonder about and ask about those things about me, and most of time I even humor them because I get the sense that most folks I speak with won't understand (and therefore tend to not accept as truthful) my honest explanation. But in the back of my mind I'm laughing. Not laughing AT them, not acting condescending, but laughing like I'm having an inside joke with myself and the people I know who DO understand, even if they aren't in the room with me. I find looking at it that way takes a lot of the edge off of being yourself around others. Also, try to embrace the aforementioned "edge." Lean into the discomfort and try to find some pleasure in it.

The (original) Law of Attraction .. Wayne Dyer is:
"You are not attracted to what you want. You are attracted to who you are." which is about self awareness .. a part of being who you are
How this became related to the power of positive thinking .. i just don't know .. there is also a lot of belief in prosperity preaching
really the same concept .. as you say .. attempts to have an illusion of control .. of the events of life .. of how others are

    • @Dominiqueuqinimod
      @Dominiqueuqinimod Před 8 lety +8

But you already are who you are. You don't need some hokey crap to "manifest" who you are and you certainly don't need to buy a book or attend some overly priced seminar. By your own reasoning, none of us actually need the law of attraction, so truly, maybe it's time to ask yourself why you feel so connected to the idea of it.

    • @NityanandaDas
      @NityanandaDas Před 8 lety +3

+Dominique M, have you studied about Eastern philosophies? There are various levels of awareness, consciousness, and the self is somewhere inside those layers. The idea is to peel off each layer that was added by the influence of nature and nurture. When someone tells a new born "you are a boy" or "you are a girl" they are putting a label and forcing that individual to behave in a pre-set way. Some children are fortunate enough to not have to behave in a girlish or boyish way, then they can express themselves fully, cry when they have to, and stand on their guns when someone else wants to control them.
Sure, you don't need a book or a seminar or a CD or a prescription drug to peel off the layers, though some Hallucinogenics will help you experience the sensation of no boundaries and a connection with all there is.
I hope more people were curious about the missing elements in LOA and started to get the full equation to apply in their lives.

      Erik Aamot Funny!!
Abraham-Hicks says YOU ATTRACT (not consciously) what is a vibrational mach to you. Wich is very different in idea: "you're attracted to" is different from "you attract", meaning the first one that you DESIRE certain things that mirror yourself, and the second means that the state you practice being on (a state of blissful releasing/confidence or state of resistance/fear) brings you correspondant experiences. By being open you're available to goodness; by being resistant you don't allow goodness. I think it also applies for the idea of constantly "attracting" the same negative patterns that keep appearing wich are based in a emotional imprint/fear/trauma...
As I find some correspondence in all of this, I still cannot see it as a universal "law" whatsoever. But a simple magnet system.

How great to find someone trying to detangle all the nonsense that has evolved around yoga/spirituality/etc. From what I've seen so far, he is simply returning us to the original wisdom unearthed by our ancient forbears. @TheInnerQuestJourney Před 10 lety +45

I really think it's about finding balance between the personal desires, and the concept of surrendering to one's spirit or higher self as you described. It's possible to be imbalanced in both directions: either overly obsessed with what you want based on your conscious thoughts and ego desires, forgetting about the grander picture and the wisdom of the higher self; or else relinquishing all power over to something higher and expecting the work to be done for us by something else. Because as long as we have a physical body, in a physical world with real physical needs, we still do need "stuff": food, shelter, clothing, friends, romance, etc. And our higher self isn't going to take the necessary action in the real world to get us those things. So yeah, some good thoughts overall, because I think there are misunderstandings that the Law of Attraction is all about your conscious thoughts. When in fact we are creating our reality through our subconscious self to a great extent, and that is the part of us that needs a lot of rearranging.

    • @Lyricist1anda2

2 yrs ago on a JP Sears video you said, "When in fact we are creating our reality through our subconscious self to a great extent, and that is the part of us that needs a lot of rearranging." Words of wisdom I think. Judging by the fact that what I want consciously does not come easily, and looking at my subconscious dreams, I wonder what the heck I'm attracting. I'm wondering what effect the personality/astrology has in its role.
Now if I can just learn how to rearrange that subconscious :/ Light and Love.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for explaining this better than I've ever heard. Some people who buy into this version of the 'law of attraction' have been so mean and indifferent to me since I started experiencing some health issues, treating me like I'm irresponsible or less than they are for 'attracting' health issues in my life and not taking responsibility to attract something different. Mind you, I am one of the most disciplined people you could ever meet when it comes to health. Still, I get looked down upon, when what I have is very similar to cancer, though much more rare. It really is about surrendering. It's about developing our soul, and things that may seem detrimental on the outside are shaping and forming us into the beautiful people we are meant to become. This is so brilliantly stated here; thank you so much. I hope it truly enlightens people and helps them be more kind and understanding to each other, as well as themselves, and not so judgmental. Peace & Love

You are crazy smart! I love this channel!
When I'm upset I'm not getting what I want, if I sit down and ask myself why I really want something, how I actually want to feel (rather than what to have), I would realize sometimes the answer is a lot simpler. For example I had a health problem that was embarrassing and I had trouble hiding.. and I thought if it went away I would feel better. But when I thought about it, I realized I would always find something else to feel uncomfortable, exposed, awkward, judged about.. it also gave me an excuse to have a scapegoat or victim mentality. I learned to tell myself a new story, that I am comfortable and confident, and I was surprised my health problems went away :)

I believe in LOA but I never intentionally tried to attract money or anything materialistic but I have at times ( like crazy discounts or free stuff) just from getting myself into that space of good vibes. LOA for me is teaching myself to get out if negative habits, thinking & beliefs. I've only really learned from Abraham Hicks & from what I see she doesn't really preach about material things she just wants everyone to feel good and then she says the good things will come but you can't look for them and you have to be ok if they don't. Hope that makes sense lol

Love the videos! I would just like to add a distinction between attracting what the ego wants through focus versus practice visualizing a broader sense of possibilities for ones self, to break a conditioned and limiting expectation and circumstance. For instance rising up out of poverty being first in family to go to college, or take a risk and start your own company. You have to be able to see it first. Theres no less leg work, but visualization can be s powerful prestep. Somethimes it takes practice building a visual belief that your circumstances coukd be any different. The law of attraction got hijacked by "the secret" and many other authors.

What I have learnt is that our thoughts do control our reality to a large extent, and if we control our thoughts, such as through affirmations, with the intent of gratifying the ego we will achieve this more successfully than with no "conscious" influence over our thoughts. However, as you have pointed out this is actually getting what our "needy, wounded inadequate feeling ego wants" which may be the greatest curse, the "dirt that covers up the real me". At the moment I think that the basis of the law of attraction, that our thoughts can control our reality, can perhaps be used positively and less egoicly if our thoughts and affirmations are used to manifest the greatest and highest good for all, not for ourselves.----- Loving your stuff, you've got a new subscriber, keep it coming please!

The LOA he is speaking of is the Hollywood version and is absolutely misinterpreted. The big misconception around the LOA is that you can just think things into existence. Those who believe they can say affirmations and think thoughts to create reality are sorely mislead. The only way to create anything is to realize that you already ARE everything. To loose all desire is to have "arrived". Which is what he was saying, but then he contradicted himself when he states that the LOA is to have "desire" for things. Which in the Hollywood version of the LOA, that may be true. But when you truly understand the science and physics behind quantum mechanics, you realize that the only way to "manifest" (which is really just another word for realizing what already exists) is to BECOME the vibration of the existence that you prefer. Nothing exists without a conscious observer. So, while our higher self has incarnated into a physical form, even if we loose all "desire", it will still "create" an existence for the physical self based on the vibration it projects. So we ARE still ultimately responsible for creating our reality,..whether we take accountability for that or not!

You must have a desire for what you want and combine that with the spiritual laws of the mental/emotional realms which are higher than the physical realm and have domain over the physical. all things in the universe are mental and made out of energy so all things in physical existence first are created in mind, you first create whatever you desire as already existing for you now and it will drop down from the higher realms (thought and emotions) into the physical realm. So yes you create everything mentally. That is what all this spiritual stuff is teaching. that the easiest and most effortless path to your desire is using your spiritual powers or mental powers to create them which also includes letting go and giving your trust the infinite all knowing spirit to give you what you desire but you must know how to ask for it. That is where most people fail. you do that by creating the thoughts and emotions of already having what you desire in the now. if you think about it in future terms you are creating or "asking" spirit for lack or for a time delay. The problem has always been in the asking. You must claim it by imagining it as already having it.

      @octaviarose9342 Před 8 lety +3

I agree on the surface, but I think he's essentially saying the same thing that I've learned from many other teachers. I've been studying and consciously using LOA for almost ten years, and there are a lot of deeper teachings once you get past the overly simplistic "kindergarten versions". Here's my take: There are surface "wants" and there are deep desires (which mesh with our true selves.) We often think we want certain things, but they aren't what we really need, deep down. The best thing we can do is come to honestly know ourselves, and seek what will truly fulfill us. Then we won't be seeking ''toys" in futile effort to find what makes us happy.
But that doesn't mean we can't have the "icing on the cake" if we decide we want it. It's fine to be, for example, an admirer of fine cars, and to desire to own one or more. "Surrendering" doesn't mean you don't want it, it only means that you're not clinging to the idea and making your happiness dependent upon it. You know you're fine with or without it, though you do your vision boards and other tools to help focus bring it into your life. It's the "clinging" that's detrimental. There's a huge difference between the idea of owning a Porsche as a vital part of your identity, vs enjoying a well-built, beautiful car, but knowing that you don't NEED it to complete you as a person.

JP here's my thoughts and observations after using "the law of attraction" for many years. And I did achieve all my seeds that I planted years ago and I'm planting seeds now for the future. but I am now coming to see that I am really just being led on a path by something bigger than me and I have placed full trust and faith in it and things just always work out. I find that the things I "wish I had" and the seeds that I plant are possibly pre-programmed into me , maybe it is destiny, a pre-planned book for me. perhaps the things I crave are the things that are naturally part of my path in life. but finding the concept of positive mindset and law of attraction has been a stepping stone to this present state. everything is a lesson and a tool for me. thanks for hte video

i also wanted to add...I prefer not to use the term law of attraction now. What I tell people is: Your emotions become your thoughts, your thoughts become your actions. THe purer the emotion, the purer the thought, the better the action. I noursih myself with the fundamentals of PHYSICAL HEALTH which is what gives the EASE of having emotional poise and positivity. When you have not slept, not eaten, need to go to the toilet but you're stuck in traffic in the summer heat with no air con your mood plummets!!! suddenly it will take a tremendous amount of willpower to remain positive simply because we failed to meet our FUNDAMENTALS of physical health!

You think those people haven’t thought of better days? Don’t you think they’d love the ability to think something and it comes true, like you apparently can? Or do you believe that they’re in their situations because their “mindset” is off. Give me a break!

I will have to disagree with you on some points. People should be as "in control" of their lives as they physically, possibly can be. Being bent and swayed by external forces all the time means you are not fulfilling your life purpose or goal. You are becoming what the external world wants, not what you want. Desires, even "futile" ones help us to grow, expand and come exactly to the place we need to be in. You may not understand what I am saying, but it will make sense, in time.

Ego and subconscious work hand in hand. It's not your ego that says you don't deserve it's your subconscious that believes that by instances or moments in your past when it formed that belief system. That's why no matter what your ego may want it's your subconscious that runs the "manifesting" show. So the key is to surrender, meditate on letting go and just being. It's really about compassion for all suffering, including your own. Instead of focusing on egoic desires it would be better to focus on ending suffering for everyone and all sentient life. And then take action, do something like volunteer, offer your services or donate to causes that promote the wellbeing of others and end aggression, war and suffering. We won't make it if we don't wisen up to this.

Great talk, JP! 'Law' of Attraction should more properly be called 'Theory' of Positive Thinking, because that's all it amounts to. Incidentally, recently I found a Buddhist scholar's blog who wrote: "Buddha did not think that thinking in itself was effective at bringing about change."
Buddha reportedly said: "These five things, householder, are welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. Which five? Long life is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. Beauty is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. Happiness is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. Status is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. Rebirth in heaven is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. *Now, I tell you, these five things are not to be obtained by reason of prayers or wishes. If they were to be obtained by reason of prayers or wishes, who here would lack them?*”
What was effective, Buddha said, was following the path of practice [action!] that leads to these outcomes. And I would add, that Buddha taught a practice of acceptance/embracing of the out-of-control nature of conscious experience by letting go of attachments, cravings, and expectations as a path to lessen suffering. Maybe in 'past' lives we have already experienced other realities that could be controlled by thought, and they get boring to us; it becomes like making love to a blow-up doll. The beauty of life in this reality *is* that so much of it is out of control and it's up to each of us to choose how we react to events or create change through action.

Abraham-Hicks describes LOA : " You attract what is a vibrational match to you" wich is basically about cultivating a state of mind/spirit free of resistance in order to be open/available to experience life and opportunities. I think that is as far as this "law" can go.
(Just to clarify that is not the same as positive thinking).

+808ProStreet When our actions are in divine alignment usually the universe or higher intelligences conspire to aid your endeavor. But most people are so divorced from their higher self, that the desired manifestation is hit or miss. A selfish ego can sabotage what would be the best experience for you. Sometimes we need to appreciate lessons negative experiences teach us. The Earth matrix construct provides us opportunities for soul growth and full spectrum awareness. Hopefully we evolve to a higher state of being where material and perceptual limitations are no longer such a limiting obstacle.

Why people have desires or wants is not always ego based. Many people struggle and their desires are their dreams to end their struggle. What happens is that the law of attraction causes them to believe that their struggles can end through acquisition, which I agree is not true. Yet, the basic desire or wants are a way to actualize the self not just the demands of the ego. We want because we want to live the best life possible and be free from pain. Aligning with desires is not the function of the ego but an expression of potential. Yes it can turn into greed and lack of compassion for others. But, at its heart it is not - it is aligning with the person's potential so they can live up to their higher selves. Alignment with a vision of desire is not ego based but serving a higher purpose. Just as a person makes videos because they have a vision aligning with the potential of one's self - one's wants - is their higher vision. Every concept of spirituality becomes misconstrued by those who turn it into something it is not but the essence of the law of attraction is alignment with vision.

LoA seems to work via confirmation bias. We don't always know what's best for ourselves until that thing happens. That event might be something that our conscious minds construe as positive and it might be something that our conscious minds construe as negative, but it is quite an egotistical viewpoint to have to think that because something happens or doesn't happen in our lives, it is something that the universe has blessed us with because of our own greatness. As JP said, we use that belief often times to discharge the anxiety of "being ourself." I fully agree.

+Mary Ann Reiger, this is a great point, and this is the main problem with the overall mentality in North America, that I will feel better as soon as I get the latest model of electronic device or a new relationship. Basically, it all depends on the priorities, we can go the hard way (have-do-be) or (do-have-be), however, when we accept that first we must find peace with what and where we are, then we can be, regardless of what we do or how much we have. This is what the ancient traditions of Asia teach once you strip out all the flowery language and clever quotes.

+Dominique M, for me, awareness was always the key element in personal growth. I like that JP tries to focus on that from various points of view in his videos. Without awareness, say that someone is choosing to remain ignorant about something, then, the amount of information they possess will drive them to act in a way completely different than if they had more information.
I believed that force was bad, because we are oft told that women and children are abused by strong men, but then my whole view changed when I understood that strong men can in fact offer protection to women and children, and use their force for a great service. A blade on the hands of a criminal or a surgeon will have opposite effects on the same person on the other end of it.

I always thought one huge problem with LOA is that focusing on the one "law," is not only an egotistical feast, but ignores the dozens, hundreds, or millions of other "universal laws," meaning, LOA is an incomplete picture. As someone who is currently writing a Law of Attraction book, I can see where you're coming from. You see, I've been studying LoA-type books since the '80s, and I understand that much of what is said, whether written by Earl Nightingale, Ken Keyes or Bob Proctor, goes way outside the reader's overton window so that either they cut bits off to fit their worldview, or else they lose all sense of where they are and they've got nothing to relate what they are reading to.
I am a witch, and having this kind of mind gives me special insights into the various mechanical and spiritual parts of it, as it may or may not relate to the reader. Of course, I am also aware that my understanding of the subject will likely not translate, as is, to the minds of those who will eventually pick up my book. Knowing this, however, enables me to correct not just for that but, given my experiences over thirty years, to the incredulity in the minds of the science-steeped sceptic who needs further convincing. And so I relay not just spiritual, vibrational and other truths, but lace them with enough scientific thought from those - like Tesla and Einstein, for whom they will have respect. Thus I bring them all into the fold and encourage them, the right way, to manifest physically what is within them to achieve.

The "matrix" (our reality) is shaped not by what we say, it's shaped by what we do, or project. & the matrix reflects that "Vibe" back to us as what we experience in our lives. It's not about asking for Ferrari's of tons of money. It's about realizing the vast amounts of wealth the universe has to share in a myriad of forms, & being grateful for that!

Manifestation has more to do with deep beliefs and emotions than it does with just "wanting" something. A person can "want" to be thin and look in the mirror and say "I am thin" but if that person secretly fears that she will never lose weight then "The Law of Attraction" will never work for her. The FEAR will block what she "wants" (thinness) and her fear will actually manifest her not being able to lose weight because fear has such strong energy. But if someone dreams of visiting Ireland and they daydream about it and do online research and listen to Irish music and even cook Irish food at home because they are so in love with their dream of going to Ireland then there is a good likelihood that person might just win a trip to Ireland or land a great great deal on a trip to Ireland or come into a small windfall of money that will just afford them their trip to Ireland. Because soul co-creates with us our biggest most heart-centered dreams. Unfortunately fear can kill our dreams so we should avoid fear and worry to allow our manifested dreams to come to us. I speak from experience because I am living a highly unusual existence where I manifest quickly but have very often manifested some of my worst fears into my reality without realizing I could do it or believing I could. Higher Self tried to get me to believe in energy but I would not believe it until certain parts of my life exploded in my face in clear cause and effect and now I can no longer ignore it. Law of Attraction is very powerful but when done with no awareness can really screw life up because you attract crappy stuff and experiences to you based on worrying about it. Hence why a person who is afraid of being abandoned will totally attract men who leave her over and over again because she is creating what she worries about. Only when you can see what you are doing and change the erroneous beliefs will the painful pattern end. Law of Attraction is NOT discriminating! You do not only attract the good stuff. You will attract whatever you put the most deepest thoughts and especially emotions towards. A Woman who begins to love herself and think, "I am perfect just as I am" will then find people coming into her life who show her unconditional love and acceptance because the world and especially people are our biggest mirrors to show us what we are attracting. But flip that around to a woman who thinks, "I am stupid and ugly and no good man will ever want me." Well her relationships are going to be Hellish until she begins to heal because she will attract to her men who will show her how she feels about herself. I believe this is why Jesus told us to love our enemies because sometimes people will say mean shit to us or hurt us to reflect back to us what we are already thinking about ourselves, those people are being used as a mirror. I live it on the daily and there are times I've contemplated leaving this planet because I have not known how to control what I manifest. Sorry for the babble. Thank for the great videos.

What would you do if you were trying to manifest more energy? I suffer from chronic fatigue and could get so much more achieved if I had more energy. I've tried medications, yoga, meditation, positive thinking, etc and all has helped some but still not nearly at the energy level I want.

+Rebekah N you might want to look at our nutrition or even get a blood test. You might have a vitamin d deficiency, b-12 deficiency, iron deficiency, or even have some sort of insulin resistance (not necessarily diabetes). You also may want to get checked for Lyme disease. And you might consider taking liver enhancing supplements since so many of us (especially women) have dysfunctional livers. Milk thistle, NAC or liv 52 might be able to help you. Good luck.

Great comment. I did not respond because I'm not sure what to do about fatigue but I wish her the best.

I have definitely been through all the doctor stuff. In the winter I had a mild vitamin d deficiency (low side of normal) according to the blood test (all other liver, vitamin b, etc levels were normal) and went on a supplement which did help some. I did get tested for Lyme (negative). I have clinical depression which I manage with medication for the past 9 years and between medication, yoga, and meditation I pretty much have the emotional side under control but the energy is not nearly as consistent as I would like. Some days its pretty good, other days (especially rainy days) I feel like I could sleep all day. I have a very active lifestyle (I own my own business as a horse trainer/instructor) and need a lot of energy and have lots of ways I want to develop my business but energy always seems to limit getting as much done as I want. I haven't looked into the Milk thistle or other supplements you mentioned so I will ask my doctor about that and look into it, although my liver counts on the blood test were normal.

Incubation with high awareness (mindfulness or deep meditation). Not wanting, but knowing that it is a reality in the here and now. If I know that there is a chair in my rooms corner, than the chair in his invisible idealistic form is there in the corner. If my aware attention fades, the chairs "imagination structure" fades too. After enough "mental creation" the chair will "crystalize out". I will find a nice chair for a fair price, or a friend will buy it for my birthday, or somebody will leave one before the house, after he moved out, or...and mostly there is a "normal", not so "magic like" thing happening. Manifestation is reality. (sorry for my english)

my understanding is that LoA starts with your heart and your feelings. The idea is to follow your heart, not your thoughts (ego). The claim is that if you generate a good feeling by focussing on what you appreciate and if you truly feel good about becoming something, then progressive thoughts will follow. As you said, people that start with the thought (I want more money) are not demonstrating a true understanding of LoA; they may get it, but they won't feel any better. It is possible that a lot of people are masking negative behaviors under the veil of LoA, but that is nothing new to human societies. Feelings do not lie. Heart is the non physical language of the spirit.

+Melissa Eaton, you hit the point straight in the head. Feelings, sentiments, emotions, sensations, and previous experiences will actually help one to connect with oneself (one's true self beneath the layers of fake ego) and align with love.
At a point in my life I thought that having more money was going to solve all my problems, then I had so much money, and it did't change how I felt inside, so I gave all that money up and now I am so much more happy with only what I truly need to maintain my body and mind in harmony and health, nothing more.

This is the most brilliant piece on the topic (the topic of self-growth, not the topic of Law of Attraction) I have come across in a very long time. Someone had to point to the elephant in the room. Thank you.

So if I let go of my ego wanting me to eat food to survive hunger after 30 days of fasting and surrender to my soul I will realize I already have the food inside of me symbolically and don't need to eat ? that seems great thank you JP !!

I really like this. The people around me who preach the law of attraction from what they read off the back cover drive me insane. All of their wants are so shallow and self-centered. They miss the points entirely.

Nice Jp! Important issue that needs to be discussed. I've also heard it called my will(egoic force) vs. Thy WILL(creative force). Thy WILL being the true law of attraction in accordance with natural law and the will of creation.
Egoic will generated from the polarity of fear(illusion), seeking external control= internal chaos.
Thy WILL generated from love =self realization and internal order.
