Only works as long as there is pressure on the bottle. If you create a vent hole the water comes out too fast.

Please loosen or open the bottle cap for the water pressure. This little trick would work. Please try :)

It can also work when temperature changes throughout the day are large. As the air in the top heats up (don’t fill all the way), it expands and raises the pressure. I’ve done this in the summer and it works okay.

5/28/23- Now THAT is a clever idea, especially since it frees one up to do other things, even go out of town for a few days and not have to worry about your flowers or green plants or even if vegetables have been planted on a balcony. A drip system is a very good idea AND you can recycle your empty water bottles as well. If the bottles are zip tied down, just cut the bottom around but leave a quarter inch or 1 cm tab so it acts like a flap to slow down water evaporation. Make sure the hole in the lid is tiny or the water will runout to quickly.

It's too fast. At one drop every three seconds this system will dispense about 1.5 liters within one day, way too much for any potted plant of a movable size. Maybe fitting an IV flow regulator might help, have you tried that?

Keep it lower to the ground. Water hitting your plants leaves and stems can create mold, mildew, and other issues for your plants when the sunlight hits them. You want to keep the water low, so that it's not dropping into anything but your soil.

This is just a sample video. You can creatively use varios options. Zip tie is only an option. You can use other types of threads too, such as nylon. Or, you can also drill another bigger hole at the bottom part of the bottle to refill the water so that you don't have to untie every time. Choose your best option.
