    I know this is super late, but one line of the Mibu priest’s dialogue really makes me think. He laments that without more potent dragonspring water, some group is “unfit to be citizens of the palace.” I wondered why he was tricking people into drinking the waters of immortality and turning them into zombies, but I think based on that dialogue it might have been a misguided attempt to turn the people of the village into the type of being that lives in the fountainhead palace so they could ascend. Based on the corrupted monk and the mist noble guarding the paths to Mibu and the divine realm, and the cruelty and trickery we’ve seen from the mist nobles in most of their appearances, I think the mist nobles are trying to bar entrance to the divine realm so they can coerce the people into looking for a different way, and the one we fight as a “boss” mislead the priest so he would have people drink the stagnant waters and degrade. Given the presence of humans in Mibu and the fact that the outcast is holding out in the outskirts in a zombie apocalypse-type scenario, I think these developments are relatively recent.

    Something I would like to point out that I only learned thanks to my foreign studies class. There is a tale of how a carp was reborn as a dragon through swimming up a waterfall, there is even a saying that references this, "yú tiào lóng mén." In Chinese mythology it is believed that the presence of scales on dragons proved that they were once fish who managed to leap the waterfall. Finally my own connection, if you look at all the fish like enemies such as the carp, mist nobles, and great carp, you'll notice they all have prominent whiskers, who else has whiskers like that? The Divine Dragon, this is not really much but I figured I'd throw it out there.

      One of the things I wondered about most when I was binge playing it is why do only a select few attack you when that Mist Noble has that illusion up? I'd say about 90% of the ones you run into during that section are either completely oblivious to your presence or just have no desire to attack you(even when repeatedly bumping into them trying to get them to aggro, I've even killed one of their buddies in front of them and that didn't work either) with the remaining 10% becoming hostile on sight - the only explanation I can come up with is the guys in that certain area either aren't really illusions(more like real spirits being held in place, stuck, by whatever ritual the Noble was performing hence their disappearance upon its death) and the ones that do attack are represented as those you've killed personally which wouldn't just explain why they're attacking but also falls in line with "Vengeful Spirits." I realize the bit about them not being illusions and being an actual manifestation is reaching a little(especially considering every other Spirit we encounter in different area are immediately hostile and how these function a bit differently in their banishing) but that's the best I've come up with so far.

    Good video. And I think you got most of it right.... but you've over looked 2 things. Divine Confetti and Snap Seeds.
    That might seem random but their effects on the game shed some light because they have no overlapping effect. Snap Seeds are used to dispel illusions and can remove any enemy summoned by the mist noble. But it also can stun the Corrupted Monk astral projection; up to three times.
    How ever snap seeds have no effect on any ghost enemy of the game including O'Rin. Divine Confetti on the other hand, besides from giving a small damage boost to all enemies, does major damage to ghosts. But it also does major damage to two very physical bosses of the game. The headless Ape (which includes phase 2 of the guardian ape fight) and there are reports of it doing decent damage to the Demon of Hatred.
    This to me seems to indicate that illusions and astral projections are in one group while ghosts are in a totally separate group. Which makes sense as only one group can actually do terror damage to the player. This might then go on to prove that O'Rin has no real connection to the Mist Nobles. After all she is the only dead person in a village of immortals.

    @docc459 Před 4 lety +16

    I have a theory that could explain what the mibu villagers are doing as well as why the monks in senpo temple died, though they were supposed to be undying.
    The dragon likely moved to japan after being hunted and wounded by the mortal blades, and his blood probably fell in the fountainhead water, giving it its rejuvenating properties, that carried over to the centipedes. Maybe they posses the ability to draw from the water's power and give to others. Anyway the cycle goes dragon > dragon's blood > rejuvenating water > centipede. This power that gives immortality flows that way but isn't infinite.
    My guess is that the only "true" imortality comes from pure dragonblood, and that the rest are just "fake" immortalities. That's why the sempou temple monks died, they are far from the depths of ashina, and the centipedes that invaded them gave them a lot of "life energy" (that they stored from being in the water), and while it seemed like immortality, they were simply harder to kill. As there were no waters that touched the dragons blood in their temple, they just slowly used that energy without replenishing it. I also guess that this is the reason they created the divine children, as they tried to pursue true immortality.
    If this theory is correct, that probably also happened in the fountainhead palace, the water flowed and took the dragon's blood with it, rendering the remaining water stagnant. The game does hint that this is what happened because the noble, those that arrived after the okami, are incredibly weak. That could also be why the woman that kills the nobles complains about being deceived, as she didn't become immortal. I do believe that is what happened because sekiro never has to use his mortal blade to kill the minibosses in this area, though you would expect them to be immortal like the ape and mubi villagers. This could have been what triggered their failed invasion too.
    But if this rejuvenating water eventualy loses it's power, why are the mibus and the ape undying ? My guess, again is that they are just really resilient, and since they're both located at the end of rivers that carry rejuvenating water, this energy accumulated here. The game hints that this is what happens again at the end of the second fight against the ape. He is left on the ground barely moving, this imortality doesn't look like sekiro's at all, i believe it is because the ape and its centipede ran out of life force, and are already dying.
    The game also describes the rejuvenating waters as a substance that "gives flesh great resilience" and NOT immortality.
    If that is the case. The okami may be trying to get back this water filled with the dragons life force that accumulated at mibu village. We know that drinking to much of that waters corrupts and gives cancer like tumors. Since they can't drink it, they make the villagers drink it (using their sake that gives thirst) to produce shelter stones filled with the fountainedhead water's power, and they make them fish for these carp-like slugs, that could also carry some of the lifeforce without being corrupted. That's why we see several of these stones and fishes in the wedding room that leads to the palace. Because if they were just afraid of the ashina coming to attack them, they would just make sure no one can obtain the ingredients of the incent, and not produce shelter stones at all.

    HEY VAATVIDYA I HOPE YOU SEE THIS, I found some interesting information on the black mortal blade. After you return from the fountainhead palace after killing the dragon, a new chest will appear in the tower that Isshin usually sits in. Inside the chest is information on the blade. The black mortal blade's real name is "Open Gate".
    It said that the blade has the ability to open a gateway to the underworld. My theory is that Isshin the sword saint is the shura version of Isshin Ashina. It says that Shura is when a person starts killing for the simple purpose of killing. Isshin was desperate to become the best warrior in the land, he undoubtedly killed a lot of people in that process. Isshin slowly started to become Shura, then he fought with Lady Tomea who snapped him out of the madness by cutting his eye.
    This explains how Isshin knew how to save the sculptor without killing him. The sculptor says that Isshin cut off his arm "for his sake"
    Plus the two Isshins we fight in the game are very different. The Isshin we fight during the Shura ending of the game tries to kill us because he is trying to protect Ashina from the threat of Shura. The Isshin we fight during the other endings seems to be attacking us for the simple pleasure of killing us.

    • @Ajcav763
      @Ajcav763 Před 4 lety +17

      It seems more likely that when using the "Open Gate" that the user can bring someone back to life and they must fulfill their wish, because Isshin says something along the lines of "Pitiful Grandson, this was your final wish. To see Ashina returned from the great beyond". It would make sense that either the returned must obey the final wishes of the one who brought them back, or that Isshin sees it fit to try to fulfill those wishes, seeing that Ashina is on the brink of despair as the Ministry invaded. However it seems that he must do what his Grandson wishes because when he knows he is defeated as the Sword Saint, he kneels down and faces death the respectable way, allowing Sekiro to execute him in a traditional stance. However in the Shura ending, he dies instantly not allowing an unjust man as Sekiro kill him in a respectable way. He also says something like "Sekiro, it was not meant to be." which seems to point that he knew there was a different and possibly better way things could have gone in a fight between them (Any of the other endings).

    I don’t know how supported this theory is, but a small part of me thinks that Usui Forest (where Owl and Butterfly are from) is the Hidden Forest of the Ashina Depths. I know there isn’t much evidence again, but Usui Forest is described as a “forest filled with mists and mystifications,” or illusions, which the Forest near Mibu is abundant of. The other thing though is that Butterfly’s Illusions take the form of villagers, who while ordinary humans wield the same weapons and tools as the undead villagers of Mibu.
    Keep in mind the undeath of Mibu is very recent. This is made clear by Basket Wearer Shosuke, who is a normal person and explains that the villagers only recently turned undead from the Priest giving them Sake to drink from the water surrounding the village.
    The only hiccup is that Usui Forest is described as being “far to the North of Ashina,” And it doesn’t appear as such on the ancient map, but the map doesn’t necessarily seem as being drawn with North a up, instead being drawn to best keep Ashina Castle at its center, and the Outskirts flowing from it on the bottom of the image. If there is Japanese on the map that indicates it being North oriented, then I’m mistaken, but the fact Mibu Village appears to the side and down might not contradict this description.

    The first time I read the description of the jizu statue, it came to my mind O’Rin wasn’t interested in Sakuza per sè but rather about something else. Statues were told to be protect children and being sign of parental love. So my first guess was Jinzaemon might a son or descendent to O’Rin who crazily looked for her dear Lord to have any notice of their child. And that’s why Jinzaemon was so attracted by her shimasen and felt so tired, as if it was a lullaby that stucked in his head , while Rin was sadly longing for her child. And that’s how you obtained a symbol for parental love instead of romantic or either why she had written so many letters. If she’s an okami descendants she and her Sakuza might have been torn apart after the end of the war, with their shared son in ashina. She tried to keep in touch desperately, but failing and considered all those who didn’t know Sakuza liars. Maybe he was famous. If jinza is lured to doujin he’s a valid opponent after all

    Something the souls games do very well is the world and I recommend any story tellers out there attempt to do this with their stories as well.
    No world you build should only be interesting because it's falling apart, you should, and the souls game accomplish this with flying colors, make your readers or what have you, curse the fact that they only got to see it's fall. Make them wish that they could have seen it before bits and pieces were lost to rubble and fire.
    I have a feeling, as a world builder myself, that when you create something like this, you create it all, you don't leave blank spots in your world and say they were once there until the "bad times". You lay it out entirely. Then you masterfully tear chunks of it away, chunks that would have been loved, that would have made certain things more clear, you do this so the tragedy can be felt. It's not just a hole that exists because a hole must exist, it was something of importance that will now never exist because of the horrible actions of that worlds people.
    The impact of it's absence is so much greater that way.
    I haven't slept for a few days so maybe I didn't clearly get my thought out but eh. Maybe one of you will get what I mean.

    The Great Carp and Fountainhead Palace give off a lot of Dragon's Gate vibes to me. It's a myth about a magical gate at the top of a waterfall that transforms any koi (or carp) into dragons when they leap through it. The Dragon's Gate myth is Chinese in origin, but the Sakura Dragon is said to come from the West. China is west of Japan, so it doesn't seem so far fetched that the Great Carp aspires to swim upstream to the top of the divine realm in hopes of becoming a dragon. It also explains why the two pot merchants are so hell bent on becoming carp.

    I thought the guy said "Shabooby" at the very start of the vid. Half awake, my misunderstandings amuse me.

    Jinzaemon wears purple. The only purple garments are from Interior Ministries units. Hes obviously a foreigner to Ashina and he wears a shinobi headband. His name is also scarily similar to Owl's name (Ukonzaemon) who seems to always have purple shinobi in his wake. There's even a ministry shinobi in the Hirata Estate where Owl first enacts his plan to betray Sekiro and steal the Dragon's Heritage. My guess is he came with the ninja thats looking for you, but the Shimisen player distracted him instead.

      There might be some truth to this. I actually didn't talk to this guy until after beating O'Rin, I went back to the reservoir area, and after talking to him, he actually attacked me

    Out of curiosity, is there any reason Jinzaemon and Lord Sakuza couldn't be the same person?

      Some people say jinza might be ghost ladys son because of the symbolism of the buda statue being for children

    Love these lore vids. I have been watching from since before I got the game. One thing is a bit distracting though, the whistling, example: 6:28. That one was the sharpest.
