  • Population growth and lack of alternative energy sources have put pressure on the environment. As more people are depending on fuel wood for energy.
The wanton cutting down of trees contributes to climate change as much as it also forces women to go further away from house hold to look for fuel wood.
Estere Harrison a member of a DAPP farmers club says that she chose to adopt the fuel saving stoves at her household because she was going to save a lot of firewood and time spent looking for fuel wood.
“As much as the fuels saving stoves help us save and protect the environment due to the fact that we use less firewood we also have time to do other development activities. Most of us spend less time looking for firewood,” says Harrison
According to Harrison the design of the fuel saving stoves have reduced the risks of accidents associated with fire.
“The risks of having children burning are reduced because the fireplace is shielded with clay. The design of the stove also protects our utensils from damage” She said
The women in the farmers clubs have also been empowered with agroforestry skills. They have nurseries and woodlots. The trees will be providing the communities with fuel wood and others fix nitrogen among others.
