- Nelson Sullivan loved wandering around New York late at night, and Miss Margie did too. In this video, Miss Margie takes Nelson to her favorite late night dives, and they end up having a snack at the all-night restaurant Nightbirds where their waiter was the nightclub promoter Eric Conrad, who evidently had not become friends with Nelson yet. I came of age in the 1980s and these videos are amazing...a true slice of life from these days long gone. How amazing that Nelson had the vision to capture all of this, long before the internet...Amazing!
+spiritchannel there was still internet in the 80s but only governments and universities used it.
i wish life was still like this. i miss the 80s so much.
I know, me too
You are lovely.
Me as well. City was never the same after 9/11😢
People just don't interact with each other like this any more, covid didn't help
YES YES YES I FEEL the same
The Smiths playing in the background. God I miss the 80s.
I know right?
The best music ever!
Good times!
We didn't know how good we had it back then.
NYC was loaded with crack, HIV, violence and hyper capitalism. Terrible politics and escalating crime. Imprisonment for years for pot but the encouragement to smoke cancer tobacco. FK the 80s'.
@@oatmilk1741 lmao this is completely on point I always say this to people who say I “miss the 80s” like you miss looking over your shoulder every 5 minutes and not being able to walk out late at night
Miss Margie comes off as such a genuinely nice person. I especially enjoy the videos featuring her 😊
Not a true New Yorker. Fahgettaboudit! 😆 she needs to pick peaches where she came from. Her fake act is cringy AF! New Yorkers are real. Southern hospitality will get you rolled on.
I'm willing to bet that all the people that didn't really like being filmed all the time, are very happy he did now. I know I would be greatful. Talk about bringing bk memories...
I love this cab driver what a beautiful smile!
Perfect shot of her hand going over the list of music in the jukebox.
Loved that too.
Margie’s got a beautiful personality, I love how she’s genuinely warm toward anyone on here and it’s not because Nelson has a camera. It must be a southern thing.
Margie just contacted me, she's doing well! I'm so happy for her!
Are you friends with her? Were you friends with Nelson? Do you appear in any of the videos? Margie is definitely a beautiful woman Inside and Out
I wish this video was a couple of hours long
The smile on the cab drivers face!❤️
That's a rarity now a days!
Miss Margie seems like a wonderful person. I love the interaction the gang had with Josef on the street.
At one point a song comes on at the bar in the background. It was called shes a big teaser by the beatles. It aired only 19 years before this video was made. Its now 56 years old. Just for a time reference to how awesome this is.
It's called 'Day Tripper'... but otherwise yeah! Old then and even older now.
@@friendlier you are absolutely correct. I was half asleep when i wrote that. Beatles are awesome.
How could you not fall in love with this woman?
Thanks for uploading. I love all of these videos.
How bloody awesome hearing the psychedelic Furs playing in the background. ❤️❤️❤️
Best music back in those days..
the celestial synchronicities Nelson captures are so beautiful and timeless! @1:18 homie driving the cab is talking about the big apple then right after @1:22 Nelson films a pyramid stack of giant green apples. Manifesting in the love frequency
I knew Margie and Kennon from Carambas where I bartended . She was a wildflower and I crushed on her. Above all the edge and antics, she was a wholehearted person. Love your posts.
how cool. What was carambas? A restaurant/bar in nyc? Still there today? Where was it located. NYC history buff here.
Wow the politeness and kindness of both the riders, and taxi man smh smh smh. Back in those days, was all respect! Now adays drunk riders and taxi or ubber drivers, are fighting and arguing. Btw in 1985 i was a year old, little guy
Guys toward the end sporting the Billy Idol look, what a blast from the past.
The music in the background, the mix of people, the way Eric is their server not yet aware that he’d become good friends with Nelson…..amazing to have a window into such a fun and special night
I love Ms Margie and Nelson so much ♥️. Such a great duo.
Notice how that camera reacted to bright lights. That is because the old video cameras did not have solid state image sensors. They used tubes instead for the image sensors for those video cameras of the past. The solid state image sensors started to replace these old sensors in the mid 80's. My first video camera was an RCA CPR250 VHS camcorder. Paid $1000 for it. And that cam had a solid state image sensor. I posted a ton of old videos from this cam on my youtube!
I've seen your videos. Liked them.
I love you Gilbert
Just subbed to your channel...gonna check them out...thanks.
I’ve seen soo many of these videos and can’t get over how empty the streets are in New York!
It's the middle of the night and down neighborhood streets. I don't know what you expected?
There had been an exit to the suburbs and the population of NYC was significantly less than it is now.
No watsapp, insta, or any other crap.. Not even CZcams.. Still they had greater fun than wat we are having.. I envy them.. But happy as well
boy have times changed especially cab fares in NYC LOL!
I'm either going or doing,or not! we all lived by that code! Great times in the 80's!
David Bustamante so you’re either going somewhere, doing something, or you’re not? Sick code.
Tainted Love and How Soon Is Now? I wish they played bops like that now and days
Oh and psychedelic furs!
@@irenejanith2371 to be fair i hear some of these when i go to the grocery store today lol
adam tarver yeah I get a little too excited when I hear The Cure in Whole Foods
@@irenejanith2371 i swim a lot and most of my mp3 player for the pool consists of rare 80s nostalgia. I spend a good 6 hours a week with it lol

I'am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does.🎶
I love that The Smith's are playing in the background.
I'm so grateful for all of these videos 🙂 getting me through a tough time
"One Night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster. The bars are temples, but the pearls ain't free . . ."
Miss Margie is such Beautiful Person!!
01:23 Forever & Ever Dearest Nelson, you were way way ahead inn this world, and you gave us the key to your room. Priceless!
All ways a small small world, aint it. xoxo
13:20 Stop the Press
The Psychedelic Furs. The Ghost in You. Wow. If I could go back for one day!
Bitch, caught your comment against Albert Crudo fighting pollution, nothing worse than a two faced poster
fucking love these times !
Great footage. Thank you for uploading
This was FANTASTIC!
I loved this video, this is a good one
wonderful and nostalgic
You know if Nelson were still with us today ( December 25 2022) he would still give us excitement.Cause now the city is SO BORING nothing like New York was then!!!!!! Merry Christmas to all. NELSON we miss YOU
Haha that period when 'Tainted Love' played everywhere you went.
Love this video
Wait, Erich Conrad was the waiter at Nightbirds? When I lived there in the late 90s he was running one of the biggest nights downtown, called Beige. At B Bar on the Bowery from 1994 to 2011.
i want to hang out with Miss Margie!
I want to go back
The taxi driver is sooooo cool...
damn, I was almost a week old when Nelson filmed this
han hanzo I was born 2 months later lol
I wish there were girls like Margie in this day and age. She is a catch. Is she still around?
she's a realtor now
Living back in Atlanta.
Wow
@@Desibeatnik what’s her last name?
Nelson best you tuber then anybody now period
I want to buy some real estate in Atlanta just so I can meet Margie
She's also an actor:czcams.com/video/S9YnctECnIg/video.html&ab_channel=ruthlessfilms
Margie was so wonderful and the great thing is she is a successful real estate agent in Atlanta today.....I love that the more I investigate "where are they now" very few are dead....contrary to rumors not all gay people died who were around in the 80's and 90's.....these young queens didn't invent gay. Drag was around long before RuPaul. Long before "triggers" and "sis"......Silly sissies today
Miss Margie reminds me of the pictures of the Black Dahlia.
Omg those 2 punk guys were gorgeous! 😍
Was she really going to only tip the cab driver 50 cents at first? Glad she rethought that!
Are the lights around 4 mins blurring on purpose? either way its excellent for the vibe
2.02 that car freshener has been sold globally, even in Greece
Nowadays you can’t go into any establishment with that kind of music playing. So I have to play it on my phone and listen through my AirPods cause I can’t with today’s music.
In Portugal, specially in Lisbon, old town, easily you can go to any bar / café and listen those music's. And the atmosphere is very much like what it's portrait at Nelson's videos. I hope the "new leftism" never arrive and destroy Portugal.
It's so weird to see the East Village this dead at night. Unless its 3 am.
It was 3am
It was 2:55 a.m. on the clock above the Jukebox
🚕📻 "with you I'm born again" 🎶🎵
NYC looks so cool in the 80s. I'm from the UK, I wonder if it was a similar scene over here?
London was happening in the 80s
you had a lot of scenes in NYC during the 80s.. This was just one facet
It looks like a movie with the music and everything. Cities looked so much more aesthetic back then. Today's cars are ugly af. Most iconic time in history!
Better than today but not as cool as the 70's.....just glad I was young in those decades instead of now
Beautiful lady. What a total babe.
Does anyone know who the mystery punk guys were? Were they in a band or just on holiday?
If I could come back I'd be Margie or Rhonda
Nelly always has the coffee 😊
I'm unsure of josephs intentions...
Lmao 🤣
Right?!?!
Soft Cell-Tainted Love....yep it was the 80s...
i still hate that song lol
13:45. Time traveler slip up
(near the end)...Is that Leigh Bowery who took Nelson's order for a cheese plate?
Good Karm no it's Eric Conrad, who was in his later pictures. But that would have been fabulous it it was.
Am I the only one who thinks Miss Margie sounds like actress Andie McDowell?
Joseph was trying reaaaaal hard to get some there...
2.50 cab ride in New York she gives him a 10 and asks for 7 back...wow
What's wrong with her?! She should have just gave him the whole $10. What a cheapskate!
If you take cabs all the time over and over again its gets to be quite an expense. It's different if you're from out of town and dont use taxis very often. Then you should certainly have no problem giving a large tip. But every single time you take a taxi multiple times a day you aren't going to be tipping much. Just evening out. She could have real awful and asked for 7.50 back! I've heard of people doing shit like that and they should be kicked in the teeth. Also, miss Margie was young and starting out and living in expensive NYC back then. She probably didnt have anywhere near the money she has now.
50 cents was the correct tip then. It was the equivalent of $1.38 today in 2022
Almost 33 years ago
crazy me 😱
34 now.... Crazy to think about it.
@@ZnenTitanmake it 38 years ago man time needs to stop going forward and just go backwards for once
There was no motive to film stuff like this because you couldn't post it anywhere and cameras were large and expensive
Dangerman5 Which makes it amazing that he continued doing it for years. Now a days we are so used to instant gratification so it’s hard to imagine him being so dedicated!
Which makes it all the more valuable as a record of the times.
Film was also expensive
The Smith's - how soon is now? From 11:09 ... Ha. :)...
Is that Eric the waiter weren’t they friends?
I need to go back to the South to find a woman.
LoL I bet even if you were somewhere like Montana or one of the Dakota's and if you took a cab two blocks, it would cost $2.50 just to turn the machine on
12:31 Rick James lol
🃏makes an appearance.
14:13. Time traveler wisdom exposed
Explain.
Everyone kind of has this like affected drawl accent. Like they're almost somehow narrating their own life story instead of just living. I mean they know they're on camera, but, I don't know, they just seem more self-aware and like they were building a life story every minute of every day rather than what you get nowadays of people just forcing around and being on their phone. I don't know.
9:10. Time traveler slip up.....
what do you think?
6:17 B 4 Emoji's were on yo phone they was on the wallz
Miss Margie, seeing through the bullshit!
The Smiths epitomized the 80s....
Tupac bighie alpo rich az easy e Pablo Escobar and so many infamous and notorious people where roaming the world at this time. Shit is crazy
we didn't look at people as much like that.. The super fan was considered weirdos back in the day
@@VolkXue still are 😂
Wow she’s a cheap tipper 😆.
