And BSL should be taught as standard in all schools and educational settings. It is was more important than stuff like French or German. Disability is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. And in your day to day life you are far more likely to encounter a person who is deaf or hard of hearing more than you are likely to encounter a French person or a German person. I regret never learning BSL. I have worked in hospitality for the last 4 years and have encountered deaf and hard of hearing people and this was during the time of Covid when we had to wear masks and not knowing BSL made life way harder for all involved. for me as a staff member and for the customer.

Aled is deaf. The whole family know British Sign Language to help him communicate. British Sign Language should be taught in schools and educational settings. It's not "Entitlement" it's basic human rights. disability is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 meaning that the teach is in the wrong to stop Joseph using sign language and preventing the possible future where Aled would not be able to communicate. Was Joseph signing to a deaf/hard of hearing child? if not then there was no need for him to be signing. From the sound of it Joseph signing during class.
