Your time and background in Thailand served you well in appreciating their Buddhist religion. The knowledge you impart through this vlog are eyeopeners esp to most non-Chinese Filipinos. And it shames us too that we do not even know of these cultural treasures hiding in plain sight. Great job Mergim the traveller. You have a knack for storytelling.

In Taiwan, we also have very beautiful Buddhist temples. This temple in Binondo is also very beautiful. I didn't know Philippines can have such a beautiful temple. There is so much marble .... we usually do not use marbIe so much in Taiwanese temples. Anyway, I hope it can be maintained well. Thank you Chairman, for showing us another side of Manila that most people don't know about.

IT WAS VERY DIFFERENT IN MY "CHURCH" EXPERIENCE GROWING UP & IT WAS AWESOME! I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS THIS TEMPLE IN ITS FORMER STATE OR ELSEWHERE, BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY AN AWESOME PLACE! YOUR POST GAVE ME THE CHILLS, I FEEL SO HAPPY! YES, PHILIPPINES HAS HAD CHINESE INFLUENCE & CHINESE BLOOD IS IN THE FILIPINO BLOODLINE, MY OWN MOTHER SAID HER FAMILY HAS CHINESE BLOOD. OF COURSE THINNED OUT THROUGH THE GENERATION BUT SHE SAID IT WAS KNOWN FACT IN HER FAMILY, FROM HER ANCESTORS & BLOODLINE. AH! IN THE LATE 70s MY FAMILY WOULD GO TO BINONDO A LOT, WHEN AM ON VACATION HERE IN MANILA. AH! I APRECIATE THIS A LOT. THANK YOU MERGHIM. I FELT THE GOOD VIBES. AGAIN, THANK YOU. I HOPE SOMEDAY TO VISIT THIS TEMPLE YOU FEATURED.

Another interesting temple to visit in Manila is the Jin Luan (Kim Luan) Temple in Adriatico Street, Malate. It is a Daoist Temple and sometimes they would do readings of the I Ching (Yi Jing). There is a "fortune teller" or divination practitioner/oracle who goes into a sort of trance, during which you can query him about your life issues, problems and ask advice regarding your "future" through an interpreter. He will write the answer on a table of sand in characters which the interpreter will explain them for you. But I don't know if they still do this there nowadays, or if the resident oracle is still there. Anyway, check it out if you have the time.

i love buddha. as a kid, i used to frequent Booksale (its a used bookstore; i think thats the name of the branch) and i purchased a book on Buddhism. The day that i read on the teachings of main man Siddhartha (teaching ideas like acceptance and letting go etc. etc. mind blowing stuff) was the same day i lost my brand new phone, snatched inside the bus. Thats when i had to practice what i learned. Also, i lost a book called SIDDHARTHA by Herman Hesse in the mens bathroom once and never finished it. then decades later a friend gifted me the same book only to lose it again left it in the train. i did finish the story and it was great! blew my mind. anyway happy friday. sharing is caring i guess. haha

Thanks for this blog.. This is typical Chinese school of Buddhism image. Most Chinese Buddhist follows Pure Land and Chan(Zen) or mixture of both. Those images are Bodhisattvas images and Buddhas of the past and the center is Gautama Buddha who gave birth to Buddhism in this world. There are many Buddhist schools in China which influenced Japanese Buddhism one of which is Nichiren Buddhism which I followed and born in this religion when my Mama was converted from Catholic. The center of devotion in Nichiren Buddhism is the Law, the Buddha's truth, not the image of Buddhas or Bodhisattvas which is in the character and words of NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO that we chanted and meditated practice daily in front of the Gohonzon, a mandala. If Chinese Buddhism depicted buddha's and Bodhisattvas through images or statues, in Nichiren Buddhism it is deeply depicted in Classical Chinese words or characters in ONE scroll paper. Nichiren used characters instead of images because the truth behind the spiritual qualities of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas image cannot be contained totally in an image or statue that is written in mandala, Gohonzon.. 🙏🙏
