- Getting to explore Haida Gwaii this summer has been an absolute treat, but it is nice to be back on the mainland and exploring some of the places I have missed. I have spent a fair bit of time around lucy island trying to catch salmon, but I had never had the opportunity to go on shore for a closer look. The trip out to Lucy Island is beautiful, but it does involve s brief crossing on the open ocean, so be sure to plan your trip accordingly. This was a perfectly calm day on the ocean, but unfortunately I did encounter some issues trying to pull the boat up on the beach.
I have looked back at the footage, and I have tried to figure out what exactly went wrong, but I think this is just one of those situations that happens from time to time. When I nosed the boat up onto the sand, I did it the same as I have hundreds of times before, but this time there seemed to be a series of unexpected large waves right behind me. Before the first wave came, it pulled all the water out from under the boat, and the beach was dry for about 15 feet behind me. This was the first clue that something odd was happening. Before I could get out and adjust the boat, the waves started crashing onto the beach and into the boat. I am fortunate that the Swellfish is such a stable boat, because it took about four minutes of thrashing around in the waves to get the boat back out to a safe place. A bit of camera gear was wrecked, but all in all for a bad situation it went very well.
Though I was happy to make my way back to lucy island, this was not my first spell of bad luck there. In fact, the "fishing enigma" of Destination Adventure started at Lucy Island two years ago. I tried for a whole week to catch a salmon here, where every other boat was getting a limit every day, but I never was able to catch a salmon. All day long I would troll around the island, but never a bite. Though my luck didn't turn around at Lucy, I was able to finally cross my salmon off the list this year. I thought for sure I would be able to catch my salmon on Haida Gwaii, I was happy it happened at China Bar. With the Motorhome, I always had to drive past this spot and envy the folks camping on the bar, but with the new rig it was a piece of cake. Camping right on the bar by the skeena river was awesome, and to finish my stay with the success of a catch was just the success I needed after my disaster at Lucy Island.

Thanks for using my song! What a beautiful video; and the honor is mine! hope this is the first of our many collabs!
It is not our first actually, you have been on the channel a couple of times now. I have enjoyed editing to them very much, thank you for the beautiful music.
ahh thats wonderful to hear; i appreciate the support; much more music to come!
@@nathancolbergmusicI sourced you from Musicbed, so please continue to offer licensing there and I will continue to check for new songs. Bourbon Melody and Calm are a couple of my favourite to edit to.
After watching this episode you have proved to be a world class catcherman!! What an awesome salmon that last catch was!! Also, can I say, you have world class drone footage!!🤩🤩🤩 We love watching your adventures here in New South Wales, Australia. 😍😍😍
I was going to comment “nice music choices in this viddy” and then I read this. Awesome.
I say it every time, but the videography keeps getting better. It seems like a whole crew of pro trained producers/cameramen etc work on this. You have a talent Dustin.
It would b nice if he stops it with the music, has nothing to do with the video & his choices r so missmatched to the tone of the video.
Dustin's work is top-notch I agree his videography is so good
I really appreciate that, thank you. 😊
@@mikekish5490 I think the music is always perfect for what hes showing... I guess if it's not your type of music you won't like it... you can always mute it 😂
@@mikekish5490everyone has their own opinions. Personally I enjoy the music choices & they are appropriately placed and spaced around the sounds of nature, motors etc…
Nothing better than waking up on a Saturday morning, having a coffee and watching Destination Adventure!
I look forward to it every week, as well.
❤Agree!!
Hard agree!!
And listening to his horrible music choices that make such a nice video suck so bad.
Thank you😊
Love, love, love the drone shots with your music choices! So beautiful 😍
Thank you.
Congratulations on your salmon catch! I simply can not express how much joy your videos give me. Dustin, your videos are breathtaking, and the drone shots are just beautiful. Thank you from a senior who has always wanted to travel to such places but was never able to go to. You take me places I could only imagine were there. Your videos are much better than what I have imagined. Stay safe. God's blessings on your travels from Proctor Minnesota!
I feel your pain buddy! It took me 38 YEARS to catch my first fish. Sounds crazy but as a kid no one wanted to take this girl out fishing. Then as a mom I decided to do all the cool things with my kids, BUT that meant I was untangling lines and parenting, not fishing myself. Finally…FINALLY the day came when I caught a northern pike! Big knarley toothy pike. It was satisfying
I really enjoy pike fishing.
I love it; “it couldn’t survive a Dustin attack” So awesome, thank you for showing us how life should be lived
Ahhh home. Good old rainy Rupert. You have to check out Metlakatla one day. They have a suspended walkway forest tour. Glad you didn't get stuck out on Lucy. Just so you know for next time, There are boardwalks from that beach to the light-house. You were in the first section of Salt Lakes. In the last pool, if you head over to the right, there is a stream that goes up to the actual Salt Lakes. It was a recreation area back in the 50's. Next time, try camping at Rainbow Lake. There is a boat launch there. Polymar is the "spot" in the summertime. The reason those mountains are so round, is from being under the glaciers back in the day. You can actually see in some of your shots, how the ice scratched the rock. Another spot down the road is just under the Kasiks river bridge. That's my honey hole. The 'ho's" also like pink jigs. The Skeena river is epic. It is the lifeblood for the North. We fight to keep that River pristine.
Glad Catcher-man is alive and well.
Good job D.
Safe travels.... cheers :)
* Dustin I felt compelled to add a second comment to this vid. I watch your stuff on my big 75" 4k. It's truly breath taking. Your camera angles, editing, audio are as good (and better sometimes) as second unit stuff from multi million dollar films. Thankyou so much for all the effort you go to. The wife and I look forward to your installments more then any other yt channels ! Cheers Man ! 🍻👊😎👍🍻
This is a great comment to read, thank you. There’s some stuff coming that is gonna look great on that tv ;) always happy to hear about folks watching on a larger screen than a phone. Lol
Thank you Dustin. For allowing us to escape from the world events for 25 minutes. Keep it up.
I am happy to be able to. Lot's of sadness around the world, it's awfully nice to be able to share a smile.
So stoked you got a salmon at last Dustin, you really brighten up so many of our lives with your positive attitude & corny humour .
I really appreciate that, thank you.

Wow how beautiful I’m sad that your leavening that place but from one journey that ends the next starts I’m excited for what’s next keep this up your awesome showing us Thea’s places some of us will never know about without you. Thank you. 🙏 ❤😊
The BC in you never gets old... Watched many youtubers, but none capture BC as you do. Our province is massive, the sites, places and people prove it priceless.
It's official the world's best catching channel
Hahaha awesome.
A man with his fish, and the look on his face....Unforgettable! Thanks for the tour of Hida Gwaii. You make my Saturday coffee time great. As always "Watching from afar"!
It blows my mind that one person is getting all these shots. FANTASTIC! Good gracious you're handy.
SO AWESOME of that other random dude to wander over and help you land it with local knowledge. HECK YES!!
I’ve said before, I absolutely love this channel. Watching an episode calms me before work , and now I’m shopping your merch store. Giving my wife ideas for my birthday.
Awesome, thank you so much.
As always I love the shows. Thanks for the entertainment. I have spent 30 plut years in the helicopter industry and have worked all over western Canada in many places you venture into. It is great to revisit some of the places I have been and get a different perspective. In the early to mid 90s I worked heli logging up in Haida Gwaii. There were some amazing ventures for us up there in those days. Thanks for the refresher of the Beauty of that area.
I spent a couple weeks there as a kid in the late 80s. Family friends were lightkeepers.
Watch out for the rhinoceros auklets: they land by crashing into trees and falling towards their nests. They have injured people by flying into them!
So glad you had a great time on Haida Gwaii and we all enjoyed it with you, especially those of us who can't do what you do, so we just watch from out easy chairs.
Living vicariously through you to see the beauty of the world, so many of your fans don't have the chance or the energy to take on the adventures like you, so thank you for showing it to us! You make it even more beautiful with your stunning cinematography! Your music choices are also top notch!
Thank you😊
Congratulations on the salmon Dustin. My wife and I look forward to your videos every week. Your videography and production keep getting better and better.
Coho for the Moho, couldn't have been better! Now we need the Moho Coho Cooking Show.
You made me feel like I was was right there. I saw your saying at 792 foot cascading waterfall here in the United States in Georgia and I thought about you. Thanks for being that type of influence!!!
Nice work on this one man. Those J and L cuts.... the SFX. Seamless editing. Wanna give you props on the hours and hours of work no one "sees" it's what makes your stuff stand out. Keep her right side up!
Thank you very much. 😊
Seamless to perfection. It makes the videos mesmerizing and peaceful
Your video work and editing keeps getting better, amazing episode!
I laughed out loud at, “I’m a world class fisherman, just not great as a catcherman!” Great video Dustin!
Stoked that one landed :)
Crabs and Salmon what a great meal. Congrats on that beautiful salmon. Love your channel, from Northwest Mississippi.
I could never say how grateful I am for what you bring to me, to all of us, all this beauty and capture it and put it together into something wonderous.
That is very nice, thank you.
By far the best channel on CZcams! The beautiful scenery, positive vibes and your quirky sense of humor make this a must watch every week Dustin. ✌️ and ❤ brother. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much, I appreciate that.
Oh man, when you washed up on Lucy island and we’re getting slammed by the waves. The wife and I looked at each other and burst out laughing…. Not that it wasn’t a dangerous situation, but we found ourselves in the same situation in the same spot with a similar boat about 15 years ago. Glad you made it out safely, hope you take away a lesson from that. I know I sure did when it happened to us. Love your vids, keep them coming.
❤ Congrats on catching a beautiful Salmon!! We were cheering for you 😂
Many times I complimented your ability to capture the beauty of the lands you travel and your editing skills, but never mentioned how much I like your soundtrack selection - it always fits the images like a glove instead of feeling like an artificial layer that might as well not be there. ❤
Dustin for the win! Often the catch that takes the most time is the best catch.
I would like to thank you, I live my life vicariously through your adventures
A wonderful closing video with local voices summary of Haida Gwaii. Very well done. I will admit, the selection of music enhanced my bond with HG. Makes me yearn for more. Yay on the salmon catch!
I can't believe it!! It WAS you!! I was driving back from a weekend in Prince Rupert and as I was passing Polymar, I glanced over and saw what looked like the adventure rig. I doubted myself but should have listened to my gut instinct and drove down to say hi! Argh! HAHA! Nice coho Dustin! And one day I really do hope to run into you adventuring. As always, thanks for another great video!
L❤VE you mentioning all the locals coming together when you hooked your salmon. such a cool experience
D.A... This place takes my breath away. If I could I'd move there yesterday. Thankyou
I have been away to warmer climates on vacay, however thanks again for reminding me how blessed we are to live in this province. My wife’s family is from the north and I have been fortunate to see some of our mighty rivers such as the Stikine and Skeena. I am always amazed of how beautiful it is, so thanks for sharing your adventures. Looking forward to maybe my own northern adventure next summer! Your treks are inspiring!
an old guy once told me "you will not understand the meaning of the word "fishing" until you can fish without a hook on your line and enjoy it".....take care, and Great Video man Thanks.....OnWard.......
This video should win some kind of cool award at a cool film festival!
Makes me so happy & sad at the same time. Im vicariously living through your adventures. Something i used to do in my younger days. Keep up the good work Dustin !!!!
Thank you for enjoying.
I came for the adventure, I stayed due to the person, and I come back for the sweet sweet sound of that 12v cold start
Keep it up! ......nice fish!
The Adventure is You!
Don’t stop sharing!
Thank goodness for Destination Adventure 🎉
Love this video, Dustin. So happy you always include First Nation Elders when applicable. So much wisdom in their words. Stunning scenery all around!
I echo what many others have said all of your content is exquisitely crafted, all of your many hours of work is greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking us all to places that we will probably would never have visited.
Ha, finally. Whats for dinner Dustin? Lovely video. Breathtakingly beautiful.
Great catch, Dustin! Take a picture with that beauty for posterity! 👏🏽🥂🎣
Well, my 1st view of this channel, and WOW what a finale - the scenery! / drone skill, the music!, and the Humble Host.
Welcome to the channel.
Your rough days sure come across as a win on video bud!! Thank you!!!
Once again Mother Nature gifting you a well deserved reward for your hard work in gifting so many viewers a chance to see what you love and respect 💕🌈💗
Well done and congratulations……..and as always thank you for taking me with you. See you next Saturday…..🤓
Excellent cinematography this episode. That boat graveyard was interesting. And hey congratulations on catching your salmon 🤘🏻

Thank you 😊
Your exploring interviews and video work is so captivating..some of the greatest content on here . Always a pleasure to watch. happy Thanksgiving 🌞 Nice fish ❤
Thank you
Congratulations on the salmon Dustin. I’ve never understood the appeal. Growing up in Alberta, every time somebody forced me to eat canned salmon, I couldn’t stand it, and I’d puke after. You can have mine…
Good to see you didn’t damage your motor or boat (or person). Thanks for sharing again.
MR. D, my family and i think you could catch anything anytime!! WE love your videos, they are epic!!
I can definitely try. Lol thank you 😊
Congrats on the catch! But I love your optimism and humor, never loose that. Thanks for always producing great content.
Thank you.
It's always a nice treat to see you posted a video. Your humor puts a smile on my face, and your cinematography skills are superb.
Finally... fresh fish in the freezer... hope it is not the last. Geeze, I wish I were a young man again, I'd pay to travel with you, such... awesomeness all around you, safe travels, Dustin.
Thanks, when you look back like that you get the full impact as to how wonderful this place
Is, I like how it has a Native Name 👍
I have to say after watching a lot of your videos. I really love your truck build now in your later videos. You have really expertly married your truck to your camper. I also really enjoy your video presentation and commentary.
My absolute favourite channel! Never disappoints, Thank you!
I appreciate that, thank you.
I have been watching your channel for a couple of years now and your video choreography is fantastic. Some of the best drone shots I have ever seen. Keep doing what you are doing. Say hey to Mick for me!
I appreciate that, thank you. And I will 😊
Thanks Dustan what a Catch!! Happy for you, and what an adventure. Thanks for taking us along.
Love it - and great catch. One thing that seems pretty consistent with Rupert-ites, they love fishing and are pretty happy to share the love!
Great work and we were so excited you got those crabs and the salmon!! Looking forward to the next episode.
The clouds wafting thru the pines. Amazing.
Just amazing drone and feet's on the ground around the trees, Haida Gwaii I can tell, has your heart because you caught the essence of the Hadra Gwaii, and it truly shows. Thanks so much for sharing the ride!
Congratulations, Dustin, on your Salmon catch. Perseverance pays. Good eating. ❤
Happy for you, the Dustin attack prevailed! Love to start our Saturdays with DA. Thanks for all you do and share.

One of the best adventure channels!
Once again, thanks for bringing us along and sharing your adventures. Just came back from my own month long travels of our east coast and hav to say, you’ve inspired me to keep exploring. Congrats on the salmon and I know you enjoyed the feast it provided.
What’s next? We wait with baited breath.
Cheers

Twice as good reading it the second time ;)
Before I even watch this, I must say how lucky you are to be able to do this. !!
I wish it were me !!
Thanks again, Dustin, another fantastic video.
Stay well. Stay happy. Peace.
Thank You for compiling, and sharing this wonderful adventure, Dustin. 💚 Nice fish! 😊
Just like I was there! Beautiful, needed that. Can’t go there but I can experience it vicariously. Thanks Dustin!
That is one sweet salmon you caught! Fishing for salmon is a dream of mine, either out in BC or in Norway, someday. Congrats on that beauty, lots of great meals for sure and loads of beautiful scenery as always. :D
Time to go make my second esspresso and kick my feet up! You have become my favorite part of Saturday morning. Brotherly love from the Bay of Fundy.
Thanks again Dustin for taking us to places and sharing the history that we might not ever get to know otherwise. Love the video and congratulations on the catch.
Oh sweet are we going to get an episode of the moon cooking show? Lol. Very nice Dustin, congrats.
I've heard very little about the Haida people but your videos have broaden my knowledge..I love your spirit and yes the bad jokes to..lol..Please keep your spirit as pure as it is ..Big ,big fan..
Another EPIC vid, Dustin! Much respect for taking the rig down that billy goat trail onto Polymar!
Extraordinary footage of the fog-just beautiful and moving. Likewise your extraordinary salmon catch! At long last.. Thank you so much.
Once again, you prove just how talented you are, Dustin! The scenery you shoot, including drone shots, are incredibly beautiful, and show just as much storytelling as you do with words. They just keep getting better and better.
Dustin, I can be having the worst day, but if I watch one of your videos, it's instantly a better day. Thank you for being you and sharing that with the rest of us - you're a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day! Happy, happy trails my friend!
I have left a piece of my heart in Haida Gwaii after watching your series. Nobody does it better Dustin. Beautiful salmon and fresh Dungeness! Cheers and thank you.
I appreciate that, thank you.
Ever consider making some hour+ long scenery loop? I bet people would play that for hours. Absolutely beautiful stuff!
I have thought of this. :) maybe put it on the list for the winter.
Your videos are just stellar, this one of the scenery and music was just WOW for me. You're my favorite 'nature/history' CZcams channel! Nice job on the salmon catch! Well worth the wait! Love, love, love you!
I always look forward to Saturday morning so I can watch your channel Dustin. I am from Bella Coola and have been to Haida Gwaii and loved it there too.
Dustin , what an epic video !!! Once again you’ve captured what most of us only dream of doing ! I was a bit on edge for the ol’ dually going down and the hitch grounding out there lol ! Congratulations on your catch you’ve earned it ! Thanks for making my Saturday morning brother, safe travels 👍🇨🇦
