    Great stuff! Why doesn't Kia make dash cams available as an accessory to add on at purchase? They can have Harman Kardon sound system, why not partner with a dash cam brand?

    Thanks. I had a dashcam hardwired in a professional shop.
    FYI, sentry mode in Teslas use quite a bit of battery.

    Very well explained. Did you know - the new Elantra 2024 model in much of the world - Korea for sure - had camera recording built right into the software - it is disarmed in our market 😢. LED headlamps and a wired dash cam is what I wanted when I bought my '21 Elantra - the word was best not too as you personally take on the risk and a place for the pointing of fingers if something electronic acts up. So it depends on how you hear that - officially you should be fine but in practical terms you know it will come up as an excuse if nothing else if something costly happens. Word to the wise is to not "stand out" in what you do to that car if that warranty is critical to you.

    I've stuck to a dash-cam that's powered from a power bank, then the power-bank plugged in the regular USB-C connectors in the car. That way I didn't plug something into something that wasn't intended to be plugged in 😀 (and more importantly, don't drain the undersized 12v battery in my EV6). Another interesting thing, I heard from some channel that some of the Kia cars in Korea are equipped with a "sentry" mode from the factory (using the factory mounted cameras), is that anything you have heard about? If that's true I wonder why they choose to not offer that as an extra feature in any other markets (at least that I have heard about)? Maybe too much legal obstacles, dealing with various legislations in different countries when it comes to video surveillance?

      Maybe I should have done that myself. I guess I still can. Are those batteries ok to stay in the heat? I always worry about batteries inside of the car.

      @@Shaolin_Chris Yeah, that could potentially be an issue, especially in a hot climate. I keep the pack down in the lower compartment under the center console, so it never gets direct sunlight + its close to the floor (cooler air). Another thing to look out for is to get a pack that can charge while it is discharging (not all packs do that). I.e. when you are driving you want to keep the pack charging but it must also be able to provide power to the dash cam at the same time (a.k.a. "pass through charging").

    I have a front and rear camera that it just plugged into the cigarette lighter and all the cords are hidden

    • @nereushixon
      @nereushixon Před 16 dny +1

      yep but that cigarette lighter port is switched off when you turn the vehicle off. The reason why people hardwire the dashcam to the battery is because its 'On' even when the vehicle is switched off. This is very critical in case you would want to dashcam to record when your vehicle is parked.
