Man, the young lad in the Golden bird story was so dumb, I couldn’t fall asleep because of my frustration with him. The fox came in clutch with great advice so many times, but his hay-filled brain couldn’t follow any of them 😭

From what I know it is essentially the same thing, just the German variant. It is indeed a coincidence that the stories have a "grim" nature, but maybe that is just the nature of 19th century Germany in general.
