DA Leader John Steenhusien addresses the nation on the party’s next steps. The NHI Bill will empower the Minister of Health to be directly involved in the day-to-day management of the biggest pile of taxpayer money that has ever been accumulated in South Africa.

This ANC can't fix roads, cut grass and trees along the road, they can't build bridges, water supply infrastructure and electricity, since 2007 we have struggling with loadshedding. Best solution for everybody: A private medical fund for EVERYONE- just administered by current PRIVATE medical funds and the medical bills of those who can’t afford it must then be paid by the government.

My husband developed post stroke epilepsy a few years ago and (1) if he had to wait for a public ambulance he would have died and (2) if we didn't have medical aid he would not be able to get the medicine he needs - they are not provided by the health department, not even generics.

Please DA stop them recently a friend of mine couldn't get a very urgent operation done because all the surgeons had emigrated. We cannot have our very sick parents children and family dying because there are no lo ger surgeons and skilled doctors. This is a huge huge crisis. We need to get Healthcare for all our people but not through this NHI. We will be so sorry as we will all be failed medically as well as financially. I have 3 doctors in my social circle, one is heading to Scotland (anaesthetist) and two are going to Australia (surgeon and GP). Their houses are sold, tickets are booked and they are gone… that’s just in my circle, and I’m not even a doctor, so imagine how many more I would know about if I was! All have said that it’s because of the NHI, as well as other factors like crime, safety, corruption, education level for their children etc. But most importantly the NHI because under it they will no longer be able to sustain their families and the benefits of their long hard work and successful careers.
The ANC needs to go, and not just half go by bolstering their numbers with coalitions. The only way they can truly be out, is if people vote with their heads. Please don’t waste your vote on smaller minority parties like ACDP or any other party than the DA, not because you fully support the DA, but because they are the biggest opposition party to the ANC and have the best chance of defeating them.
I understand the “better the devil we know” argument but we know this devil (ANC) way too well now and we have seen them slowly but repeatedly destroy our country over the last 30 years! And yes that is 30 years / 3 decades / a 3rd of a century!!! How much longer does the entire country need to suffer under the false illusion and guise of fixing apartheid yet they (ANC) are doing nothing for the people apartheid hurt the most?
The only people who the ANC (read including EFF and MK) will ever help, is themselves and their comrades in the struggle. They will help themselves to stealing most of the 15% VAT and income tax from every single person, from grocery packer to CEOs. They will distribute it to their own families and connections, but not to the poor, not to those living in townships, not to anyone but themselves. All while you, the brick layer, breathe concrete dust and die trying to make a living when they single-handedly made it 20% more expensive to live in just the last 3 years.
Use your vote and voice wisely, this may very well be the best and only time it will ever count. Typically the kind of person leaving SA would vote DA, I fear after this election and knowing what is to come if the DA (strongest non ANC party) doesn’t win, there will be no one left to vote out the ANC and their cadres.
This is the time South Africa, make it count!

The WC is by far the best province in the country, yet everything is held back by the corruption and poor national governance. Loadshedding, looting, corruption, cadre deployment, incompetence etc. severely diminishes anyone's ability to act.
People are migrating to the Western Cape in record numbers, because even the "poor" have it better there than in the rest of the country. Imagine how miserable you must be to leave your home province, because it's been rundown by the ANC. It's easy to be bitter when you're poor and blame those closest around you, but it's almost always a small group that are responsible: the government. They're the ones in the end that are responsible for what's happening in the country. Rather than fixing what's happening, they would sacrifice all that we have to just to stay in power.
The ANC have been part of some admittedly great things, but they ride that at all costs, even its own people, for that greed of power.
The only way to fix the poverty in the Western Cape, and South Africa, is to bolster our economy. And I don't believe you'll argue that the DA hasn't done their best to do that. But with the ANC running the country into the toilet which negates all the positives in the WC, it's easy to just blame the DA for "not doing anything".
This is totally unacceptable. What has happened to "freedom of choice"? Shocking behaviour and News. Good bye to all our wonderful doctors and nurses 😢
