YAMAHA U3 | Thinking about getting one?

- Just LOVE my U3. I'm a beginner, and have had digital pianos and a Yamaha U1. The U3 is just EXTRAORDINARY. Mine is a few years old, but it I had it to do over again - I would buy a refurbished U3 that was built within the last 40 years. They are rebuilt like new, and I've seen them for $6k ($15k+ new). Jason's Music Service, Brigham Larson, Rick Jones Pianos and Rimmers Music seem to sell a lot of them. I visited Jason's Music Service in MD and witnessed the technical expertise the shop uses to refurbish the pianos. Happy playing!!!

I have been playing piano for 8 years only took lessons for 2 years and mainly play by ear. I will say your playing is exceptional and keep on playing! The U3 is an incredible piece of music. It will definitely be my next purchase. I’m hesitant to buy a refurbished piano. The new ones are just so expensive.

Lovely sounds
They had these in two thirds of the practice rooms when I was in school (majored in piano performance a million years ago-- the remaining rooms had grand pianos in them). Great sound, and the transition from the U3 to a concert grand (when it's time to perform) is not too bad.

Thanks for the comment. I tried the B series and it wasn’t the same as the U. I’m glad you enjoyed the B series, and yes they are less expensive than the B series. Both are very nice pianos for beginners to learn on. Thanks again!
Owned a U3 but had to sell it when we moved. Beautiful piano and well worth the money you spend on them. Ricks Pianos is also a good place to buy them. They give you a 10 year warranty on them plus they will give you what you paid for your piano if you upgrade through them.
Nice sound! Not sure if all the songs call for it, but a bit less sustain pedal would be nice I think.

Hi. I have nearly the same story, but I go with Kawais. Just wait for the delivery from my K500 to that I change from my K300. I wish you l lot more of fun with your piano and your music!

I had a K300 and didn’t like it. some of keys had high pitched pinging sounds. Maybe it was just my ears.
Can you plz plz mention the pieces you were playing.. They sounded wonderfull and I want to listen the full version plz tell

after upgrading the U3 to baby grand, next upgrade has to be a bigger house before the final concerto piano upgrade....😀

I had play one, that wasnt any special. I think that normal size examble B_series piano is very good for home use. U_serie is for professional studio and concert piano and need for bigger space around it. The quality is quite as good In B-series piano. But sure is sounds great.
A brand new Kawai K300 is a far better piano than a refurbished Yamaha U3. I suppose it depends to some extent on what you are playing but if it’s classical go Kawai.
Ive heard similar comments about the K500, when compared to the U3. Apparently there’s carbon instead of wood in some parts. I played a K500 and it was really nice. My dealer is a big Yamaha dealer so I did not have an option to trade up for a K500. It comes down to personal preference and I love my U3 - even better than the Kawai’s…..although, like you state - the K300 and 500 are fantastic instruments as well. Can’t go wrong with any of them ….. in my opinion it’s splitting hairs and personal preference. Thanks Tom …. Great point for shoppers to consider - Cheers!!
A refurbished one from Brigham Larson is guaranteed to be as close to brand new as possible. I heard a little bit too much use of the sustain pedal. I would work on pedaling to make it sound crisper.
Hi Jason, thinking about getting a U3 myself, love the sound. But my room is like 25m2. Would that be too small of a room for a U3. Will the U3 be too loud?
The room I have mine in is 14’x10’. It’s a great sound - definitely fills up the room. I had a U1 in the room before - close to the same volume. There is a pre rice peddle (damper) to reduce volume. Fact is, any acoustic piano will be considered “loud” if a neighbor, room mate, etc doesn’t like piano. It’s a great volume I believe, and no neighbors have complained to me. My home is a single family house in Denver. Hope this helps
@@Jason1Romero Thanks! I'm from Europe. I'm a but confused with 14'X10', do you mean 14 inches by 10 inches? (that seems too mall :)) I'm not afraid of the neighbours, more so that the sound will be too overwhelming the room itself :)
@@shenlee2577 sorry - I meant 14 feet by 10 feet. The sound is not overwhelming. If you leave the lid closed it is workable. There is a way to crack half the lid open which sends sound directly at you and the lid can open fully which sends the sound “up”. Then, of course if you really want to be overwhelmed you can take off the top and bottom face plates to expose the soundboard and strings. I did that once. Once was enough. : )
I think you’ll be really happy with it. Depending on play volume will adjust. The bass is just so wonderful on the U3 (as compared to the U1. Hope this helps and happy playing!!
