What do you think? 🤔🤔 - I've been on a big kick lately comparing cheap vs expensive equipment, with a beginners perspective in mind, and I've found some pretty amazing pieces of kit for insanely cheap prices, but maybe I found the limit to that here. I've (mostly) had the mindset of "gear doesn't matter" and always thought it was the person behind the camera that mattered most, but this kinda threw that out the window. @@advntrswithmarley From what I saw, I'd say the S5800 was best, with the small camera not being that far behind. While the pink camera was objectively atrocious, it could still be considered to have character (for 'High Key Photography' maybe). As a hobby, I think that we can have fun shooting with all cameras as long as we know what kind of images they produce. That small camera would be great when out drinking with mates, and it's so damn small. Clean, clinically sharp images can sometimes be boring, which is why a website like "Lomography" is so popular. Imperfect photos can be interesting!
You didn't do a very good job explaining why each camera was so poor. It would have been better if you would have shown each image for longer and explain why it is so poor. Instead, you showed it for a couple of seconds and moved on, I had to pause the video, just to study the images. What was encoded in the metadata of the images? Did each camera use the same settings? Also, show each image next the the control image with the same settings. I've seen a lot of people using small cameras and/or their phones that have finger smudges across the lens which makes the photo look washed out.
Apologies it wasn’t to your standard my friend. The intent was for you, the viewer to decide what you prefer and which you feel did the better job. Sparking discussion and debate. Of course I have my own opinion on the subject but again, that’s not the intention here. To help clear a few things up: • There was no way to change settings on either of the cheaper cameras, so what is out of the camera is what you’re actually seeing. As for finding the metadata in Lightroom, it wasn’t registering as anything. I did the best I could with knowing those details beforehand. Hence why I tried to match everything else as close as I could. • Pausing the video and studying the images is exactly what I wanted you to do. Therefore you can actually take as much time as you need to look over the images. • I could have shown them against the control group but fitting 3 images side by side they would have been too small. If you’d rather smaller image as opposed to close to full size, than sure. But the trade off is they’re compressed EVEN more than they already have been due to CZcams and so the lesser of two evils is to just not have them all side by side.
