This is a masterclass in acting a song. You used the word storytelling and that is absolutely correct. Its something a lot of singers overlook. Whether you are standing at a mic on a stage, or in a musical, you are telling a story though song. Adding a little "Storytelling" into your singing will elevate a song to the next level. And this is one of the greatest examples of it I have ever seen. I remind you, that you feel as if you have watched a whole show, but she is just sitting in front of a mic, and never leaves the stool. Oh, and when did you react to "Make it Rain"? I cant find it anywhere in your videos? I also agree with you on that as well, it is one of the best vocal performances I have ever seen. Sho is one of the best singers you have never heard of. She is a singers singer. Lots of "famous" singers like Tori Kelly, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande are fans.

I'm so glad you reacted to her singing this song. She is so good and in character in such a way while singing it that every time I hear it it makes me cry cause I believe every word she is saying as though she went through it herself. I also love that even though the song ended she didn't break character either. I think that's call something isn't it? when even though people clap you don't break character. I think you mentioned it before. But this version is so beautiful and I learned so much from you of the different techniques she is using that I'll be incorporating it into my singing from now on. I have recorded some songs on my phone where I emphasize the consonants and sang a little like this cause the song I wrote I felt it in my heart. And when my brother heard me singing it like that he cried. And he told me you sang like you felt every word. And it was that emphasis on the consonants and the starting slow and building up of the song too. So it's true. But thank you for making the video cause I'll be more conscious of doing that when singing. She sang it so beautifully. I love watching this performance over and over.

I absolutely love Sara Bareilles 💕 however Shoshanna owns this song. Its hers. She earned it with the tears she has pulled from my head every time I listen to her sing this. Her Voice and Focus while singing this song can draw tears from a rock. Great Reaction to one of my faves.

your breakdown of this song was perfect, this is why I will keep recommending Joni Mitchell young vs old both sides now, a lot of what you talk about here comes to the forefront as you see the evolution of a singer over years. How meanings transform as time passes in a persons life.

"That's just rude how good it is" - me, everytime I listen to Shoshana sing anything I've seen several reaction videos to this song and they all point out how connected she is to it and how she probably grabs from her own personal experience to perform it, and maybe she does but honestly, Sho serves that rawness and that emotion in EVERY song she sings, it doesn't matter if she´s playing a waitress or a green witch or Judas (look up her version of Heaven on their Minds: perfection)

I have followed Shoshana for several years now. She is nothing short of absolutely incredible! I keep wondering why she isn't a household name. I have seen this video before. I remember the first time I saw it, I said to myself that she is either the BEST actress on the planet, or she is connecting to this song on a deeply personal level. But actually, every single video I have seen of her, she is always this awe-inspiring. Definitely a woman that deserves so much more attention. I am so glad you love her work also! One of my first, and favorite, songs of hers is a duet she did with Matt Bloyd of "Who Would Imagine a King". You should check that one out also!

I've often wondered if she connects back to the time where she was in love and engaged to be married and then...tragedy...he gets hit by a car and dies. In an instant she was living a life she never wanted. I've been there, different circumstances, but the same shell-shocked despair.
I have to agree with you. I have inferred through interviews and some of her appearances that Waitress, the role of Jenna and this song was healing for her. She has been pretty candid about how emotional problems were affecting her physical health before taking this role..... She talks about being sick all the time, about how she would get sick before a performance, about feeling so much fatigue. Then this role literally fell into her lap, she didn't even audition, they called her up and offered it to her. She has talked about how this show, and Jeremy Jordan specifically "cracked her open" and allowed her to express her heart. I can imagine that playing this role 8 times a week, going on that emotional journey every night for 5 months has got to be cathartic in some way. A role like this can take a toll. Jenna goes on a real emotion journey in the show, and I can see how if you have some unresolved emotional baggage you could be able to exorcise some demons doing it.

I found that some of her lyrics didn't fit her expression about 1 min in, esp some sad parts. Might be how she has to form some vocals idk, but damn she really picked it up from that point on. She surprised me alot. Much respect. Great reaction Maggie, you're words and expressions say it all :).

Morisette Amon version is better..
Nah... shosana version is perfection. The voice and the act, the feel that she delivered is beyond. Mori's version is great too but she's not in the same league as shosana.
