Bro, my last jump at BAC, i collided with the other jumper on the opposite door during my c-17 exit. Immediately our main parachutes became entangled in the suspenders and I was wrapped in main chute which didn’t allow me to pull my reserve. So we started free falling towards the earth and I’m screaming at him to pull his reserve which he eventually does about 50 ft from the surface and we both land without injury.

I saw that happen my first time as Jump Zone Safety Officer. Neither guy deployed their reserve, and they went in hard. When I got over to them, they were both conscious. They said that the rigging lines were completely wrapped around them and they had no chance to get a reserve deployed cleanly. So they followed their training and locked in the tightest landing position they could. One guy was going backwards, sat down hard and broke 4 vertebrae. The other stayed upright, but as his knees buckled, he broke his nose on the reserve pack. Both survived, as you can tell.

Thank GOD the jumper got the reserve out and the last minute. Anyone! Anyone! Who thinks that they would have done any different in jump school did not attend US Army jump school. I remember my last day in ground week, they gave a demonstration, a black hat wearing a T10 had the chute deployed and the instructor called a malfunction, the jumper was shaking the risers, kicking at the chute and blowing in the direction of the chute. The instructor said, "you have the rest of your life to get your reserve out". This after they had dropped a streamer and a may west from the big ungawa. This jumper most likely didn't pull the reserve consciously, the jumpers training took over.

This is at 1250' AGL. He had a partial malfunction which resulted in reduced lift. He is supposed to activate his reserve as soon as he notices there's no opening. Even if I gave this guy the benefit of the doubt (and I really don't considering this says Army Airborne School) he at the very least should have realized there was a malfunction during his second PoP. Count the time elapsed yourself from the exit to the deployment of the reserve.

If this actually is you failing to perform your simple PoPs on a jump school jump, I wouldn't be so quick to raise my hand and be proud. 21 seconds from malfunction to deployment. I bet this soldier has a unique appreciation of secondary and respect for the insignia. When that black dot past decent from the first wave of jumpers. You can actually see him double what you have to. Too allow yourself those few seconds 1.5-3.0 seconds to get your secondary but cut away your primary is a MUST YOU HAVE TO NO IF OR AND ABOUT IT. Them pull. But he or she made themselves big and wide to slow the decent. Those 4-11 Mph decreased speed adds up to seconds 2.5 -3.5 seconds for full ribs opening and eating air. They still hit in double digits but not high digits under 45mph. Bet it Hurt too LOL. But you gotta be alive to feel pain .😂😂😂😂😀😅
