Abraham Laboriel & Friends Play Songs Of Koinonia
Koinonia is the most amazing band I've ever heard. 1984 was the year I first heard the music of this band. That time they just recently had a concert here in the area .... grrrr .... I didn't know about it. 1986 I got to experience them live for the first time in Ålesund. I was totally blown out !!! All the musicians in Koinonia are musicians from the very top shelf. Koinonia 1986 in Ålesund consisted of: Abraham Laboriel Bass, Harlan Rogers Keyboards, Hadley Hockensmith Gutar, Bill Maxwell Drums / Percussion, Alex Acuna Drums / Percussion and Justo Almario Saxophone. An experience of the rare and a concert I will never forget. Unfortunately I was not at the concerts they had in the early 80's in the Ålesund area.
The concert at Sjøborg will pay tribute to Abraham Laboriel, the man who started Koinonia
Abraham Laboriel senior, also known as "Abe", is a Mexican bassist who has played on over 3,000 recordings. Guitar Player Magazine has described him as "the most widely used session bassist of our time" Must be the world's best bassist
Hadley Hockensmith my favorite guitarist. Also plays bass. Guitarist for Neil Diamond.
Bill Maxwell is 1 or 2 or my favorite drummer. He doesn't just beat the drums but he plays the drums.
Alex Acuna same category as Maxwell. Very interesting to hear an interview with Alex from his time in Las Vegas where he also played for Elvis Presley. He is Also known from the band Weather Report.
Harlan Rogers plays so amazing the keyboards. Without a doubt my favorite on keyboards.
Justo Almario is fantastic on saxophone and flute.
Abraham Laboriel, Hadley Hockensmith and Bill Maxwell, former members of Koinonia, will be present at this concert, as well as Swedish Per-Erik Hallin on piano/electric piano ?, Norwegian Frøydis Grorud on woodwinds and Norwegian Trond Helgerud on Keyboards.
Per-Erik Hallin toured with Elvis Presley 1973 and 1975 twenty four years old, and can be found on Elvis Presley, Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis LP, Recorded March 20, 1974 (Hallin member of the choir Voice)
Elvis Presley, Good Times 1974 LP and Elvis Presley, Promised Land 1975 LP (Hallin played piano on numerous tracks)
Frøydis Grorud is known from the TV program beat for beat on NRK and she know the saxophone as her own handbag.
