If it's Aero Precision I'm always interested in what they come out with. I'm with you on the firing pin, I've never seen a coated one before. As far as bcg's go I prefer AP's nitride or phosphate. No huge difference between the two finishes imo. The nicest and my favorite bcg I have is the Lantac NiB, the lubricity of that bcg is insane. With that said due to how much they cost it'll probably be the only one I ever own lol
Never tried a Lantac, but they’re quality for sure! Unfortunately this Pro BCG isn’t for my personal build, but on sale they’re a great deal in my opinion as far as the upgrades/quality. But 99.9% of folks are just fine with a normal quality BCG
On a system that has a short barrel with carbine length gas I'd say it's more important but If you have a mid length or rifle length gas system a standard good bcg will do for most
I gave one of their Pro Series CHF barrels a shot and it has very excessive headspace, not a very good first impression. I'm giving them the chance to make it right, but I think I'll stick to only their receivers and handguards going forward. I checked it using two bolts, both brand new, a Sharp's XPB and Cryptic Mystic Midnight. I also have two other new barrels, a custom Black Hole barrel, and a Faxon, with both of those passing to rule out the Forster gauges. Both bolts spun around like hell with the NO-GO gauge in it, so that's not good, the thing could've blown the hell up on me had I fired a shot w/o checking the headspace.
No firsthand experience with their Pro barrels yet, but any manufacturer can put out a bad batch. This is why I always recommend headspace gauges regardless. I will say I’ve heard of out of spec headspace gauges… a buddy of mine ran into this on a 6MM Arc build I believe it was. Let me know how Aero handles your barrel issue. Sucks to hear, but I’m sure they’ll take care of it.
@@ChristianGrest so what do you suggest. I bought one of these for an aero upper. I asked some guys at the local gun store, they were like they never check headspace, I don’t know. I just bought a microbest chrome bcg. It dangerous to just install it willy nilly. And like you said, what if the gauge itself is wrong?
@@LKaramazov I always check headspace, but it’s rarely to find an AR-15 bolt out of spec in regards to headspace. Especially if they’re from the same manufacturer.
I have used many different brands of BCG's and to me they all work the same, none preform better than the other. From a $69 PSA BCG up to a $300 Wilson Combat they all have been reliable
Same experience. I think the difference is ease of cleaning and high round count… that’s where the benefits are. The majority of us will never wear out a BCG. I have had to repair gas keys, extractors and replace gas rings, but that’s the extent.
I have a couple of Aero Precision BCG's and they've been reliable and always function, but if you're looking for something similar in performance and value Rosco Manufacturing and White Label Armory both make fantastic BCG's! WLA makes some really great parts, lower parts kits, rails and even sells compete uppers and I've been impressed with their quality. Rosco is another company that makes fantastic stuff and I am a huge fan of their barrels...currently building a 12.5" AR with Aero Precision M4E1 receiver set and rail with Rosco Manufacturing barrel, gas block and BCG and going to try out the BCM lpk with enhanced trigger on this one.
I actually have a limited edition DM Slyder WLA billet lower and billet upper I’m waiting to build. Quality seems good so I might run one of their BCGs with this build as well.
So they listen to school of the American Rifle about the cam pin But totally disregarded his advice about bolt carrier finishes naming nitride as one of the worst. And to think they could have saved money on each unit and charge the same price by just using a phosphate finish which is objectively superior. Come on Aero. Come on gun industry
His video came out after the release of these BCGs. And I do believe he mentioned nitride finish is good so long as it’s done right. Many manufacturers mess that part up. I’ve had good results with nitrided BCGs, but I get where SOTAR is coming from… he sees BCGs from all over the place and sees more issues with A versus B. I was in search of replacing two BCGs, so I do a lot of YT videos watching - the School of the American Rifle autopsy on LMT-BCG, none, he said, I have never seen any broken". The best there is! $500 LMT-BCG.

i have both but while nitride cleans up easier, it's slick surface sheds lubricant vs phosphate and in severe duty use you want that lube in place.

Agreed. I’ve not had any issues with BCGs except it seems the shorty ARs are much harder on things, such as gas rings etc…

They don’t tell you what to do with the cam pin mark, what does it mean. How do you use it?
The mark is just so you know which way it’s pointing so you can install it the same direction every time. I peen mine that aren’t already marked.
The BEST there is the LMT-BCG! $500.
