It's time for another round of nostalgia Anime piano series! And this week's upload is none other than the first opening of Inuyasha: 「Change the world」! It's definitely one of my favorite OP/ED songs from Inuyasha because the melody of the chorus is absolutely timeless and it has an irresistible positive energy.
Since Inuyasha has played a great role in my childhood, I wanted to make this week's upload somehow special. I was imagining "how would a piano version of 「Change the world」 would sound, if it's being used as a BGM in the final episode of Inuyasha?" And thus, the idea for a "ballad piano version" of 「Change the world」 was born.
Ideally, this piano arrangement shouldn't sound like a piano cover anymore, but more like a standalone piano piece, as a part of the original Inuyasha soundtrack. Perhaps one day, I can actually record piano pieces for the official soundtrack of an Anime series in the future.
I took some liberties with some chord progressions in 00:47 and 2:20 between the verse and chorus, to make the key change from A major [chorus] to F major [verse] as natural as possible. The bridge part in 3:35 is also a re-imagination of the original bridge part in 「Change the world」 and it is deliberately arranged to sound like an improvisation. The goal is to further develop the music after the second chorus until it reaches the turning point in 03:51.
What follows after the long pause in 03:59 should be played with the most delicate sound as possible, because in this moment, I was silently saying goodbye to all the characters from Inuyasha. Not gonna lie, I felt quite emotional when I was playing this part during recording. Sometimes, the power of nostalgia can be very powerful.
Last but not least, this piece ends with the chorus melody [G-F#-F#] in 05:04. I still don't want the music (or story) to end, so I played the chorus melody one last time to create an "open ending" of the music. Perhaps, we will see a continuation of this story in the future.

I've got 2 children, 22 and 17 years old. I listen to this song and I remember our weekends watching Inuyasha episodes, our laughs , the sad moments. Thank you for recalling the beautiful moments Sharad with my children.

Yes, Inuyasha was amazing, I was sad that it ended. But the sequel came out a few weeks ago, it’s not as good, but It is interesting. Also the opening brings me back to 2012.

I literally screamed when I saw this!! InuYasha was the first anime I watched as a kid and I still hold it very dear and close to heart. I never thought I'd see the day when you'd cover one of the songs from it. Some of my best memories are from when I was a little kid watching this show with my sister and my cousins! I can't wait to hear it!!!

Inuyasha wasn’t my first anime but it surely held a special place in my heart. It was literally my childhood. I remember I would be watching this and attempting to sing along and being hyped ever single episode. I would borrow this from the library and watch it multiple times. My mom even asked me if I would ever get tired of it, but I never did. Man memories am I right?

When I was really young it aired past my bedtime, so I would stay up in secret and and watch it in the dark with the volume set to like, 2. I teared up listening to this. So much nostalgia. Inuyasha is one of my all time favorite animes, and the first anime that I always eager to watch. I drew lots of inuyasha drawings, collected stickers, posters, read fanfictions about it. I remember when I was a kid, my family would tease me because of my love for Inuyasha, that's why I had to hide all my collectibles :(
Now as an adult, I still keep them, and I rewatch the anime whenever I can.

This song is so nostalgic, my first OP from my first anime ever. The arrangement is so beautiful and warm. In my opinion, most if not all of Inuyasha’s soundtracks are simply timeless and I hope you will rearrange more of them. Thank you for the amazing performance!
Shattermirror Mine too. Though I watched this show alongside Rurouni Kenshin (my actual first anime). InuYasha was just the first anime OP that got stuck in my head and made me consider trying anime.

Just finished watching and GOSH I’m usually never able to make it right when it premiers and I didn’t even realize Animenz was gonna do the song until I went on a few minutes ago and saw that he was premiering haha
This was so beautiful and amazing and it just made me feel really happy to hear this, you know? I don’t know this opening all that much (since the episodes I’ve watched so far on Netflix don’t have this one) but it’s still recognizable enough to feel nostalgic, and this incredible piano cover made it feel even more precious to me than it ever was for me before
I don’t review a lot, but I’d like to say thank you, for all of your absolutely amazing covers, and just the inspiration and love that I get to feel through them. There’s just something about them, this passion, that I can really feel through every note. It’s simply wonderful and beautiful. From the get go, this is the feeling that captures my soul and holds onto until the very end.
I hear a little bit of Ed Sheeran - Photograph in the first few chords of each chorus. I get a bit of Nagi no Asukara every so often. The steady, ambling rhythm pushes consistently throughout. The lowest bass notes resonate boldly. It all further adds to the nostalgic, warming vibe.
I love how you can hear the faint extension of the held note at 3:56 into the soft final chorus entrance.
I didn't expect this piece to capture my attention as much as it did. Something about all of the little details above coming together makes it such a great ballad arrangement.

The more I arrange, the more I understand how important it is to keep the "rhythmical pulse" of the piece alive throughout the whole piece. After I record a draft version from start to beginning, I listen to it again and try to spot passages, which is lacking rhythmical energy. Ultimately, the goal is to make the piano piece sound like a whole.

Much agreed - an iterative arranging process definitely lends itself to a more polished end product. There have definitely been times i've heard things that i'd like to change only on a played back recording, which i don't notice at all "in the moment" when i'm playing the piece.

Oh an animenz ballad piano version... my favorites! They are always so special and you make them sound like your own compositions with a specific original structure. After reading the description, I believe that you would really be able to compose great anime songs (if the opportunity is given to you, I hope so) because you can convey the soul of anime and express such various emotions!

This version not only brings back the free and unrestricted spirit of Inuyasha, but also introduces a gentleman touch to the melody, which is really something admirably new. As for the "saying goodbye to all those characters" part, it's sweet and touching. Thank you for letting me know that those beautiful stories of the characters can not only be extended in the daydream, but also be elaborated in such a melody.

Today I had a bad day, a problem with a girl that used to be like Kagome for me: so sweet, so kind, so gentle, so perfect... I guess...
I met her 13 months ago, we were friends, no more else. But 2 months ago she had a very big issue: he was nearly get kicked of his house for problems with money and with his father. Then his ex left here because she gets depressed, instead of helping her.
But I've been there for her since then. Everyday I was texting her, trying to cherry up her, trying to share the problems and trying to understand her, making jokes... just to make her feel better. I have been her confident all this time. I've helped her to find a job, to make a CV, to meet new people (she is living in an isolated town, so she can't move cause she have no car), I've ofered her money, I've been there ALL time. Now she is recovered and she smiles again. She is going to start university, she is making her driving tests and she will be hired soon in a job that I've found for her.
And today... Today I've discovered in IG that she is going out with his ex again... She has forgoten what I've done all this time and now I don't exist for her... She is dating again the one who left her and who mentally abused her when she was depressed...
I am just an idiot, a good idiot with a big heart who can't leave a nakama crying... An idiot who only want to see others happy... An idiot who cries everytime he remembers how idiot he is...

Off topic, but op has nice knuckles. I've noticed different people have different types of hands depending on what instrument they play (bassists tend to have smoother hands, violinists tend to have the first 2 veins bigger than the rest, pianists have more defined metacarpals, etc)

Inuyasha was the first very long anime I watched, and I watched it all throughout my years 9, 10 and 11 during school, the final act not coming out till my...first year of college I believe? I absolutely adore Inuyasha, and I'm so happy that it's getting a sequel! This is by far the best cover I've heard of the original opening :)
