  • Harihar fort also known as Harshagad is a fort located 48 km from Igatpuri, Nashik district, of Maharashtra. It is an important fort in Nashik district, and was constructed to look upon the trade route through Gonda Ghat. It receives many visitors because of its peculiar rock-cut steps.
    There are two base villages of the fort, Harshewadi and Nirgudpada. Climbing from harshewadi is easier than the nirgudpada village till we reach a scarp.

    Today ( date 11sept 2021) I visited harihar fort.. It was a thrilling experience.. I started trekking from nasik side village.. It was raining heavily and i completed trek with such bad weather.. all around fog was there.. so i couldn't view top to bottom.. but the journey was once in a lifetime

    Beautiful. The climb down is almost always harder than the climb up. Gravity seems so friendly on the way up and very scary on the way down.

      We're used to putting our physical weight forward in daily life. Having to lean back on the descent is a much less familiar task I think. Very unsettling.

      Harihar fort / Harshagad is a fort located 40km from Nashik City, 48 km from Igatpuri, 40 km from Ghoti in Nashik district, of Maharashtra. It is an important fort in Nashik district, and was constructed to look upon the trade route through Gonda Ghat. It receives many visitors because of its peculiar rock-cut steps.
      Harihar fort was built during the Seuna (Yadava) dynasty period. It was surrendered to Khan Zamam in 1636 along with Trymbak and other Pune forts. The fort was captured by Captain. Briggs in 1818 along with 17 other forts.

      Yes, It's Totally Safe..
      There are Man-made handholds on each step to grip your hands. You can Easily climb Up and get down to the base.
