      Ya I found out some things too. Like if you hold a copper sulfate crystal in your hand for longer than 20 seconds it starts burning your skin. Also, if you accidentally drop a crystal on the floor, it will shatter. Hope you clean that really well, before the dog licks it, or missing pieces are injested by children.

    I buy a brand called zepp I believe it is. Its like a pond cleaner or something its been a long while since ive used copper sulfate but in the USA a quick google search will yield this product. Ive found it in menards and Lowes but I'm sure home depot probably carries it. The zepp brand copper sulfate is the purest. Nice chunky blue crystals. Other brands are a lighter blue which maybe lower purity but it could be different amount of water of crystallization idk.

    • @Linus-nq2op
      @Linus-nq2op Před 2 lety

      Theoretically a magnetic field can affect the Cu2+(copper) and SO42- (sulfate) ions in the solution, but to make visible manipulations to the shape you'd need an extremely strong magnetic field, if it does work at all.

    Is there a way of suspending the seed crystal in solution without tethering it (solutions with differing densities or something)? It would be nice to grow a pure crystal without the nylon embedded in it. You achieved some descent sized crystals though. The spinning display is a nice touch too! I planned on using a bottom-lit LED display, but didn't think of a spinning platform...until now of course :)

    Hello. Very new to crystal growing, but really love it. I tried following your experiment and was very careful about using exact measurements, distilled water, and following your steps to a T. My solution is not crystalizing though.
    There are some kind of tan-ish granules that are collecting at the bottom of my solution. Almost looks like sand. I filtered them off and let it sit another 24hours, but now there is more sand-like stuff and no crystal growth though the water is evaporating.
    I did not order my copper (II) sulfate through your link. Is it possible my sulfate is contaminated? Is there something else I may be doing wrong?
    Thank you for any advice you can give me. I want to grow one of these beauties for a good friend's 30th.
