Recently bought one of these little gems myself. As u point out, the price diff is quite significant between the 2 types of gas canister. Verdict - it’s a no brainier! 👌🏻
Been searching on internet for best solution for about 2 hours now, wish I'd found this first. Thanks man.
Hi mate thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment,
1) lying down with latch face up to come out in gas form instead of liquid. 2) dont shake it when using. 3) keep from overheat
The cheap can has a huge arrow on its side. As long as the arrow is on the top at the lying can gas can pour out. There's a L-shaped nozzle inside the can which is pointing upward to that arrow. With this nozzle upwards you always gain gas with your hose.
The cheap can contains 100 % of high efficient butane.
The expensive can contains a mixture of propane (30 %, less efficiant) and butane (70 %). It performs better in temperatures below +5 °C. The propane stays gassy far below 0 °C and helps you to ignite your burner. If you keep the can beside the burner it will slightly warm up and the liquid butane will become gas at last and the burn continues.
But you already have a burner with a pre-heating loop. So it's not neccessary to buy the expansive "winter" gas at all. With that pre-heating loop you could use your cheap butane can even upside down with liquid "gas". The pre-heating loop gasifies the liquid before it reaches the air.
I'm using the cheap solution for years now and if you are buying the cans on stock you'll pay only 80 pennies for one can.
Best review I've seen on Utube for these adapters. Short and sweet. Txs
I use those adapters too but the cheap blue canisters are butane only and perform poorly in the cold, whereas the others are a butane and propane mix so you can use them in lower temperatures.
If it’s cold wrapping them in a sock or a blanket can help, otherwise the pressure drops and you get a weak flame.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but there is a significant difference between the two types of gas canisters. The Coleman - and almost all others of the same type contain a butane / propane mixture - the cheaper cartridges are butane ONLY. The reason for this is that a butane propane mix is *significantly* hotter than butane alone, and works much better in really adverse weather conditions.
The really great thing about the lower temperature and cost of butane only cooking, is that it can simmer slightly better and costs way less - as you have mentioned. Just don't take it on any high alpine routes :-)
I was going to say about temps but you covered it. The cp250 are good for summer but in winter they’re useless and loss heat while cooking.
I picked one up last winter and I love it! I can't believe I didn't know about these before. I live in western Canada and when I go on road trips it's usually through the mountains with towns being fairly small if they exist at all. So it's hard to find replacement fuel and I hate taking a bunch extra because the car can get fairly hot. A couple years ago I ran out in the middle of a road trip and went hundreds of kilometers before finally finding some ISOPRO. Plus we had to basically find a specialty shop in a tourist town (Whistler, BC) so it ate into our time we could have been away from people. It also feels like a big waste to be using ISOPRO to boil water for some tea. I can justify it if I'm doing a back country backpacking trip and want to shave off all the weight and volume I can. But now if I was to head out on another road trip I'll just bring a couple cans of butane and then I can get more if I run out. Save lots of worry about running out. So as long as it is safe this seems like a great investment for lots of reasons. I would probably actually buy a couple since they're so cheap but also small. Plus I noticed they come in lots of colors so you could get one to match each can of butane :P
Now I understand. I looked for info on the connections, found you and saved a fortune. I nearly bought a six pack of Coleman’s. Many thanks 😊

Sound advice about refilling canisters. These adaptors are very good, been using this adaptor for years.
Thank you Sir! Searched for this and found your vid straightaway. I’m onto it!
Hi mate thankyou for watching
That’s bloody good. Pay for itself after a few uses.
Cheers Dan.👍🏾
You can get them for £2 now mate
Great info, thanks for sharing this video!Makes fuel cannister use more versatile and thrifty! Very useful!
I'm in the process of gearing up for my Lands End to John O Groats this adapter is a no brainer, getting gas canisters is dead easy with this you could even buy a pack of four and throw three away and you are still saving money.
Thanks for this video mate. Really helped me out and will definitely save me some money. Take care
That's bloody fab. What a great saving. Every penny counts when your on a budget.
Very good and clear advice. Thank you for your time and effort.
YOUR welcome thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment,, i hope you liked my video enough to subscribe 🤣🤣🤣
nice shout, i bought two ( in case i loose one ) can afford to be a bit liberal with my cooking now at that price
Love going back over your old vids 👊🙏🏼
Just seen it Amazon, thank you for confirming it works!
I know video was made a few years ago cheapest I've seen those camping gas is £4.99 for 4..Good video.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and havnt viewed all your back catalogue yet, but I was researching these adapters. The amazon reviews are rubbish. It's not clear what cans they fit or why some people have leaks. so I did a Google search and lo and behold English Woodsman came up. Thanks mate. that was so helpful.
Absolutely spot on what I needed cheers dude!!!
Hi tann thankyou for watching
Awesome dan .. I brought one befor Christmas..but not used it yet .. was good watch this .. cheers Chris & Sam
got one, well the son got me one brilliant not as much pressure in my opinion much lighter as well
Thank you so much for this. Brilliant and huge cost savings. Thanks again and best wishes
Thanks for the info. I've just bought 2 of these adapters based on your vid. Keep the videos coming.
WARNING ABOUT FLARE UPS - THIS WARNING IS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE BUT MAY BE INCORRECT. FIND OUT FOR SURE FROM AN EXPERT.
These bayonet type camping gas canisters are great, BUT inside the cylinders is a plastic tube that must be orientated the correct way. To allow the tube to let gas out (and burn with a blue flame) rather than let liquid out (and burn with a wild, dangerous, and very high yellow flame) the cylinder needs to be in a horizontal position AND rotated so that the notch in the rim (the notch is near the valve) points upward.
FAILURE TO DO BOTH THESE THINGS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS
There may also be other hazards I am not aware of!
If what I have said is correct I would suggest adding warning to video.
Enjoyed your video.
exactly what happened to mine i bought 3 different makes of adapters even a dearer one and all flared up badly so i purchased the proper cylinder and have been using it since last year with no problem at all,i wish i had known about this issue
You are correct plus the gas in the taller cans is only BUTANE and not a PROPANE Butane mix as in the Coleman can ,the butane can will stop working at lower temperatures plus the calorific value of butane is much lower than butane propane mix .
just got a old taymar twine camping cooker, had to hit it with hammer and spray with rust remover, but got it going, got 2 small gas containers, at £4.50 each, the screw in ones, was looking into how to use the ones you use, they are cheaper, found your vid, going to get one or 2, adapters, :)
Hi mate thankyou for watching them adaptors work great,
Save money in the long run
cheers for sharing mate I ordered one of these after watching this 3 weeks ago and it was delivered yesterday works a treat thank you. ….ATB..colin.
THANKYOU for watching i am glad my video Helped you , please subscribed for more helpfully video to follow
I've been using these adapters for a long time and they work great. I live in Philadelphia PA in the USA. Near me the cheapest and easiest place to get the canisters is at the Asian supermarkets. I wonder why our local camping stores, be it here or in the UK, don't sell the adapters since they've been around for a while. Ordering on eBay from China can be a bother. Lisa
zalkona thank you for watching and commenting
Hi, amazon sell them for £1.89 here in scotland. Dont know what that is in dollars, maybe about $1.25?
Neil McCarron £1.89 or £2.08 still a great by
Absolutely. Tryin to tell the lady in Philly she can get them in amazon without a fuss and i told her that price so she can do a comparison. But id gladly pay two squid for them. So can save a fortune on gas bottles. Atb from neil.
+Neil McCarron I do use the adapters and the cheap cans of fuel. I'm just wondering why our local stores don't carry them since they have become so popular?
Excellent tip. I don't have a gas stove but this will save many views £££
Nice tip for summer/autumn.Thanks.Yet to use my Feuerhand lantern as daylight still good a while yet in UK Paraffin not cheap either.Heard run ok on olive oil.Yes,maybe wick burns bit quicker but cheap to get.Yes,battery things have their place but give me old school tried n tested every time. All the best
Been looking at the adapters self. Think you've just convinced me into ordering one!!
Thanks for the vid, helpful as ever.....

Andy.
Andrew Crofts thank you for watching and your comment.
for £2.08 it saves money in the long run
Great idea, as I use a lot of gas. Adapter is £1.89 delivered off Amazon. Thanxs for the tip.
Modest Adventurers have you order one ??
Just about to.
yea this adapter is only for stoves that have liquid feeding mode or a pre heater tubes, it can become dangerous because those cans can feed liquid butane if not taken care properly.and you dont want a fireball stove.
Thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment ...
Great tip Dan,thank you.
Great shout 👍🏼🇬🇬
Just blew myself up 🔥💥 cheers👼
Thanks
I’ve got a odaland stove that has the adapter in the little orange box so I can use both gas cans but when I get out I will be using the cheaper gas cans .
reading most of the post, as long as you lay the can horizontally, like me, most of the time, and the arrow in upper most, it should be safe,
Agreed, after all the cookers these are normally used in takes the can horizontal imho the cut out is just to aline the locking piece I don't think the cans have an up or down when on their side.
Ordered . Thanks for the info .
You can't go wrong mate,
Thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment
The butane cans can be found ANYWHERE and that's why the adaptor is a good investment, especially if you travel like I do.
Nice tip thanks
Hi mate I hope my video helped you,,
They are good adaptors, wildcamp wayne's got one which i filmed at our last woodland camp...atb...jeff.
jeffiow that's where I seen it mate could not remember.
I use these with no problems, also got mine off Ebay
Hi mate it save money but there is some people that do not like them
Each to their own I suppose
i know this an old video but wish i knew about that adapter, stick with the blue campinggaz cans other cheaper ones can lose pressure and you lost half a can, you should buy your gas in winter when they are all on sale, you can get them cans as a propane butane mix but dont see them often, other cans have a thread on the top might be worth looking at them they the ones for the blowtorch thingy
Thanks for the info. I don't have a gas stove at all but considering buying one.
Wild Brigante don't buy a cheap stove mate you end up buying twice
Which one do you advise? I am intriguied by the MSR whisperlite but probably overkill??
Much safer to just refill the original cartridge as long as you
weigh it and don't exceed 374 grams gross for the 8 oz. size. The little nozzle adapter is cheaper as well.
The best price, as of April 2022, I've seen at a retail store was £10 for 8 cannisters which works out at £1.25 each. These cannisters contain a Butane-IsoButane Propane mix advertised to be effective to -20 deg C.
May I know what is the name of the adapter, please?
That is the mutz nuts fella!
Nice find
Nice one✔️✔️
Exactly the video i was looking for,,,I do have a mini BRS stove but im not sure if this method would be stable enough
Hello jamz thankyou for watching I am still using that adapter at work still going great,,, are you subscriberd to my youtube???

I got a smaller cooker and bought an adapter thats a stand for it too, works pretty good.

Just researching the gas canister adapter and found this video. It's 5yrs ago, have you had any problems???
Useful to know
Isle of Wight Bushcraft
for £2.08p useful to have as well
I’ve got one myself but it’s broke to stoves not sure if the if the butane without the propane is clean enough? cause it broke to brand new one stoves
Can the hose be disattached from the cooker?
I have never found 4 cans of Campingaz for £1.99 more like £1.50-£2:each.
Will a camping gaz regulator that fits on the big bottles connect to this adapter 👍🏼🇬🇬
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸 Thank you!
I'm not massively keen on those adapters, they aren't a very secure fit. Also the Coleman gas is propane/butane mix, whereas the tall cans are usually butane/isobutane. There is a difference in flammability, I nearly found out the hard way... All I can say is don't use it indoors when you test it. Don't get me wrong, these things could be very useful as long as you're not an idiot...
beatbasher thank you for you comment and thoughts about the adapter
English woodsman each to their own... in my opinion there are things worth scrimping on and some things not, anything involving flammable gas is the latter for me. I did buy one, but I don't think they lock in securely enough. I won't be using it unless I really must. Especially when used with cheap Chinese made stoves which don't have any safety certification and these seem to be getting very popular.
beatbasher I used main last night and I had no problems. . you might have got a dodgy one
English woodsman Through some messing about I figured that the gas bottle being cold and lying down are two contributing factors
yea this adapter is only for stoves that have liquid feeding mode or a pre heater tubes, it can become dangerous because those cans can feed liquid butane if not taken care properly.and you dont want a fireball stove.
Thank you have ordered good info cheers
Gordon Lynn did you order it after seeing my video ???
Yes glad you put that on
Gordon Lynn that's why I make CZcams review video
Thats a great dodge Thanks for sharing
Tony Kitchen thank you for watching
there r great for the money i got one in jan
May I know how long the 1 bottle can last at medium flame? thanks
Greetings, would it be possible to let me know a link or the name of the things we can see in the video? They seems very useful but a bit worry and confused before the purchase. Thanks a lot in advance. Good luck and more nice weather for your next adventure! Steven

What is the name of the adapter please?
I'm told the cans don't last as long as the dumpy containers. So you'd have to take two or more depending on usage for a 3 or 4 day trip. If you're backpacking, that could be hassle? I bought my adapter on Amazon for a £1
Eds Shed I am not sure about timing mate I will put that to the test .
thank you for commenting and letting me know this
Eds Shed they'll last ever so slightly shorter because they don't have quite as much gas in. I think the tall cans are 220g and the dumpy ones are 250g. at the end of the day. it's just a different shape container, so I can't believe you'd need two or three tall cans to replace one dumpy.
LambySRI .
I am going to put this to the test next weekend one full can of each and see if or what the time difference is
Eds Shed I've used on on a two night camp and there was still plenty left. There is less in them but not a huge difference
What are they called I'd like to order one
hi buddy were can i buy the hose attachement from fpr the coleman bottles?/ cant see it anywere without it coming with a stove
Hi mate have you looked on amazon
dan I've got a campingaz burner you can have....no adapter required...

I heard Butane does not evaporate well in cold weather, thus the Propane/Butane mix is way better if winter camping, or if high altitude at night for example.
@EWN - Have you noticed a difference in the burn rate in UK as per above? Cheers.
The two different gass container are quite different.
The cans with the screw connector, contain propane, the bottles with push connector contain butane.
The propane bottle is designed to lay down, not to stand up. It is also important pay attention to the orientation. The slot on the side of the connector is supposed to face up, to allow gass flow, not liquid flow.
+Butane bottle cost less
- Side-orientation/rotation of bottle is important to avoid liquid butane.
- gass is not usable bellow its boiling point, butane boils where water freeze.
-Propane cost more
+ Just keep connector on top.
+ Can be used well bellow freezing of water.
Only problem is the fly spray type cans are Butane which loses all pressure in the cold so no good in winter. The proper ones are 70/30 butane, propane mix so good in all temperatures
In idea where he’s getting 4 for £1.99?? Maybe it’s a northern thing?

@@englishwoodsman yeah had a flare up on mine (scary ,good job it was a metre from my tent and my face wasnt over it) and was Youtubing the problem and the comments on here have confirmed wat i wanted to know......basically the cut out on the canister has to be at the top if your gonna lay it down horizontally (as its vitually impossible to use them standing up which i thought was how one would stop it flaring).
i may do a video myself to clarify/test this as theres very little info out there.
Tnx! What is the weight of the adapter, sir?

what amazing accent is this ???

A 1 minute video took 6 minutes. Christ.
Don't think propane burns at low temperatures.
Dougie Paxton you right mate.
I put main In my sleeping bag with me warm it up a bit
Dougie Paxton Propane works at lower temps then butane, it's butane that doesn't burn at low temperatures, hence the butane propane mix in the cartridges. Still doesn't like being ice cold though.
Good info lamby, thanks. I'm in Scoland so if I'm away camping in winter I don't take chances.
Dougie Paxton No worries pal. I know what you mean. it's better to just go prepared rather then face the inevitable spluttering gas stove. Depending where you are camping, I've just got a gasification wood burning stove off ebay and it's absolutely superb IMO. ATB
Spoke too soon as you said at end too keen me
Well, we don't all use them. I can cook with gas at home, and I don't go into the woods to act like I'm in my kitchen. I burn wood, either with a campfire or woodstove.
but sometimes theres no wood.....like desert or upland moors ? or woods all wet in UK
You make simple maths sound really difficult, please stop
Please stop 😂😂
