I think my leopard geckos and Russian tortoises actually initiate interation (approach me, notice I'm in the room, etc). The rest could kind of take it or leave it 😂
I had an alligator for 22yrs. I got him about 3 hours after he came out of the egg. This story is so heartbreaking for me. But after all of those thousands and thousands of hours that I worked with him, I felt like he had some kinda feelings for me. Let me get 1 thing straight now. Alligators do NOT feel LOVE!!! This one felt different to me. I could call him and he would come to me. I could swim with him and never once did he act like he was going to bite me ( after he got about 3 foot long. ) As a baby, yes he took a couple of snaps at me. He did catch my finger pretty good when I was feeding him shrimp one time. Not gonna lie, even though he was about 2ft long, that crap hurt bad and I should've had stitches. Later when he was about 10ft long, he head butted me and that sent me to the hospital. When you are explaining to your ER doctor and all the nurses what happened, they couldn't believe it. Our neighborhood had a stray dog and I was laying on the ground with Rex. The dog ran to the fence and started barking. Rex got a little spooked and turned real fast as I was trying to get up. He caught me on the top of my head and then Rex turned the other way instead of running over me thankfully, and he went back into his pond. I was seeing all kinds of stars and my wife luckily saw what happened. She's yelling at me that we have to go to the hospital. I said give me a towel so I can get all this water off my face. Then it hit me, I never got into the pond with Rex that afternoon. All this so called water was blood flowing freely from my head. It took 16 staples to close the huge gash that I had. My wife took pictures and you could see my skull!!! The doctor said that the skin that is over our heads is stretched to the max. Later on in life that stretched skin will start to get looser and looser, this is why we get wrinkles. I didn't know any of that and I hope that I teacher someone. Anyway, in January 2020 I donated Rex to our local ZOO sense their 2 gators died. When I brought him in to the ZOO to get his check up, to prove he was illness free. I had a thin rope around his neck to walk with me on my left side. We get him into the vet and they measured him and weighed him. They had asked me how large was he and I said a little over 10ft maybe and about 300lbs. I was a little off on my guess. Rex weighted in at 475lbs and measured 11ft 6inches. He was a big boy. The vet did ask one thing and when I answered her she freaked out. Why did I not tape his mouth shut before I brought him to the ZOO? I said I had NEVER taped his mouth shut once since I've had him. I have a pull down 2 ¾ sheets of plywood nailed together in the back of my truck so he can get in and out. It was more fun at the gas station when people saw him. They all were like that's a fake gator. He doesn't open his mouth. I looked at one little kid and asked him if he wanted to be food and he screamed no. But a lot of people took photos with him and never once did he hiss or growl. He just laid there till we got to the ZOO. Now I had been diagnosed with ALS in November 2019. The doctor told me to get all my affairs in order cause ALS would kill me in less than 2 years. Rex would die at the ZOO 2 months after I donated him. I am still upset with all of it. He was 100% healthy when I gave him to them. Hell I had to go and feed him the first month he was there. I got into trouble cause I jumped into his enclosure with 3 chickens. The guy that ran the park said that my gator could be a man eater and he never wanted to see me go across that fence again. I wasn't invited back again. R.I.P Rex, you were my best friend for 22yrs buddy. I hope there's a heaven for animals. 🙏
See I would say more so ball python rather than leopard gecko because with my leopard gecko she does not like being handled she like kind of hisses at me. In a way and she keeps jumping off my hands and trying to run away. But my ball python I opened up the lid and she will just come right on out.
At first I thought my gecko didn't really like me. He doesn't like to be held. I thought he only cared that I fed him. I went out of town one time and I had someone come and care for the reptiles while I was gone so he was fed and had water and everything. When I came back he ran out of his hide and came up to the glass, I stuck my hand in and he immediately crawled up into my hand. He did that the first three nights I was home then went back to his usual aloofness. Leopard geckos are freaking awesome.
Did I see Allie make an appearance? I want a tegu. But being bedridden for 8 years and being terminally poorly it wouldn’t be fair or right of me to get one
I had a tortoise for 30 years that absolutely was affectionate. He was a bit odd in other ways, but he loved to nuzzle every opportunity he could. He ran to me whenever he saw me, and in general was very sociable for a tortoise.
I have a Russian tortie who very much enjoys cuddles in her baby blanket. It's not about heat bc she has that in her enclosure. And if I get busy and don't have time to do that, she often won't eat well until she gets her cuddles.
I once had a sub-adult Ornate Box Turtle who I adopted (was dumped on me) and I saved from certain death with daily antibiotic injections and force-feeding for a month. He grew into an amazing animal who had free-rein in my living-room (with a hide, heat lamp, UVB lamp, water & food bowls in “his corner.”) Every morning he’d follow me around -which I thought was a food response, except he’d still follow me after being fed. He had toys he would actually play with (a red cat ball he’d chase.) When I was sitting down watching TV with my socks on he’d usually come and sit on my feet and watch with me. He could’ve just as easily stayed in his corner under his lamp, it wasn’t due to him being cold. I had him for nearly 23 years and have had other chelonians since but none were quite like J.B..
@@davidvento5481 exactly! They are all each their "person." But, when showed a lot of extra, GOOD (appropriate, not just smothering them, but attn they themselves enjoy) attn, they can form a real bond with you beyond food or heat. Is it deep, devoted love? No, probably not. But enjoying being by you just to be by you is, well, genuinely a friendship. (Friendship as far as a tortie goes!)
@@mrvwbug4423They’re extremely intelligent. If you raise them with respect and love they’ll return it usually. Not gonna say that they’re all sweet but they’re are some
I have a paralyzed rescue leopard gecko named Winnie. I’ve had her for almost 3 years now (never expected her to live this long!) and she’s my most affectionate reptile out of 7. She’s very well handled because I have to express stool out of her every couple of days and I hand feed her because she can’t chase crickets. But every time I go in the reptile room, she always comes out to greet me with bright little eyes. She’s come with me to children’s events and Halloween parties and is the chillest little girl. I hope I have her for many more years.
I know that little bright-eyed look well. Aren't they just the most endearing little creatures? Thank you for being such a caring gecko parent to Winnie! I think there's a special place in Heaven (or whatever you believe in) for people who help the helpless!
The most affectionate reptile I ever interacted with was strangely enough a green iguana. (Who I took care of in a rescue center as a volunteer. ) Whenever I'd come into her enclosure, she'd just come up to me and cuddle. Loved that girl! 💚
I kept green Iguanas for twenty five years and generally had good experiences with them. One of my males would seek me out if he was loose in the house and followed me around. They have a bad reputation even in the trade but in twenty five years I was only bit three times. The trick was to learn to read the body language and not to try and interact with themif they feel threatened. The only reason I don't have green Iguanas anymore is that the state of Florida has banned keeping them as pets.
If you replace, "love" with "trust", is it any less cool that any animal will be comfortable to hang with a human (literally in some cases)? It still fills me with a sense of awe and wonder
My male rat Edward loves me, my females trust me...😂👍🏻 I agree though every companion animal can be a hang out buddy if given the respect and care they need/deserve. 😊
@@pencilpauli9442 , Rats are the best!! The only two issues are they don't live long enough (2-3 years tops) and the females are prone to mammary cysts which can be VERY expensive to have removed.
I live in florida and talk to the lizards when I’m on my patio smoking cigars and it looked like they were listening to me. I started leaving them water and now the same two lizards come out when I’m on the patio.
Finally some tegu love!!! Also I think they are more like cats. They want affection on their terms. They hiss and arch their back when scared. They love to knock stuff over and climb. They also lift their tail when you scratch above their butt on the base of their tail.
I 100% agree on the spotted pythons! Mine is so much fun to handle; very curious, and like Adam said loves to climb up to the top of my head. And I know this sounds crazy but she also seems to respond to my voice! And when other people are holding her she often tries to get back to me even if the other person is just as warm as I am. I can't explain that sort of thing, but I can say that these are just really intelligent, fun snakes!
I’d like to submit Savannah monitors as “affectionate”. Yes, they get a bad rap, and yes, they are an insane amount of work, but I would t trade my boy for all the money in the world. I have a friend with a female, and she is even more loving than my big boy! Both are rescues and came in through the reptile rescue I volunteer with. We worked very hard with them, and now they are truly scale puppies! I’m happy to send you footage!
I agree. My savannah monitor is by far the most affectionate of my collection, but we have recently discovered it is only with me. He will not even eat for anyone else anymore. As long as I take him out and pass him to the other person he is a perfectly well behaved little boy.
My leopard gecko, no matter the time of day, if I’m in the room and making noise she will come out to see me. And I mean she will come out of her hide and straight to the glass. If I open and put my hand out she will willingly climb on to come hang out. When I put her back she will usually turn around and try to come back out! She’s awesome. My gf even asked if it was normal for them to be so friendly and wanting attention
My crested gecko escaped her cage and when we were watching TV that night she was just chilling under it. Shes skittish at the best of times, but she jumped right onto me. I was so touched. I would have never thought any lizard would come after a taste of freedome.
My Sulcata Tortoise always comes to me whenever he sees me. I never knew how fast a tortoise could move but when I get home from work he bumrushes the fence to come greet me. I know it’s more like “hey it’s the food guy, get em!” But it’s such a joy and feels like love to me 🤷♂️.
hey Adam, I have a suggestion. could you make a list of reptiles that you can take outside? either in a harness or just carrying them around without worrying that I'll lose them? or reptiles that you can maybe keep in a smaller enclosure and bring with you on a week's vacation?
When I worked at a pet store, I often saw people drive with bearded dragons on their shoulder and walk around the store without the beardie moving really changing position.
personally my male ball python is incredibly explorative even whens he's cold, he loves climbing high, he moves slowly unless scared and tends to take his time smelling his surrounding. He would rather not sit on my shoulder, he would rather climb up high and explore, when he gets tired there's a couple areas he likes to go to hunker down and rest but usually he will spends hours just climbing and exploring before deciding its back to bed for him. Once he goes to his areas to rest I usually put him back in his enclosure and he goes right back to his favorite cave to sleep.
I want reptiles so bad :( I’ve been watching your channel (and other ones like clint reptiles) for a while now and I’ve been able to learn so much about reptiles because of you! My parents wont let me get any because they don’t like reptiles and think that our cats will kill them (which i know can be easily avoided by having a proper setup for your reptile) but once i’m able to move out when im older i wanna get a bunch of reptiles (responsibly of course)
Yup, agreed it is good news when you're out on your own you can get anything you want! You do sound responsible and learning about the animals you're interested in is such a good first step. 😊
You are the best CZcamsr ever wicked wickens reptile have a awesome day have a cool day have a absolutely wonderful day good job wicked wickens reptile
I know they're not practical for most people, but I can't help but feel Water Monitors deserve a spot here somewhere. Every water monitor I've interacted with has been so lovely to be around.
I just ended up with two new leopard geckos, and one of them is extremely sociable to the point he comes to the glass and stares until I open the enclosure. As soon as I put my hand out he'll climb onto it. Definitely the most affectionate reptile I've had, and he came to me by accident. My tokay on the other hand prefers his personal space, alot.
Our leopard gecko definately prefers my bf to handle getting him out when he's requesting to come and visit. I'll do the exact same thing and he thinks I don't do it right. I get plenty of croaks and complaints. 😂 Our female ball python comes to the glass door when the light comes on to come out. She is a social butterfly and loves to visit with everyone. She's out little ambassador for someone whose nervous about snakes. Once they meet her we get asked often how she's doing later on.
My leopard gecko, Dot is absolutely affectionate! She's my little buddy. Her enclosure sits right beside my computer. I have a weird schedule and spend almost all night at my computer. Dot has mimicked my schedule because she likes to interact. I talk to her like she's a person sitting with me. I got her as a hatchling and forced myself on her in the form of holding her for a few minutes every night when I fed her. She got used to it and it didn't take too long before she was crawling onto my hand by choice. I've had her for a few years now and she is very well socialized. She responds to her name and will come to me when I call her even outside her enclosure (I let her roam around on my desk...very well supervised, of course). She has a way of telling me when she wants attention. She comes to the front opening of her enclosure and scratches at the door. I reinforce this behavior by always responding some way even if I'm not able or willing to hold her at that moment. As far as other people are concerned, she can be a little shy and hesitant at first, but she warms up very quickly. She's a big mama's girl and is always glad to come back to me where she's most comfortable. I know a lot of her affection can be explained away as habit, but I much prefer to believe that it's love. It certainly is on my part!
Nice to see Spotted Pythons on this list. They're my next snakes. As a former burm and retic keeper I'm loving all I'm hearing about Spotties since I'm in a wheelchair these days and can't effectively care for any of the big guys now.
We had a winter power outage years ago, we actually put our ball python in our blanket under our shirts to keep him warm. I'm talking the whole family took turns, this was when I was a kid and even my mom who was afraid of snakes prior to me getting the dude was in on it. Dude was chill, certainly not ideal but it kept him alive. Kinda interesting to be laying down with a python chilling on your belly.
My roommate had a ball python that would start climbing the corner of the tank that was closest to you when she wanted to be out. She very clearly had a favourite spot on me, which was to be holding onto my neck (I have cold hands, so I assume my wrists weren't as warm as my neck). She had sufficient heating, hides, and space in her tank, she just seemed to like being held (on her terms). Reminded me a lot of the way cats are tbh. She even let me pet her head (would even actively move her head into my finger sometimes) although I know most people say ball pythons don't like that, if she didn't she wouldn't tolerate it (she flinched away when she wasn't in the mood, and I respected that, again reminding me of how cats only want attention on their terms). Snakes are so cool and I think we still have a lot to learn about them! Edit: fixed typo
My crestie took about a year to get used to me, but now he's super affectionate! Happily crawls all over me, watch dinosaur videos with me and will sometimes sit on his perch near the door waiting to get taken out of his enclosure. Cresties take patience, but once they get used to you, they are very sweet!
I have a Pueblan Milksnake who I suppose is about as affectionate as a king/milk snake gets. While he's usually not keen on being handled (he just zips out of your hands most of the time) he does like to people watch in the evenings, we will see him poke his head up and watch us, and doesn't slink away unless you move too fast. And he looooovvvveeeeessss feeding time like all king/milk snakes haha.
I like the stripes but I prefer the mix of green and blue on an iguana iguana. Not to mention the "spikes" on a green iguana just makes them look more dinosaur like. Yes they are big, yes they take time, yes they can cause injuries....but if you can befriend one, they are extremely awarding. :)
About 30 years ago (pre kids), I was looking into getting an iguana. I studied their needs/housing and lifespan, decided against one. How I wish I had gotten one way back then!!! now I feel I'm too old for long life pets (except my 26 year old African Grey parrot who is my baby and in our will, she will go to our youngest son who loves her). I'll always admire green iguanas from afar they really are gorgeous in my eyes. ❤
None of my “affectionate” reptiles - a beardie and two leopard geckos - are “oh, please handle me” sorts. They tolerate my affection for them (well, two of them do… my male leopard gecko is not having any of it). But they are still good pets; they just don’t give much back other than the pleasure I get from interacting with them. I wish I knew what was going on in their heads. ❤
Although not strictly pets, some of the five-lined skinks in our gardens have become very easy to interact with. The largest female comes to us (for food) but then sometimes sits between our feet and closes her eyes, or just chills out beside us. By licking our feet and hands she knows us, but there is also a lot of eye-contact, which is surprising. But there is a great variety in their personalities. A two-year-old male who is just becoming sexually mature, wants to fight me all the time, running up to me, waggling his tail and bobbing furiously. He also sits by us, but to try to show how dominant and unafraid he is. Teenagers!
As always. Great video Our collection just keeps on growing We have two bearded dragons. One we bought the other we adopted from my daughter’s school. My wife and I just rescued two beautiful leopard geckos. Waiting for their new home to arrive. Again thank you for all the information that you share really helps us with taking care of our family 😊
No true affection from our bluey, but we have our special little bonding moments. In the evening I'll plop next to his tank with my laptop and he will come out and watch the screen with me. Heck, its gotten to the point where he will oftentimes be waiting for me in the exact same spot, around the same hours, before I've even installed myself next to his tank. Sometimes he'll start nodding-off after a while, but will stubbornly remain there nonetheless like he wants to keep watching. Its the cutest thing. Only times I ever witness him sleeping out in the open like this is when I'm sitting next to his tank... and that has to mean something, whatever it might be! Our Schneider would probably LIVE permanently on me if she could. She loves to perch atop my head and watch whatever change of scenery I provide by moving around or doing stuff, and once she's tired she'll crawl inside my hoodie and curl up against my neck. I suspect she's just a right mix of clever and opportunistic, and probably sees me as some sort of heat-providing, moving entity that provides her with mental stimulation, lots of climbing/hiding spots, safety and snacks. I can let her run around a room all she wants, and once she's tired she comes right back! Climbs up my arm and goes straight back to the top of my head! No idea if there's anything more to it, but nonetheless it creates a bond of trust on her part and affection on mine.
Love seeing the Antaresia on the list. Any and all of them are just great and I recommend them to all my non reptile friends as probably the best beginner snake or even just reptiles in general.
This will not be a totally popular opinion, but my corn snake is very affectionate! She loves to cuddle up in my arms or lap and will always reach out to my face to flick my nose with her tongue which I call little snake kisses. I can pet the top of her head and she leans into it never diving away. I made sure to handle her regularly from a very young age and it certainly paid off.
My bearded dragon who is still a baby (or juvenile) when I’m gone for a while seems to be very happy to see me. He accidentally bit me when I tried to hand feed him a piece of strawberry and couldn’t get it the first time. I told him I wasn’t mad at him, that I know it was an accident. Also, my friends kids absolutely love him
I am super envious of your Figi iguana! Lol that is what boa keepers call BPs "pet rocks". My Gargs are as calm as any Leo that I have ever owned (used to breed Leos).
An acquaintance took in an injured California King snake she found outside her house one day & kept it as a pet. The little noodle was immediately friendly, & she wondered if it'd been a pet that escaped someone's house nearby, but no one claimed it. She brought it out to meet me when I was over one day. Its reaction on meeting me? It immediately camped out on my head for a good 1/2 hour. Seemed quite happy there. >^.^< Another pal's snake did the same at a party after wandering through the guests like a shoulder highway until it got to me, just curled up like an Egyptian crown and camped out on me noggin. Danger noodles just seem to like my head for some reason. LOL
Hey Adam, great vid mate. How about making a video titled “the perfect reptile (or amphibian) to persuade your other half to give reptiles/amphibians a chance”. I’m sure you can reword it 😂
@@WickensWickedReptiles thanks. I had to persuade my missus to give them a go by making a beautiful bioactive. It worked and now I have Gary the Crested Gecko and she seems to love it 😀
I have a southern flying squirrel, along with my beardie. The two have yet to meet, and they never will. The squirrel is just small enough that my grown male beardie could nom the squirrel.
Our dogs are Mighty Lizard Hunters so when I get my bearded dragon, I will have 3 safety measures in place. The enclosure, in a separate dog free room and a gate.
I grew up with quite a bit of different animals. Because we had Jack Russell terriers, I would grab up the ferrets or skink and them run around in my bedroom, closed off from the other animals, for so much time before I'd move onto letting another little animal out of its cage. My dog just disappointed me. I heard a cat meowing and thought my dilute calico was calling from the kitchen but when I stood up and looked, I saw a kitten. I didn't have to go far my dog and puppy to go towards the kitten and scared the poor thing to go run back out my cat door. I got my dog's shock collar back on him and usually when I make it beep or vibrate he comes back towards me.
Great video!! Unpopular opinion, if you socialise a cbb tokay gecko form a young age and really work with it, they can be EXTREMELY affectionate. My girls will climb down and jump right onto me kinda like a schneider's skink. They’ll eat right from my hands and just kinda chill on my hand or shoulder while I watch tv. Yeah, if you mess up with them the consequences are gonna be a lot more serious than messing up with a leopard gecko, and it’s a lot harder to tame them and they are fast as heck, but wow considering all the bad stuff you hear about Tokays they really can be sweethearts.
My BP will stay put for about 2 minutes before crawling up my head, getting tangled in my chair, checking out the desk... (all the while keeping his tail anchored around a wrist)
Wasn't being contrary or facetious, Just sharing a weird anecdote about my wiggle bum... his tail as an anchor point and he is off.. sorry if it came across differently.
Russian Tortoise interacts with me and that's about it. The geckos, not so much. Crested Gecko's never been properly socialized while Leopard Gecko recognizes me as the bringer of things to eat. He was skittish for the first month, until he associated me with food. Now he's indifferent.
Tame egg eater snakes can be lap snakes too. They enjoy body heat and hanging around and explore too. I feel like egg eaters are only on 2 extremes: they jump around when you approach them or they are cuddle curious noodles
I would say my african fat tailed gecko is kind of similar affectionwise as the leopard gecko I have kept. They aren't as domesticated as the leopard gecko, but still calm and chill. They are so similar, but little of an underrated specie, so still worth mentioning 😄
The issue with dogs is that you usually don't know what they will do to small animals but if I had pet reptile I wouldn't be nervous about her eating it. I've seen how she interacts with small animals in the garden and it is always either "come look there is something small here" and keeps a small distance no biting no licking nothing. The other is once she gets used to the small animals they just chill together like with the small toads in the garden they just peacfully co exist. BUT I only know this because the situations came up where the small animal might have gotten eaten and it's not worth risking that.
I love your leopard geckos name. I have a crested gecko named Petrie, and just the his namesake, he’s a big scaredy cat and doesn’t like handling that much.
The only reptiles I own are all crested geckos! I have three and they all have wildly different personalities… Nubby, my second acquired gecko, is definitely what I would consider affectionate! He loves to come out and play, he will turn around and deliberately climb me, he will sit on my head and hang out, and just generally is so sweet! He is always so calm with me and genuinely seems to enjoy spending time with me! My first acquired gecko, however, hates me SO MUCH, I’ve honestly been thinking about rehoming him. Not because I don’t love him, but because I wonder if a zoo or something would be a better fit for him 😅
Hello!,could you possibly make a care guid on black and white tegu’s,im looking to get one but am still unsure of a few things, such as meals! I would really appreciate it,much thanks-nick
There was a vendor at Tinley in October that was letting his Tegu hang out on his back. It was great. And I get the brumating forever thing. My Giant Day Gecko went into brumation in December. So I have a very nice tank of dirt and a house plant that I somehow haven't killed. I check on him, and he's just happy hiding in his fountain, which is off because that's where he decided to brumate. My temps accidentally dropped for a couple days and now I have dirt. Can't wait for the little guy to come back out.
I have a rosy boa that is very calm and non-flighty (she's a mega sweetheart, okay?) and one of my hognoses feels very safe when I'm holding him and almost exhilarated, like he's going for a ride. Wraps my fingers tight, fast/busy tongue flicks. He willingly approaches the door and will fall out into my hand. Maybe he views me as a potential means for escape and he might actually hate me, but it's adorbz. My other hognose is mean, scary cober. :D I'm a keeper less than a year still. I have four different species. All of them have surprised me with their relatively high intelligence and acute vision (and ability to recognize their keeper). Really cool animals, I've learned so much! I feel like if they willingly approach you and don't behave as if threatened, it might as well be "like". When you like someone, don't you just tolerate them better than other humans? That's how I tend to think of it, scientific basis be damned. :)
Tegus. My Chacoan female is very affectionate. She seeks interaction. The black and white shows up when he wants something. The blue male is a nut. Very flightly but not bitey. But they are a lot of work and do have there own personalities. Do your research!
Even my ball python is affectionate in her own quiet way. She gets excited to see me and gives me boops on my cheeks, sometimes she rubs herself all over my face like a little weirdo. I'm definitely her favorite person. But it's much more subtle than mamnals affection. Some reptiles are much more mammal-like in their affection and trust. She does love watching action anime as well, its her favorite. She'll settle down on my lap, scope and watch several episodes with me.
Haha my Leo is sooo flighty, he likes to come out and hangout and explore, but after a couple minute's he gets nervous and wants to go back in his home lol, sometimes he just will put one hand on mine and look at me for a couple minutes like "hey mom! just wanted to see ya for a sec! can I maybe have a cricket?" and then go back to doing his thing
My bearded dragon shows her affection, My girlfriend can get up before me and get food in her terrarium. But she doesn't come out to eat or even socialize until I get up. Almost as if she waits until she hears my voice in the morning.
another snake smaller than the pygmy snake is the rough green snake, which is actually and amazing beginner snake because it doesn't eat rodents and (big plus) it is absolutely adorable. One thing though is that they are very prone to stress and not very handleable. Could you do a care guide on them? Also (question), do I have to feed my tegu mammals ( mice, rats, eat)? Can they jut eat fish, mealworms fruit, other insects? thxsm for the video, it was so helpful.
Our ball python didn't get the memo lol. When he's out he likes to explore and seldom will just stay and we've had to get a taller encosure and add branches and climbing spots because he lives climbing and periodically spending time up on the ledge we built into his background. He thinks he's semi arborial lol. He's so chilled though. Even my 7 year old nephew handles him with ease.... still...he doesn't know he's a ball python... the only time he's in a ball is when he's chillng in his hide or on his ledge 😂
I’d have put emerald tree skinks in this list Only reptile I’ve ever seen that seems to WANT to be held by their humans and actively look for them in the enclosure
The only thing I have to complain about these videos is how badly they make me want to get these animals and do research and all of that to then get one. One day, one day I'll get there. Lol. If I could right now I would, but sadly don't have the money. So instead of reptiles, I'm going with spiders first and then work my way to some reptiles and maybe even some amphibians too. I love animals and I really, really want to have some of these as pets myself. As animals make me feel good inside and pretty much help me when I'm in my darkest times. And it doesn't have to be an animal that shows affection for me to make me feel better or to crack a smile on my face. They don't have to at all and I'll feel good and happy and better inside.
Its funny when you have no $$ you want all these beautiful critters, when you have the $$ you either have no time, a bunch of kids, no space or are too old to get a critter that might outlive you. I'm 56 and finally have the $$ but don't want long lived pets at this point in life. Spiders!!!!! I had 8 jumpers (just let 4 of my wild caught babies go, its warm enough and plenty of food around I was really just trying to see if I could keep them safe and fed over the winter). I kept my four purchased jumpers and am moving them to nice big pre adult enclosures tomorrow. I would love a tarantula but the females life span is too long for me at this point (I want 3 years or less point). If I could get a male however....👍🏻 I now have 4 praying mantis, 2 hissing cockroaches, 6 dubia roaches (were food for my last praying mantis but she didn't want them so I kept them for pets) and 6 tubs of isopods. 😊 You may want to look into Madagascar hissing cockroaches, they are handleable, cute and easy to feed and home, a ten gallon tank substrate, some climbing branches (my male loves climbing), a couple rocks some cork bark made into a little cave (my female loves hiding under the cork bark). Feed fruits/veggies, spray with warm water daily that's about it, they are fun to keep watch and interact with. 😊
@@charlottesmom Lol yeah I understand the struggle. One day I hope to get at least the few I have in mind as actual pets. Everything probably wouldn't become a pet for me not unless I like had a job that I could work from home and made my own schedule. But that's rare on my end for such a dream. I LOVE Jumping Spiders! I want to own like...so many of them. I love their faces and their little tiny eyes and the way they just look at you is too adore! I can't own a praying mantis. Their extremely endangered where I live and if you are caught k*lling or keeping one as a pet you can be fined or go to jail for a few days. How strict we are on keeping them. Sadly because I think their sooooo cool. I have played with them as a kid and just loved how they would hunt and such. I have held one of those cockroaches before. But the one I held got used to being held so she didn't hiss anymore. I been thinking of owning them as well because their like the few cockroaches I actually like. Crazy right? Most people hate them or try and k*ll them, but Nature was like "We'll make this species people like." Lol.
What species do you think is the most affectionate pet?
Tokay gecko! You can tell they love you by their smile. 😁
goldfish are surprisingly affectionate! they're essentially water puppies.
Yes, they can be very affectionate with their cute faces
Awwww!❤ He missed you, I love this!! 🥰🦎
Did I see Allie make an appearance? I want a tegu. But being bedridden for 8 years and being terminally poorly it wouldn’t be fair or right of me to get one
He suddenly had a new appreciation for you! Lol
I had a tortoise for 30 years that absolutely was affectionate. He was a bit odd in other ways, but he loved to nuzzle every opportunity he could. He ran to me whenever he saw me, and in general was very sociable for a tortoise.
this is so great to hear!
I have a Russian tortie who very much enjoys cuddles in her baby blanket. It's not about heat bc she has that in her enclosure. And if I get busy and don't have time to do that, she often won't eat well until she gets her cuddles.
Totally agree. Tortoises are awesome.
I’ve kept reptiles for over 30 years and have never come across a more affectionate reptile than my common snapping turtle
Profile name and pic checks out ✅️
Having been chased by them as a kid while fishing, that really is surprising
Great job for saving her !
Thank you for giving her such an amazing life.
It still fills me with a sense of awe and wonder
for sure
My male rat Edward loves me, my females trust me...😂👍🏻
I agree though every companion animal can be a hang out buddy if given the respect and care they need/deserve. 😊
@@charlottesmom Aww ❤❤
Rats are bostin!
I've never had them as pets but my daughter and her sister did. They were so cool and cute.
I started leaving them water and now the same two lizards come out when I’m on the patio.
that's so cool!
Finally some tegu love!!! Also I think they are more like cats. They want affection on their terms. They hiss and arch their back when scared. They love to knock stuff over and climb. They also lift their tail when you scratch above their butt on the base of their tail.
It's a cat in a lizard suit haha
I 100% agree on the spotted pythons! Mine is so much fun to handle; very curious, and like Adam said loves to climb up to the top of my head. And I know this sounds crazy but she also seems to respond to my voice! And when other people are holding her she often tries to get back to me even if the other person is just as warm as I am. I can't explain that sort of thing, but I can say that these are just really intelligent, fun snakes!
I may not have one, but I agree with you ! SP's are cool !
I’m happy to send you footage!
please do! :)
@@WickensWickedReptiles how do I send it to you?
I'm sure he loves you for more than food...👍🏻🥰
hey Adam, I have a suggestion. could you make a list of reptiles that you can take outside? either in a harness or just carrying them around without worrying that I'll lose them? or reptiles that you can maybe keep in a smaller enclosure and bring with you on a week's vacation?
When I worked at a pet store, I often saw people drive with bearded dragons on their shoulder and walk around the store without the beardie moving really changing position.
Boas. If you are talking well socialized, they are the original scale puppy. You can just drape them over your shoulder, and they will just chill.
really cool animals
personally my male ball python is incredibly explorative even whens he's cold, he loves climbing high, he moves slowly unless scared and tends to take his time smelling his surrounding.
Figi iguanas are probably one of my dream reptiles, such beautiful animals ❤
Absolutely

I want reptiles so bad :( I’ve been watching your channel (and other ones like clint reptiles) for a while now and I’ve been able to learn so much about reptiles because of you! My parents wont let me get any because they don’t like reptiles and think that our cats will kill them (which i know can be easily avoided by having a proper setup for your reptile) but once i’m able to move out when im older i wanna get a bunch of reptiles (responsibly of course)
this is so great to hear!
Yup, agreed it is good news when you're out on your own you can get anything you want! You do sound responsible and learning about the animals you're interested in is such a good first step. 😊

Thank you so much
I know they're not practical for most people, but I can't help but feel Water Monitors deserve a spot here somewhere. Every water monitor I've interacted with has been so lovely to be around.
I have a three toed box turtle I bought as a baby from my friend in 1996 and he is what I would consider very affectionate!
Our female ball python comes to the glass door when the light comes on to come out.
Ball pythons are ok but their going on food strikes are annoying. They do fit the "affection" label but they can be a pain.
Blue tongued Skinks are awesome and super chill. Cool little buddies 😊
LITTLEFOOT!!!! Finally got to see her again. Great video and certainly good to see the original shoulder cohost.
My Ball Python is INSANELY chill. And he finally ate on Sunday!!😊
I love to hear it
Ahhhhhh!!!! I see the gorgeous Frankie…his cute, Figi Banded Iguana self, and get sooo jealous. Again!
He’s just amazing, Adam!🦎❤️🦎
Although not strictly pets, some of the five-lined skinks in our gardens have become very easy to interact with. The largest female comes to us (for food) but then sometimes sits between our feet and closes her eyes, or just chills out beside us. By licking our feet and hands she knows us, but there is also a lot of eye-contact, which is surprising. But there is a great variety in their personalities. A two-year-old male who is just becoming sexually mature, wants to fight me all the time, running up to me, waggling his tail and bobbing furiously. He also sits by us, but to try to show how dominant and unafraid he is. Teenagers!
I can honestly say this is one of the most informational channels learned a lot since I found it as far as proper care and husbandry thank you
its mind blowing when you post a video related to what we were searching for or talking about recently 😂

This video came out yesterday on my bday and I missed it! Glad I caught it today! Thanks for the upload❤❤❤
Love the Fiji Banded Iguana 🦎 , and your shirt!🤩 *chef kiss* It was great meeting you!
This will not be a totally popular opinion, but my corn snake is very affectionate! She loves to cuddle up in my arms or lap and will always reach out to my face to flick my nose with her tongue which I call little snake kisses. I can pet the top of her head and she leans into it never diving away. I made sure to handle her regularly from a very young age and it certainly paid off.
i always love it when you post new videos!
Twice a week 😄
OMG that iguana is too cute. I had no idea iguanas could be that cute
LOL
You must have snake attracting shampoo! 😂❤
Hey Adam, great vid mate.

I have a southern flying squirrel, along with my beardie. The two have yet to meet, and they never will. The squirrel is just small enough that my grown male beardie could nom the squirrel.
good call!
@@WickensWickedReptiles the flying squirrel is about the size of a gerbil, so wouldn't be difficult, if the squirrel was slipping.
Our dogs are Mighty Lizard Hunters so when I get my bearded dragon, I will have 3 safety measures in place. The enclosure, in a separate dog free room and a gate.
this is wicked
I've had a lot of reptiles. Most were pretty indifferent, but I'm absolutely sure my savannah monitor and my yellow rat snake loved me.
(all the while keeping his tail anchored around a wrist)
wow eh
Wasn't being contrary or facetious, Just sharing a weird anecdote about my wiggle bum... his tail as an anchor point and he is off.. sorry if it came across differently.
Russian Tortoise interacts with me and that's about it. The geckos, not so much. Crested Gecko's never been properly socialized while Leopard Gecko recognizes me as the bringer of things to eat. He was skittish for the first month, until he associated me with food. Now he's indifferent.
very cool!
I jusstt opened this video.. Adam, you looked so proud about frankie being your new host HAHA
Tame egg eater snakes can be lap snakes too. They enjoy body heat and hanging around and explore too. I feel like egg eaters are only on 2 extremes: they jump around when you approach them or they are cuddle curious noodles
These snakes are very difficult to find. Do you breed them or could you recommend where I could get one captive bred or imported?
@@janiceellery1653 Also very difficult to feed if they aren't adults
I would say my african fat tailed gecko is kind of similar affectionwise as the leopard gecko I have kept. They aren't as domesticated as the leopard gecko, but still calm and chill. They are so similar, but little of an underrated specie, so still worth mentioning 😄
Banana Pectinata, or Pied. Both very chill and sociable.
@Wickens Wicked Reptiles i think you should get a Rankins Dragon. I mean they’re small and they’re easy to keep what more can you want.
they sure are cool lizards!
I adore my 3 ball pythons. They're such sweethearts.
My tegu loves attention, he climbs on the couch to sit with me and snuggle 😊,i often find him in my bed too and then i just lay next to him
adorable
My daughters corn snake is super chill and likes to sit coiled up on my belly watching the world go by
Diamond is so affectionate , He Loves nibbling on Adam's ears.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hahaha exactly
Love my Ball pythons for handling but my Corn snakes are more interesting overall. Great list!
Clint's Reptile Room and his emerald tree skinks want to know your location 😂😂
hahaha
I adore Diamond, but Frankie is just soooo cute!
Frankie is a great addition to your collection. I'm glad to see animals I don't see on any other channel.
Can't wait for the little guy to come back out.
the fiji banded is a stunner. Can i keep them in my US jail cell
he's the man!
I'm good for more Frankie videos.
I'm a keeper less than a year still. :)
To be clear, I don't think the hognose is an affectionate species at all (so crabby), but I would give the rosy an honorable mention!
I have neverrrr seen a Frankie! How cute
Frankie is so very handsome. Just rub it in Adam! Lol. They look like such easy keepers. Sad we can't have them.💜
he sure is!
Tegus.
My Chacoan female is very affectionate. She seeks interaction. The black and white shows up when he wants something. The blue male is a nut. Very flightly but not bitey.
But they are a lot of work and do have there own personalities. Do your research!
Little foot has my heart ❤
mine too!
You can bond with a crested gecko too and they will love you.
Giant day gecko don’t like to handled, but I heard they are also ver affectionate 🤗
Love this ty ❤
thanks for watching
Fiji banded iguanas are amazing! Jealous! Iguanas in general are amazing!
Thank you Adam, enjoy your weekend 🍻
Our ball python didn't get the memo lol. When he's out he likes to explore and seldom will just stay and we've had to get a taller encosure and add branches and climbing spots because he lives climbing and periodically spending time up on the ledge we built into his background. He thinks he's semi arborial lol. He's so chilled though. Even my 7 year old nephew handles him with ease.... still...he doesn't know he's a ball python... the only time he's in a ball is when he's chillng in his hide or on his ledge 😂
I’d have put emerald tree skinks in this list
Only reptile I’ve ever seen that seems to WANT to be held by their humans and actively look for them in the enclosure
they are cool skinks
It seems like anything with "emerald tree" in it is super cool. Though the pythons don't seem quite as affectionate as the skinks haha
Great video as always
My leopardgeckos come out when I call them and climb on my hand, even without food. Almost as if they enjoy coming out and being handled 😊
If I could get a male however....👍🏻
I now have 4 praying mantis, 2 hissing cockroaches, 6 dubia roaches (were food for my last praying mantis but she didn't want them so I kept them for pets) and 6 tubs of isopods. 😊
You may want to look into Madagascar hissing cockroaches, they are handleable, cute and easy to feed and home, a ten gallon tank substrate, some climbing branches (my male loves climbing), a couple rocks some cork bark made into a little cave (my female loves hiding under the cork bark).
