    After fussing with the Radiomaster MT12 and not getting it to bind with any FlySky receivers I ordered one of these Dumbos and it's so dang simple I had all my Dumbo receivers bound and trimmed in minutes. Love it!
    Side note: We also use a FlySky GT5 and GT3B which also are intuitive and work perfectly. My son and I often drive RCs at the same time so we keep a few transmitters each with their own assigned trucks.

    I’ve had this radio since it was released. The tension of the wheel/trigger is a pro for me. I have never grabbed a wheel square so the offset is a nonissue, I hadn’t even noticed it until you pointed it out. I have yet to find a radio that has a button layout that I like so I just deal with whatever is given. I do agree about the battery tray F! AA. The battery indicator of my radio does not bounce around so I don’t know what was going on there, possibly junk batteries? I wear a medium glove but in some cases I need a small which is definitely a factor in my comfort of this radio. Personally I would purchase the DDF-350 over anything else in its price point. My current favorite radio is a Dumbo x6pm which is very small.

  • @ZigrePengin
    @ZigrePengin Před 5 měsíci +8

    I have had a DDF350 for a month or two and for the $50ish I paid for it I think its fantastic and frankly for the money I'm not sure there is anything better. I 3d printed adapter for 12mm hex and I slapped a nice grippy road slick on there and I have no problems with ergonomics, the grip is a little slim but I might model up and print a sleeve for it out of TPU eventually. Your battery readout is going crazy because you're using random AA's, with my rechargeable ones it reads properly, also I turned off audio alerts, those got old quick.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 5 měsíci

      For everything the 350 succeeds at, it fails at another. I'm not here to accommodate a radio. Everyone's experience is different, but this one is absolutely not for me.

      I can understand that, as a guy with more than a few rigs with dumbo reciever/light combos and 2 fully equipped trx4's this is most definitely for me. As always we the viewers appreciate your thorough reviews greatly.
      Have you seen the aliexpress Dravtech knock offs, any plans to quick/junkview them? For $14 a pair I have been tempted to buy some but haven't clicked the button

    • @anon556
      @anon556 Před 5 měsíci

      Rc6gs is better for the same price 🤷‍♂️ really depends what vehicles you have and which receivers work best for your situation. The radios are functionally the same except being 10 vs 7 channel. I've never seen an RC that was not a plane that needs 7 channels. Therefore the deciding factor comes down to receiver size and the R4FGM is much smaller than any dumbo offering.

    Klunkily simplistic as Dumbo's have always been and a great budget choice if we lived in some kind of parallel universe where radiolink didn't exist. I have 3 dumbos and they're fine for starting out or bashing where you could risk dropping it in mud or a friend lands his kraton 8s on it . Thanks Derrick 😅

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The cheap Dumbos like the X6 has always given off a strong "included with an RTR" vibe. They will definitely do the job, but for any situations other than what you've described, I genuinely tell people to just spend the extra 20 bucks.

    I thank you for your opinion (obviously or I wouldn't have sent it). My reason for purchase was because I have 4 rigs that came with the RTR 6chnnl Dumbo radios, but also use their light controllers. So, I these rigs are TRX4 adjacent in that they have locking diffs, 2 speed and also the Dumbo fancy light controller. So you need a fair amount of channels...and then there are the lights and winch. I've never owned a metal wheel (and never heard mention of one) so I thought it would be a good thing to try out. I think my rigs will love it, but my child-sized hands will not. We live and learn. Also, I do own Radiolink Trans/rec and love them, but they won't work with the light controllers I have on some rigs. Thanks for the great review!

      There are folks at my local RC track that buy the fancy Scale Reflex AL wheels and love them. You may like it and you may not. I got a Yeah Racing one for a transmitter and ended up adding a foam ring from Jconcepts. A 2-pack is $5.99 and feels great (JCO3241)

  • @Andy_Yates
    @Andy_Yates Před 5 měsíci +1

    Let your elbows rest at your sides and straighten out your wrists. Angle your forearms toward your center and that angled steering wheel is now more aligned with your steering hand. I use the angled wheel on my 10px and I love it. It lets me keep my arms close to my body so they're supported during a race or while drifting. I have a bad habit of going all claw handed and contorted over time if I'm not conscious of how I'm holding the tx
    Regarding winching ability. I learned the hard way I need a momentary toggle for my winch. In the moment of a comp, I broke my hook and got the line all knotted up by missing the middle detent on a slider switch. If your drag brake is strong enough, you really want to be able to creep with a little throttle and have steering control while you winch.
    Lastly, that's a deep cut quoting Mr Horse. I still say that in reference to that old episode. I have no idea why that quote of quotes stuck with me for so long

  • @Tyrells_Tiny_Trucks
    @Tyrells_Tiny_Trucks Před 5 měsíci

    2s lipos come in some very small sizes that would simply have to fit anywhere that those AAs would. I have been using the XTAR Li-ion AAs in some finicky transmitters, as recommended by AMPRO Egineering, and they are great. They run at 1.5V like regular alkaline AAs instead of thw 1.2V of other rechargeables, which alleviates issues with my DX5 rugged. One could argue that owning a DX5 rugged IS the issue.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 5 měsíci

      I have two radios that are confined to AA use (molded trays) and it still irritates me. There's no reason. If you dare to put a USB-C port on the side of your transmitter, that battery tray had better have 18650s in it.
      I've made my feelings clear about Spektrum electronics (of all types) in the past. I contend that no one has screwed up a scroll/click wheel worse than Spektrum.

    I can't answer any of the questions. I have one of the older DumboRC radios and haven't bought another. It's ok, but just ok.
    I must be insensible to poor ergonomics. You've said the Ldarc CT01 steering is too heavy, and I don't mind it at all. It's my favorite radio when I'm trailing because it's the only one I can use one handed.
    I wish I could source the RC4WD RtR radios cheap. EPA with good ol pots, no menus to mess with. I'd use the hell out of those on 2 channel trucks.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 5 měsíci

      The RC8X is the radio I classify as "too much." It is basically 95% want and 5% need. It's not a radio I'd ever recommend to anyone here-- it's far too expensive for what we do. While it's not the same $$$$ as anything from Futaba, etc, but still. We don't need ultra-low latency or +600m range. If you're gonna get into something like speed running, then go for it-- a $300 radio won't faze you anymore. Those guys will go through $100 worth of tires in an afternoon.

    Hi, I have the radio from mid October and its solid piece. I. Using it with AA 2450mah ikea Ladda bateries and charged them maybe 3 times from then. Being 2 weeks on holiday and used the controler every day for hour or thwo and even in -15C and battery dropped from 65% to 40% on end of my holiday. Angle of the weel its very comfortable for me as I nearly never holding radio front of me on right angle. My gripes are battery curve could be better for rechargeable AA batteries as they have big drop after initial charge then hold stable voltage for while.second minus point its for 3 position swith cant be programmed on two channels to operate the lock differentials on one swith. I can't complaint as if you compared with other RTR radios from Traxxas, HB or Wltoys are absolute garbage. I using it with 2x 1/18 crawlers some 2x 1/10 crawler and 1/12 buggy basher. Also receivers are quite nice also with ligh module and gyro integrated for wery affordable price. I hope some more firmware will iron out the issues with menu and settings in future.

    Can you really only connect a single pair of LEDs to the X10FG?
    That's a bit small, to say the least, isn't it?
    That's not even enough for the front light and rear light 🧐
    I don't want additional switches. I also need all the other slots/channels.
    Couldn't I connect a total of 8 LEDs with 3 Y-cables (4x at the front (white) and 4x at the back (red) and then switch them on and off?
    That would be enough for me.
    Or is one slot on the receiver overloaded?

      Radiolink RC4GS. amzn.to/3UdsuJo. Is it my favorite radio of all time? No. That goes to the vintage Sanwa M8. But of the current crop, it's the RC4 by a fair margin, and the pricetag doesn't hurt. If you're in one of those rare instances that require more than 5 channels, get an RC6GS amzn.to/3vLKK2v

      I just didn't like the ergonomics. Everyone else is fine with the DDF. So my response would be filled with personal bias, in which I think the RC6GS is the better choice purely from an ergonomic standpoint. Though I will say that unbiased, the RC6 with it's 3-position mechanical switches is the optimal choice for TRX-4, as it puts the lockers within easy reach. Everything I have with lockers is on an RC6.

    Tank mixing, winch, remapping. Everthink is in this radio. They also work with firmware upgrade. In 1.0.9 software they add cruise mode. If you use gyro, lights, fan for cooling. 4 channels for light control emergency light, head light with 3 position switch, blinker lights. 10 channel for me is right. For this price? Best. I disassembly radio for look how itd made. In my opinion (i work with electronic devices) is well made. Good quality of electronic. MH2103A uC have potential. Receiver isnt waterproof but I use silicone mask (paint) and it works under water now. Ergonomic of trigger and wheel would be better.. I dont like metal wheel and trigger position should be adjustable. Big minus for battery slot.. Cut out some plastic and lipo should fit 🤣

      In cycling, we have three contact points: bars, saddle, and pedals. For people that use MTB-style clips, the Shimano M520 is ever popular. Cheap, adjustable, available everywhere. I don't like 'em. Never have. I don't like the feel of the clip, I don't like the release angle, I don't like much about them except for the price. I dislike Crank Brothers even more, to a borderline hate. So I have to comb the internet for NOS Look S-Tracks, which are the pedal I love above all others.
      So when I took the 350 out of the box, and felt the anemic grip, bad balance, metal knob, terrible wheel tension... it's Shimano 520s. Somebody is gonna use this radio and never be bothered. Re-analogizing: if you ride a bike 10 miles a month, your saddle and handlebar choice basically make no difference. You can use literally whatever. If you ride 200 miles a week, suddenly, things become more critical. I use radios nearly every day, usually for hours at a time. The 350 is invited to the party. Which is a damn shame, because the software and display are pretty damn good. But the physical interface is, to my hands, repulsive.

      If all you're going to do is nitpick a review on the internet, maybe you should find a first hobby. I'm going to go ahead and guess that I've held more radios in my time than you have, so you can kick back with your small sample size and like what you like. I don't like the ergonomics of the 350, and you trying to claim that's some sort of weakness on my part is ignorance on yours.

      LOL. Any "argument" that uses a Spektrum radio as point of comparison is automatically invalid. Spektrum makes garbage radios for the RTR crowd. Their "top of the line" pistol grip radios get out-featured by $60 radios. They can't even get a scroll wheel right.
