I remember meeting JR down in Galax VA way back in the day. I begged my mom and dad to let me go. I was really young and couldn't wait to see you. It was the best time in my life. JR made my day shook my hand and gave me a autograph and let me look inside ol Bulldog. One of the best moments of my childhood. Hats off to a legend! Thanks JR! Always loved you and Buckeye Bulldog!!
I went to that pull two years in a row several years ago myself and saw this guy pull, it was a good time, my favorite class though was the 5-6 engined unlimited modifieds.
J.R. Collins was one the nicest guys I ever had the pleasure of meeting. Him and the rest of guys used to come up here to Vermont at champlain valley fair on labor day. I had a visit with J.R. one time and learned as much about buckeye bulldog as he would share.
I met Jr Collins at Connersville Indiana at the thunder in the park pull over labor day years ago ! I asked him a few questions about the bulldog because at the time I was driving a pretty badass 84 R model Mack myself ! He was so happy to tell me about his truck ! I could tell he loved what he was doing !!! What a shame about the pulling world loosing Jr . You will be missed ! And thank you for taking the time just to shoot the shit years ago !!!!
Jr and Killer a legend,I grew up in northeast Ohio just 20 miles from Thompson,I can remember that truck when it was under development coming to Thompson drag raceway on Wednesday night grudge racing It would about stall on the starting line as he dumped the clutch in a higher gear only to pop off a 15 sec run near 100 mpg through the traps with 8 inch stacks coal black. I believe it had 4 turbos by the end of it use.
Who'd a thought a chance exhibition pull with his working truck turned this guy from northeast Ohio into a world known name. We all knew him by his C,B.handle as Wheelbarrow.
