rocz, that thing your mom described is called hilltopping, and it killed four members of my high school class
Did anybody else pause the video to snoop through Mr rosniacks desktop I counted 9 separate icons labeled new folder god I love these fools
My mother had a Ford Pinto. And yes, it did meet a fiery death, but not from the back. Her boyfriend at the time had tried to change the oil and evidently made an absolute pig's breakfast of the job because while stopped at a stop sign, she noticed flames licking out from under the hood. Luckily, she had plenty of time to get out, but the car was ruined. Needless to say, that boyfriend didn't last long.
It's true what some folks say: The Ford Pinto was not named after a small horse. It was named after a bean.
As a german and cursed special interest car girl, I really think the VW Golf Country 4x4 was the coolest car sold in germany when I was really smol (90's)
I love that the estate version is painted in the colours of the Spanish republic, the once and future republic.
My uncle had a Levis gremlin in the 70s and my mom said the Jean material had rivets in it too and in the summer they would get hot when you parked the car and burn the hell out of your legs
I am beyond thrilled for this episode. I rode in a powder blue Pinto as a kid back in the day, and experienced "Am I having fun, or am I scared" feeling the whole time.
I would also love to have a car upholstered in denim, that sounds rad.
I'd take denim over leather any day! No sticking to denim when it's hot and humid.
Denim would be awesome! Though the old VW with cow print funfur on the seats that I learned to drive on was pretty cool too.
The car in the thumbnail: Perfection. No notes.
I think listening to this podcast is like listening to the STEM-field edition, uncut version of drunk history sketches. I enjoy it tremendously.
Imagining Gene's Gremlin as a drag king persona now. Mullet, goatee, all denim. Hell yeah dude
A whole aftershow explaining that one joke from Top Secret to anyone under the age of 30, you spoil us!
Used to own a Pinto, a '79 wagon - which was not one of the 'splodey ones, but I never got tailgated by anyone over 40. Really miss that car some days.
Thumbnail Pinto is beautiful. It's so nice I might risk immolation to drive it
I would love to hear an episode on various EPA regulations backfiring! Regulations affect engineering systemically, and can cause far more damage than a single major collapse.
This FELT like an entire episode even though it was just a preview lol
The back and forth reminded me of a disiplinary meeting where a colleague had whinged to management about me. When they were listing off the things I was meant to have done to him I asked 'and did I shit his pants, too?'.
The awkward boot lid on the early Pinto wasn't unique. The Austin Allegro had the same awful layout.
I've been to Beuna Vista, VA. It does indeed have some crazy hills.

TIL that there was a Ford Pinto STATION WAGON, and this 53 y/o's life is just a little bit sadder for that knowledge... but now I do believe I did indeed see one of these way back when, but have blocked it out, as it is truly a frightening image.
Girlfriend had a pinto, damn thing sounded like Jetsons car. Even farther back was a Ford Pinto wood paneled station wagon bought fot $106.50. Back doors welded shut and radiator needed patching almost daily. Good memories 😂
gentlemen and ladies, you're making your brazilian listeners VERY happy
The first car I ever drove regularly was a silver Pontiac Astre station wagon with a manual transmission (that I took my driving test in). The Astre was the Pontiac version of the Vega, the GM version of the Pinto. I later destroyed the car by slamming into a suddenly appearing island on F street after a show at the (old) 9:30 club in DC. Love you guys. Thanks!
4:57. This is the lords truth right here. Hatchbacks are the best and I cannot be convinced otherwise
Hatchbacks all have divorced 70's dad energy. And the denim seats just add to that.
2:57 The Denim Gremlin was copied by Volkswagen for their 1974 line of "Special Edition" Beetles where the cars had slightly different interiors and rally trim running along the bottom of the door to the rear fender. A Jeans Beetle was the 1200 cc basic car in yellow or blue with jeans seats and the rally stripe, any of the extras were the standard extras depending on where the car was sold. They also did a "Big Beetle" and "City Beetle" for the variants of Superbeetle, each with separate color schemes and custom seats. They relied on these gimmicks because West Germans were sick of the Beetle by the 1970s, but business was booming from Canada to Argentina (and across Europe still, and parts of Africa) and so they had to stick with it until the first Golf cars came out in 1977 (Americans know that car as the Rabbit.)
EPA regulations that backfired, OH BOY, let's discuss RCRA and its impacts on petroleum remediation and brownfields reutilization! Then there's the whole resultant "Contained In" policy, which is basically an unofficial policy of sticking fingers in ears and humming loudly to avoid RCRA derailing cleanups, and oh yeah, is also officially the unofficial policy in all 50 states! Rocz, I NEED that episode, and I'll sign up for the Patreon if you make it!
the desktop icons made me scream in horror. even my gamer dad can't beat that.
I like this.
Question: is the Cybertruck the modern Pinto?
@@Frisco1355 ^This. The Pinto was a car that looked great, that was unexpectedly dangerous. She cleaned up well, even if she was still a mess inside.
The Cybertruck was always seen as a dangerous joke. Time has only revealed new layers of failure we kind of already suspected. He's a slob that shows up in a stained t-shirt, drunk.
I think Victoria pointed out in the EV episode that the Tesla Model 3 has killed more people in fires than the Pinto, with less total vehicles produced. The Model 3 has burned two more people to death than the Pinto (42 to 40 respectively) , while there are 500,000 less Model 3s produced.
I think the Cybertruck has the potential to rapidly take the top spot if we include people testing the 'bulletproof' materials.
I'm guessing y'all know the lithium ion battery burns way hotter than a gasoline-powered car? And is much harder to put out?
...I'm really hoping battery technology improves-I read something about _water-based_ batteries being in development.
Unfortunately, the internal corrosion problems with the water-based batteries aren't worked out.
From poop plane to poop car apparently
Shouldve done this with Pennsylvania adjacent youtube channel Regular Car Reviews :( Brian and Nick wouldve been great on this episode
I think Liam's even referenced RCR a couple times. A collab between the two would be great!
Still safer than a tesla
Congrats to Pinto for finally passing the Torch to Tesla
Easy livin'. Yes, please. If this Pinto's rockin'...come on in, we got room for you, too.
For Victoria:
Chino, California--2006. An estate sale parked in old town Chino for $1650...a '72 Gremlin, racing green with a navy blue offset racing stripe from front to back and the Levi's interior. 38k on the odometer...
I begged any and all adults around me to co-sign, but to no avail...
I don't know if this is related or if it was just because 70s, but Zenith used to sell a shitty little B&W portable television wrapped in Levis denim.
Yay Rocz mom!
I never want to hear a story from my mother that starts with, did I tell you about the time I was in the backseat of a car?
Around 1990 they made a Peugeot 205 Junior Jeans with denim seats. It came on the cheapest configuration with the shitiest engine because it was marketed toward "the youth".
Shoutout to Justin’s mom with her Dukes of Hazzard story
:( having banking issues due to adhd, and whatever account Patrion was pulling from has either died or been canceled by husband, (he is the only reason we still have the passwords to literally any accounts) so this'll be the first one I've missed in several years.
Got all excited to see it post, then remembered. I 😥
Love the 'Go-Fast' stripes...!
Woohoo!!!! Grew up in one of these 😂
Fuck i want a Denim Gremlin so bad now.
Dremlin I'm dying
Orange, brown and goldenrod -- the colours of 1970s sexy!
First car I ever drove was a pinto wagon. I was 8.
God, those old striped paint jobs FUCKED. Rocz is right, we used to be a real country.
Available with a V6, 4 speed manual, 4 wheel discs... in an economy car? Same as the Malaistang but LIGHTER... what was the problem again?
...Can we get links to the articles mentioned at 10:20? Those sound very interesting and I would like to read them!
I'd hate to see what Roz's actual, physical desk looks like...
On further inspection, I like how the flagpole in the background image is used as a dam of sorts. Well played.
No joke, car companies need to bring back the practical sports hatch, fuck these fugly SUVS that drive as good as they look
hey we have a Thrill Hill here in Westchester NY !
I still drive a Pinto (I drive fast so getting rear-ended is unlikely)
Donated its engine block to Cosworth to become the Sierra RS500, the greatest touring car of all time. All the power of NASCAR at that time, with half a tonne less weight.
Nice, I've bean looking forward to this one.
5:55 for a brief moment Devon considered a much much larger font size
Everyone watching this should also listen to the You're Wrong About episode on the same subject.
I’m ready for some easy living!
was Nick Roman too busy to appear on this episode? the pinto seems like his jam
Brian vs WTYP in a hyperbolic fantasy madlibs session could be very entertaining.
YES! HA HA
HA... *_YES!_*
BUENA VISTA MENTIONED
Whenever I talk about how I got hit by a car by a drunk and got my teeth knocked out when I was a kid, I try to describe the car that hit me. The Pinto in the thumbnail is that car. Pinto wagon with a portal window on the side.
will it be put on the playlist?
I want a car with a port hole too
god damn I gotta get the patreon for this one
The bumpers on the one with the stripe looks like its been stolen from a TNT sprinter, so big!
was the wagon technically a shooting brake?
It looks like a Volvo 740
Hell yeah
So when are you just going to start the car engineering podcast with Victoria
the VW Bundy
This was also my Delta Tau Chi name.
Now do the AMC Pacer.
I can’t wait to not pay for this 😊
My first car was one of those.
hell yeah, more Victoria
sorry but can we have a short listen to Fonki cheff.
Since we were poor on the 80s my dad had an orange Ford Pinto that I was embarrassed to be seen in?
I find the Pinto design charming, is the car practical was there decent room in the back seat?
I didn't think it was possible to sexually harass a car.
Trans siberian railroad simulator isn't even out yet.

Kudos to a Pro Cat Podcast! All hail our furry overlords!
Wondering if the trial for the Dunlap, Indiana crash is to be addressed [edit: yes, thank you Alice. Ford v. Indiana] I never quite got over that verdict, 3 young girls burned to death and our community's EMS personnel were traumatized. I'm rolling a few emotional support doobs as I begin the Patreon episode (thanks for justifying my membership in one fell swoop, guys). Also scoping out some sedatives, as should I even hear the name James Neal I *will* hulk the fuck out, all these years later. That is how intensely I feel this one.
Boogie nights
Haven't watched/listened yet but do we get more Nova + Victoria flirtation action?
Look at that Desktop, Jesus Christ! How??? HOW!!! Right, two things besides the blatantly obvious abomination of the shortcut management, one, you can move the search bar and everything to the left like it's supposed to be if you do a quick Google search, and two, how can you see anything with such a busy contrasty wallpaper picture?
Bean Car
I demand the epa episode
Mods help. It's not in the youtube playlist mods help
Hi WTYP, whats wrong with the car? A lot of things explode when you hit it from behind? 🧐
Doors were known to fly off in accidents too. Free air conditioning!

First? Edit: nope.
The phrase "twitter DM from my Mom" just does not compute

My grandma had a Pinto at one point, grandpa was a doctor in private practice at this point and she drove over to visit him. She parked in a parking garage full of luxury cars befitting private practice doctors trying to one-up each other, when she came back to go home her car was stolen.
Goes to show which car was worth the trouble.
