    Hidilyn Diaz has become the first Olympic gold medalist from the Philippines after winning the women’s 55-kilogram weightlifting category at the #Tokyo2020 Summer Olympics. Diaz overtook Chinese Liao Qiuyun on her last lift in the clean and jerk to win with a total of 224 kilograms, one more than Liao.
    The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games took place in Japan, from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021.

    This is one of the main highlight for me of Olympics 2020 along with Neeraj winning the Javelin Gold. This medal is start of an era of Philippines dominance for the years to come. This is not a medal but an inspiration to millions. Love to Philippines from India.

      Thank you Amit. Hidilyn works so hard and she was persistent in her training during the pandemic. She even just used improvised lift with gallons of water and sandbags. And now her hardships and sacrifices finally paid off. I also watched Neeraj winning performance in the javelin. HIstoric win for India also in the athletics. Congratulations!

    On the podium, Diaz instantly made friends with the Kazakh as they raise their respective medals in response to the organizer's signal while the Chinese, obviously in dismay, didn't bother to hold hers. She was indeed so complacent she'll win the gold.

      @@mahadersabiran6286 well the truth is, and as far as i know about our history, many of the filipinos descended from the Indonesians who were considered as the first settlers in our country, who were seafarers and came in big balanghays. I believe that's one reason why you'll find many of our words and even the people themselves are similar to indonesians. Countless times I've mistaken indonesians here in saudi arabia as filipinos and the feeling i have for them are somewhat like close to a compatriot:)

    You can really see Filipino's positivity in this competition. Hidilyn was always positive and smiling in every attempt. You hurt yourself during the third lift but you still got the gold. What a champion. Congratulations!

    I am happy that Philippines won gold. Despite the lack of weightlifting infrastructures, she trained and persevered with whatever facilities she had. She is a perfect example of grit, determination and perseverance.

      Thank you brothers and sisters from Malaysia. To those who didn’t know hidilyn stayed in Malaysia for almost a year because of the lockdown. They didn’t know where to go that time until a Malaysian family welcomed her and her team in their home. I saw an interview where the guy told the reporter that they treated hidilyn like their own family. He also said that when hidilyn won gold it feels like their they won gold also. That's why sometimes u would see some of our athletes including Hidilyn Diaz begging or soliciting for additional support from some private individuals & sectors in d past bcoz they are not getting enough support from the Philippine government. However, with our recent success in the Tokyo Olympics, i hope that will change now.

    I watched a documentary about her. I am pretty sure that her very first coach was very happy for her. Her Chinese coach being so happy for her made me so emotional. Of course, kudos to all her coaches, assistants and especially to her! May you always be healthy and happy.

      @@Gossbert Sometimes it was all on strategy. It was letting China lift first and go one kilo higher always regardless of weight. If you are really into weighlifting you will see the coaches scrambling on one table changing the lifter's posted weight depending on the situation. Nothing bad on what JDRN said just need to broaden mind sometimes.
