  • Today, on day 4 of our barn house bathroom renovation, we started installing the new shower pan. We immediately ran into problems with the drain, so we had to cut open the subfloor to rebuild the pvc pipes shorter. Lots of head scratching and more Menards shopping happened today.

    I appreciate these daily progress reports. From my personal experience, nothing in home improvement is every straightforward...always a lot of trips to home improvement, frustration and 3 x's the time. Look forward to the finished project.

      It's been a while since we did such a major renovation and I kinda forgot about all the trips to the store and the issues that seem to always pop up on the "easy" projects . haha

      I wasn't sure if anyone actually wanted to watch me fumble my way through a bathroom renovation, but I decided to try to do daily videos on it anyway. Thanks for watching them!

      I think I'll be with Miriam on that one. I love watching videos like this and see what other people come up with. I can't begin to tell you what I rake away from the stuff I see on youtube and on Pinterest. The DIY videos are my favorite. I can almost get atleast 1 thing from each video that can work for me for something I can do around my house or as a project. Hopefully you will find other thing to do to make more series of videos like these.

    I'm loving this series of videos. It's great to see you problem solve along the way and tackle all the issues that come up. it's given me confidence to just go for it because there's always a solution to be found. Good luck with the rest. I love your other videos too - always super informative and inspiring. keep up the fab work ;-)

      Thanks. Yeah, I recommend watching & reading lots of diy tutorials to get a good idea of what you need to do. It's all fixable, even if you don't know how to fix it at first.

    Feeling your pain. Never works out as easy as ya think. How close is Menards to your house? Hopefully not too much of a drive. The staff probably knows you well by now. I know most of the cashiers at my local Lowes. lol.

    • @MrDiyDork
      @MrDiyDork  Před 7 lety

      It's only about 10 minutes away, so it's not too bad. Some of the staff definitely knows me. I sometimes try to avoid using the same cashier on the multi-trip days to make it less awkward. lol

    Are you familiar with Sketchup? (I am not, I know that it exists, but I've never worked with it, so I do not know the (im)possibilities
    of the program.)
    Some (many) woodworkers use it for making cabinets and even planning rooms. I wonder if you can use the program also for
    piping. In that case you can do things in advance on the computer to make it fit. (I stopped this video at 7.22 after you mentioned
    the "point of no return", when you were about to cut the old waste water piping.

    • @MrDiyDork
      @MrDiyDork  Před 7 lety

      I've used sketchup in the past. I'm sure you could draw out piping too. I just took likes of pictures and used those to help me find parts to rebuild it at the store.
