Like most everyone else has said, it simply doesn't get any better than this! This kind of performance is what it was all about. Energy. Sweat. Tight. Smokin'. Explosive.
I am with you all the way. I have been a Kiss fan since 1979. And as a black kid who listened to Kiss, Van Halen and The Rolling Stones I was the odd duck. But as time progressed I found that more and more '(rock) brothers' were with and without colour. Bless!
This is the moment that changed my life, when I saw this as a little kid on Midnight Special. Blew me away. Took up guitar, jammed in bands ever since.
Those were the days...raw in your face Rock n Roll of the 70's and because of that song in particular, picked up guitar, wanted to be the next “Ace”, but sadly after years of lessons and countless hours in garage it left me relegated to being one of the best “air” guitarist, ever…Thanks KISS
I was 14 when this aired, I was hooked on Kiss that night. I had never seen anybody rock out like this. I remember when Gene and Paul did that thing facing each other and rocking side to side I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I finally saw them live for the first time last Tuesday. Despite being between 57 and 64 they rocked like crazy. Best concert I have ever been to.
I totally agree. Born in '59. So glad to have been a teen in the '70's. I saw AC/DC open for Savoy Brown at a venue that held about 800 people when Let There Be Rock came out. Angus on Bon Scott's shoulders going up the aisles and riffing like a madman. Those were the days. Kiss, Rush, Zeppelin, BeBop Deluxe. Music will never be as good again.
Gene's yell is just intense! I love the way they synchronize dance towards the end, Gene and Paul then they face Ace while he's finishing up the solo and Ace joins them and they do that freaky cool KISS Deuce Dance! Just fucking love that.
I remember watching the original telecast of this....a proud 9-yr old member of the Kiss Army (yeah, my older brothers started me early). Saw the original lineup on the 2000 reunion tour and it kicked my ass as much as the very first time I ever heard them.
Watching this for the 15th time and it never gets old. I remember this night. I waited for this show with anticipation like no other. Sitting in front of that TV, watching them for the first time was magical.
You know your man is working hard....he's worth a deuce...classic verse...first concert ever Kiss Alive Tour April 1975 Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto Canada...kick ass rockin' roll...especially when you knew every word in every song!
I saw KISS like 6 times before 1980.... The first time I saw them was during this era as they were an opening act in concert. They did rock at that time.
I saw this performance when I was like 14 years old on the midnight special . KISS may not have been the best musicians but man did they put on a show ! I saw them 6 times by 1980 . As a result of this performance I bought KISS ALIVE !
I agree.... I loved KISS as a kid. I wanted to play guitar so bad. As I got older I got "over" KISS but ended up being a life long professional musician.
Ace Frehley was one of the best guitarists of the day. His solo's are incredible. I remember watching this performance on TV back then. couldnt get enough Kiss...
This just might be my favorite Kiss clip of all time......possibly tied only by "Deuce" from the 1975 San Francisco Winterland show. I've often thought that this song's live performance was at least partially responsible for launching the 80s metal scene.
Gemma we met Ace and Paul in Toronto,Canada where I reside and really, they were super to us,now that we are all old 'dudes' and what not...grerat to mature and just rap like old dudes...luv on ya this holiday Season! J
WOW. How awesome was that????? The audience was like DAMN !!!! Ace......fierce. Gene...demonic and powerful....Paul..struttin' and posin' Peter..jammin' KISS ROCKS !!!!
I saw them 5 times prior to theat ridiculous'off with the facepaint' era...had my med school, wife n kids then...But man, when went to see them at that P.Circus ,with the old Love Gun stage setup...man o man ,they were happy, tight, tight and tighter...what acv reminder of live in beautiful Toronto,Canada with Gene n the boys...Shannon has a really nice condo here in Toronto, thats usually where they shack up when they come into our fair city...Best to all!!!!KIIIISSS!!!
In KISS BEHIND THE MASK, Paul Stanley says "Sean Delaney was a creative dynamo who was an important part of the early team. he was responsible single handedly for taking a move that we did and by repeating it in the show, it became the signature classic KISS side to side movement". See that move at 2:46!!
@blacksabbathish Gee whiz, blacksabbathish. You hit the nail on the head. Well written. And the best part for me is at about 3 minutes when all 3 are doing the undoubtedly trademarked KISS moves. It was Midnight alright and even more special than we knew then.
all a campy, fun, cheek n tongue showmanship....still goin strong, and what the fuck, let 'em...seen 'em over 15 times and they really always got better, but refused to see them without the face paste...refused to see them with ANYONE else, other than the original crew.KISS ...always in my heart of memories.
KISS @ their best. After Dressed To Kill they REALLY became cartoonish. The first three albums are absolute classics. I (at 15 years old) saw them open for Black Sabbath in 1975 and they completely stole the show.
That's why we still revere it. Think anyone 37 years from now will give a damn about those fly by night shows like american idol? My guess is no. This song is still the best Kiss ever did as far as I'm concerned, brutal as hell, that is if this was your intro to heavy metal (it's pretty well out there that I did steal Kiss Alive 1 from my sis, and fuck everything that came before, nothing compared). Love this, thanks big fucking time for posting it.
1970's rock n roll kicked major ass. Ace Freely was unreal. He was pulled over where I grew up doing well over 100 mph in his Ferrari....rock star cliche moment for sure, but man he could play.
Its funny how' Family guy' have so many KISS references. Killer guitar in this song. KISS rules.I rocked this record to death in 75'. People underestimate just how heavy this band is.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the original band members for not appreciating their music before now. I realize now that I should have been a true fan 35 years ago when everyone else was, and for that I'm regretful. Although I still don't care for most of the stuff from 1985 onward, it must be reitterated that in the seventies, KISS was the greatest rock and roll band on Earth.
Nice man I was 5 years old when these guys got back together and my Dad wanted to take me with him to see KISS in Cincinnati Ohio at Riverbend My Mom wouldn't let him take me I was so angry at My Mom.. My Dad still wishes to this day that he should have taken me anyway lol I never got to see KISS in Concert and the way the KISS Line-up is now I wouldn't go see them I only want to see the original Band Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace
Dude Im 39 and I was 2y/o when they dropped their Dressed to Kill album, and I was hooked since then. As for being one of the "only black kiss fans", you are so wrong bro. Kiss has many many fans who are minorities. Being a black man myself I speak from experience when I tell you that across the globe there are countless of us who are loyal fans and proud members of the Kiss Army! Go to a Kiss show or any for that matter and you'll see my point. Much love and respect and God bless!
Holy Crap! Where did you find this footage! This is the first time I saw Kiss...ever. I woke up in the middle of the night sometime back in '74 or '75 with the T.V. on...and there they were. I freaked out and was glued to the set! This is the first time seeing this footage since that time! I bought the Kissology vol. 1 set hoping it was in there, and it wasn't!!!! Now that I see this was uploaded back in '07...Where the hell have I been! Thanks for posting this iconic performance.
@barmtrail Totally original!! And these early clips remind me of why I got into them in the first place, SO MUCH ENERGY and STAGE presence!! I'm a few years behind you, I never saw them until 82 unfortunately, but they were still pretty good. I'd give my left arm to see them back in 74-75. Over the years they toured with UFO, Sabbath, Rush, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith you name it. Who opened up for them in 74? I also agree, Simmons has turned KISS into TOO much of a business! Rock on bro..thx!
I never really grabbed on to the kiss train, couple of my brothers did..I was into Zeppelin..one brother was into Kiss and we argued and had stereo wars (1975) I definitely appreciate what Kiss did , you had to take notice,I cant help but watch the early stuff, would never buy it though...
Bless!
It never mattered what color you are, music doesn’t know color. Stay true to yourself and never let go.
First saw them in 1974. They blew the city away.
This is the moment that changed my life, when I saw this as a little kid on Midnight Special. Blew me away. Took up guitar, jammed in bands ever since.
This is fantastic. The energy level is amazing.

I finally saw them live for the first time last Tuesday. Despite being between 57 and 64 they rocked like crazy. Best concert I have ever been to.
I saw them several times in 75 and man NOTHING can touch Kiss in the early 70's. NOTHING.
this is so awesome .. almost brings tears to my eyes...and its so tight! Jeez they were hungry those days
Absolutely On Fire at this point of their career!!!
When I saw them on the Midnight Special I went out and bought my first album. Nobody has rocked like them since
These guys were just so much fun to watch when they were younger. They moved like maniacs! What a great show!
when the lead guitarist is so good that he doesn't even have to look at his hands, it is totally impressive.
This is so Freakin Awesome I can't even put it into words. So I'll just listen
Me too! I became a musician because of these guys and they really rocked and showed the hungry desire in these early videos.
I first saw KISS at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis,Indiana 1977! That concert was a lifechanger!
Gene's yell is just intense!
I love the way they synchronize dance towards the end, Gene and Paul then they face Ace while he's finishing up the solo and Ace joins them and they do that freaky cool KISS Deuce Dance! Just fucking love that.

Got chills watching this. The year I fell in love with this band. Absolute blow your face off classic! Thanks so much for posting this!
One thing I just remembered about seeing Kiss in 1975 was the "shattering, clean sound " especially for the time. They really had the audio tech down.
You know your man is working hard....he's worth a deuce...classic verse...first concert ever Kiss Alive Tour April 1975 Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto Canada...kick ass rockin' roll...especially when you knew every word in every song!
The greatest video of all - time.

Wow, never saw this one before, cool! Look at Ace crank away on the guitar, killer song. Feel like a kid again ha ha, thanks!!
This is why they call them the old days.
Thanks youtube for being able to relive the good old days.
Just one word : FANTASTIC !!!
Straight forward, sheer hard rock power. This is how it's done!!
I love the synchronized moves! Kiss Rocks!!!
hell yeah,I watched this with my bro and sis,and we were young kids,it was cool
I agree.... I loved KISS as a kid. I wanted to play guitar so bad. As I got older I got "over" KISS but ended up being a life long professional musician.

I watch this video every day.
My favorite LP's are the 1st 3. But I was there at the beginning. Used to sing this and play bass in a band back in '76. Met Kiss back then.
This is great, so raw. KISS at their peak.
Playing like they mean it !
Nice to see this again ,
One word- amazing.
This one changed everything, depending on whatever perspective you had. Everything. Just saw Ace in a bar last Thursday, wow.
KISS is so original, so tight and hungry. They make many contemporary bands seem tame.
Gemma we met Ace and Paul in Toronto,Canada where I reside and really, they were super to us,now that we are all old 'dudes' and what not...grerat to mature and just rap like old dudes...luv on ya this holiday Season!

man they took the stage like they were gods, even before they were popular they couldn't be topped
Yeah!!!! KISS rules
great video

KISS #1. Deuce #1. Now on with the blood, guitar on fire, flames, and fireworks...oh hell yeah!!!
Thanks for posting this. Very cool...

they may not have been the most talented band back in the 70's but they put all their might and soul in to every performance they did.
This is so great
I brought the Kiss Alive album home, I borrowed it from my friend. My parents said "Get that album out of this house!!!"
Vancouver 1979...still original band and makeup.....great seats...it was fun...
a tight performance - no doubt! The energy of their youth comes thru as well.
“Get up and get your grandma outta here!” is one of the coolest and most unexpected lyrics in rock and roll history.
KISS @ their best. After Dressed To Kill they REALLY became cartoonish. The first three albums are absolute classics. I (at 15 years old) saw them open for Black Sabbath in 1975 and they completely stole the show.
Wow, that was amazing. \,,/
I was born in '89, I only wish I was born in the early years of rock and of KISS.
Early-Mid 70s Kiss.....Greatest band EVER
So much energy...it's like punk but before punk...
Paul with an early 70s Gibson L6-S...greatness! Wahi'
you my friend have a reason to live!
they were so on there game at this point! listen to ace and peter in the second verse!
THIS IS KISS!!!!!!!
That's why we still revere it. Think anyone 37 years from now will give a damn about those fly by night shows like american idol? My guess is no. Good times! When KISS was just about the music!
1970's rock n roll kicked major ass. Ace Freely was unreal. He was pulled over where I grew up doing well over 100 mph in his Ferrari....rock star cliche moment for sure, but man he could play.

From the very beginning, no act ever did more to make sure their audience enjoyed themselves. That's still true today almost 50 years later.!!!
HA! I had to sneak the first live album in under my coat too!
As a kid I was thinking, man this must be some good shit!!
LOL!
That was epic.
Those were the days !
SHE'S worth a Deuce! The REAL Kiss ladies and gentleman!
The Midnight Special was an awesome program. Everything was live-No lip synching. Way better than MTV,VH-1, etc could ever be.
This is Kiss!!!!!
Perfection.
ROCKIN!
One of the rare live clips where camera does pay some attention & respect to the lead guitarist.
Dude Im 39 and I was 2y/o when they dropped their Dressed to Kill album, and I was hooked since then. As for being one of the "only black kiss fans", you are so wrong bro. Rock on bro..thx!
INCREDIBLE> GREAT MOVES !!!! SIMPLY BADASS
Peter was really kicking ass that night!
kiss took over "the best american rock band from GRAND FUNK" WITH THIS!!!!
I never really grabbed on to the kiss train, couple of my brothers did..I was into Zeppelin..one brother was into Kiss and we argued and had stereo wars (1975)
I definitely appreciate what Kiss did , you had to take notice,I cant help but watch the early stuff, would never buy it though...
awesome moves!!
NOTHING beats this shit.
The real KISS....greatest rock band....EVER.
now thats what ROCK N ROLL is all about
when a man can "do it" back to back without stopping "he's worth a duece"
Great vibrato in 2:09. It's sad when KIss didn't took in this kissology volume 1.
looks like they took the photos of the ALIVE I booklet from that clip....love Ace's face at 2:09, feeling that vibrato, little body english.
They killed it all the time. Just noticed Gene almost rolled his ankle and went down at the start of the video.
EXCELLLLENT
Ace's amps were breathing fire!
