Let's not also forget that Lego Batman 2 was also the first game to introduce actual voices for characters instead of grunts, so in more ways than one the game itself was revolutionary for Lego.
Could say that for various games though. Indy 2 introduced the dynamic split screen system we have now, POTC brought in taking the whole roster into free play, Star Wars 3 started the feature of two players in completely different sections for a level in it. Hell, the middle earth pair brought about the recent characters wheel (used only again in Jurassic World IIRC) and the list of usable items.
IGN sent me a free copy of Lego Batman 2 for PS3. I loved that game more than I thought I would.
That surely is a negative though?
The movement from the slapstick grunt visual humour to cheesy jokes was a major downgrade

Let's be honest here.
Once you can unlock Davy Jones in POTC, you're pretty much done with the rest of the roster. And the only reason you ever begrudgingly used Blackbeard is because of his special power, because the game came out alongside the fourth movie, so they had to make the villain somewhat enticing to potential ticket buyers
Yes, I agree! But Jack, Barbossa, Syrena and Marty are also top tier characters

It’s so amazing seeing how it started with under 50 characters and ended with over 200 (So far) imagine what the Lego games will look like in the future, I can’t even imagine

Dimensions had so many characters I never thought would be in Lego. E.T, Beetlegeuse, etc., and even the characters who have only a few abilities are fun to play as. For me, that game wins in terms of the character roster.

If Lego Dimensions had a character roster where you buy them with coins, it would be overpowered on Lego lists.
Shame Dimensions is not on Steam.
I know it's just wishful thinking and extremely unlikely because of all the licensing issues it would probably cause but maybe one day if we're lucky it'll get the Disney Infinity treatment and they'll release it all as one big game on digital stores without the toys to life aspect
But on the other hand, you can’t unlock anything from the game itself anymore, because they don’t make those sets anymore
I completed DC Super Villains yesterday, and I think it's the best. It might not have to most amount of characters but there's a wide range of abilities and some really unique characters like Beast Boy and Vixen
Personally my favorite Lego batman game is 3, it’s story is really good and i’m glad it focuses lots on the lantern corps since it doesn’t get too much love in media, and obviously the major high point of the game is the sheer amount and variety of characters. Also that secret Adam West batman level was just 👌🏻
Edit: I was trippin, 1 is far better. But 3 slaps.
But the hub worlds, in comparison to lego batman 2, weren't fantastic. And speedsters were unbelievably slow. Solomon Grundy ran faster than flash. But yes, the roster is quite impressive

@@skizzle9166 but with that many characters it’s easy to put a lot less effort into each of them, it’s also very easy for it to crash and stuff since it’s a big game
Honestly, the Pirates of the Caribbean roster was always one of my favorites. I was never really any of the main characters and I was always one of the pirate lord's and Barbosa screw because I would go into levels and play my own Story Mode with my original ideas using my imagination same with lotr.

Damn when you showed the character roster from lego Batman 2 I was shocked how small it looked. Nightwing was probably my favorite character from that game.
I would absolutely love a Lego Pirates of the Caribbean remake/remaster. Adding characters, increasing accessibility, new content but primarily just so I can play a remastered version of my favorite video game. I have numerous fond memories of the game from throughout my childhood!
Imagine free roaming the Caribbean and once you complete Port Royal and unlock your first ship you can then go and complete any Pirates film by just sailing there (London would be far NE and Singapore would be far SE because otherwise it'd be unmanageable to sail there)

When it comes to the lego ninjago movie videogame, i would say the roster is less filler but a lot of the roster are charicters from the show so if you don't watch it (wich you should) a lot of the charicter can look to be filler, so you will probably appreciate the roster way more as pretty much every major charicter that had been introduced by that point was in the roster

My favourite character roster is Lego Marvel Superheroes 1. This is very much biased but I love marvel and believe that this roster is better than the next 2 lego marvel games. The X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool definitely help with that. Plus that first classic DLC makes the roster that much more impressive. So I believe that Lego Marvel Superheroes is great.
Yeah I agree it felt very definitive while the next one felt like it had too many unknowns and the one after that just felt too wierd

When I first saw the Marvel 2 Roster I was flashed. And I really liked, that you could get extra Characters in the Complete Saga with a specific Extra.

I don’t like how in lego Batman 3 Adam west and batmite are just filler characters that do nothing even though they’re super tedious to get. Compare it to lego marvel games where you get Stan Lee and he’s overpowered.
Adam west as a character is a tribute to the real life counterpart and the original batman movies. It’s really sweet of TT games to memorialize ol adam like that. May he rest in piece
@@znahejebe4063 they already have him as the 60s batman, but also as just Adam West which has no abilities at all, and is useless despite being incredibly tedious to get
I thought the Adam West in Peril puzzles were some of the most straight forward stuff in the game. He's just there to be his iconic self and do the Batusi for the fun of it.
Plus it's pretty easy to get 1966 Batman for free, who actually does have a lot of abilities.
Im playing Lego Marvel Superheroes for the first time (my last experience with a lego game was probably Lego Indiana Jones like 10-12 years ago) and am surprised by how detailed each character is, its really remarkable!

This is a tough one to rank. Like you said personal franchise preference is always a factor. And judging by 2021 standards could be unfair.
Personally I judge based on variety and recognition of the non-story characters (not as in nostalgia, more how forgettable they are) and not include DLC characters in my ranking.
My favourite of the Marvels is MSH1. MSH2 and Avengers have a lot of obscure comic characters that (for me anyway) I never played as. MSH1 just has that classic lineup as a roster.
I respect Ahsoka had more screen time than the other characters

Correction for 13:05; the first LEGO game with DLC was actually Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7, not LEGO Batman 2.
The release of Lego Harry Potter collection saved me when talking about lego games... cause now I can just bundle them together and talk about the collection instead of choosing favourites lol

I think Lego DC Super Villains have the best characters and i like we have our one character and in the finale you can choose your path.But evolution is a big factor in that question of characters

Lego Batman on the Nintendo DS had an alternate look for Killer Moth, don't think it was on any other versions though.

I would have put The Lego Ninjago Movie Game higher. I think that it is the perfect mix of movie characters and show characters. The only person that I think is missing is Ronin. I don't feel like anyone is unnecessary. Although, now that I have 100%, the only two that I play as are Turner (one of the two fast guys) and the Gold Ninja. But when I was playing, I really tried to get the minifigure bags. It was such a cool feeling, wondering what I would get next.

I genuinely prefer the smaller, more concentrated character rosters of Batman 1 and Indiana Jones 1; every character is pretty necessary and there's extremely little filler.
The character list for Force Awakens for comparison, is basically about 25% great and 75% filler
And now the skywalker saga has 380 characters

Ranking the character creators. They’ve been there since Star Wars 2, I think it would make for a good video. (And... one I’d be really interested in seeing)
In the Wii version of Lego Batman 2, Flash would run so fast it seemed like he was breaking the game. At least that's what I experienced

My biggest problem with the Lego Harry Potter games is that we need to go to the cauldrons to change character I don't know if earlier Lego games had similar restrictions, my first Lego game was Lego Marvel 1, so it's jarring having this restriction in free roam when I'm used to changing characters on the fly.
In batman 1 you need to find the character you want to change to in the hub world
@@indominusrex1652 Yes, I gathered that the earlier Lego Games had a similar system, but as I wrote above, my first Lego Game was Lego Marvel Superheroes, the only Lego game I've played thus far that pre dates LMSH is Harry Potter, unless you count Lego Racers 2, which belongs to a different studio and predates the modern Lego Game format.

I know it’s never going to happen, but I feel like the Mission Impossible series would be incredible in LEGO form. All the unique characters, the variety on levels that could be made, and the amount of content would be perfect for LEGO game.
But there was a mission impossible level pack for lego dimensions.

I remember the character unlock screen from Lego Batman 1 DS. It felt so cool and eerie.
After watching a few of your videos, I think I'll get around to getting Lego Incredibles when it goes on sale.
BTW, they really need to either port or remaster previous gen Lego games to current gen. Although I know it's mostly a license issue.
I don’t think they have a licensing issue, they made DC Villains, Lego Marvel 2 and are working on Skywalker Saga fairly recently, I don’t think any of those licenses have expired. Also on Xbox One you can play the 360 games via backwards compatibility

I like how in Star Wars TCS you can unlock characters from the old Lego star wars games and there textures are the same from the original so it makes you feel a more legendary aesthetic playing as the old Darth vader
