Antipsychotic use (they're also utilized to treat depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety) can cause galactorrhea. It's a not so uncommon side effect, as dopamine blockade increases prolactin levels.

This might be TMI but I took Prozac in my twenties (and stopped because of depersonalization) and now I will forever lactate. I looked it up to see if there was a connection and there is but it seems like most people stop a bit after they stop taking the pills. It's been years and I still lactate 😭

    • @Psychx_
      @Psychx_ Před 6 měsíci +17

@@chihauhaun I'm a pharmacist. Biochemically, there's no connection between Prozac (or regular SSRI/SNRI in general) and lactation. These meds act mainly on Serotonin, while lactation inversely depends on Dopamine levels.
High Dopamine -> low prolactin (no lactation) and vice versa.
Are you currently taking any meds? This includes stuff against nausea, reduced bowel movements or delayed emptying of the stomach. Any herbal medicines? Allergy medicine, meds against travelling sickness or sleeping aids? Supplements?
If not, then there could be other causes aswell. Get to your GP and have them draw blood to get your Prolactin levels checked. If they're high and this is not connected to any meds, then that would be an indicator for a prolactinoma.
Basically a few cells that have gone rogue and now produce that hormone uncontrollably. This happens in some people and can be resolved somewhat easily!

Huh strange. I'm not on any medications of any kind and when I had brought up the possible connection between Prozac and lactation (because of the timing correlating between the two) my Doctor agreed it was probably the cause in a really blase manner. She also laughed a bit and then told me I could go. She didn't think I should do any further testing either... Tbh she kind of sucks and makes me feel like a bother so I already feel nervous going to her for things (I live in Canada so not like it costs anything though). It's really hard to get another Doctor once you have one assigned here sadly. And doctors: If you are meeting with a hypermobile patient, before asking us to demonstrate something, ask yourself if you need to see it. Is it medically necessary, knowing it causes harm? If the answer is yes, explain that when asking. And if the answer is no, consider asking us to describe something or refer to the medical history to find what it is you need to know.

I’ve found that it’s just as important for Raynaud’s sufferers to wear socks and gloves that have non-binding elastic at the ankles and wrists, as it is to wear warm gloves and socks. Same with winter jackets that have elastic cuffs, especially when worn with gloves, creating an even tighter area at the wrists. Warm socks are good as long as they’re not too bulky for the boots, causing constriction of the toes. 😉

I get occasional conjunctivitis where my eyes make that stringy mucus but it’s also gritty and painful to have in the eye so it’s got to come out if I expect to see (it obscures vision)🤣.
Generally the cotton bud/q tip I use has been soaked in boiling saline water for a few secs and let to cool for a min (cools super fast) just to try and be as sterile as possible. Then I soak a flat cotton pad in the same saline, let it go to lukewarm and press that on my irritated eyelid for a bit and within about 20 mins it’s a bit better, not as itchy. Helps when you don’t have immediate access to chloramphenicol and you’re an NHS patient who your GP is too underfunded and overcrowded to see lol.

My Raynaud's was caused by insufficient B12. I get injections of methylcobalamin now and the Raynaud's cleared up. My B12 serum level was normal during this time and I have learned that a B12 serum test does not indicate what is actually getting into your cells. Too many people have doctors who ignore symptoms of low B12 just because of normal serum test results. Based on my experience, Raynaud's is a sign your B12 absorption is compromised. And yes, times of stress deplete B12 faster so B12 deficiency symptoms (like Raynaud's) will be more pronounced when the body is stressed.

I can put my hands into boiling water for as long as the lady in the video without harm or pain - I'm sure a lot of people can. It's probably just good/responsive blood flow. That appears to be oil though, which would be much more impressive.
My father used to ice fish, never wore gloves, and used his bare hands to clear ice from the hole.

Mucus fishing: my eyes are so dry and make lots of mucus. I take a continuous fine mist spray bottle filled with Evian water, pull my eyelids open and make sure the mist sprays under the eyelids to flush the mucus out. Then blink hard a few times and use Ocusoft eye cleaner on a gauze sponge to clean the outside of the eyes. Nice and clean eyeballs for putting drops in and no fishing mucus out.

I mean, I have pretty clicky joints, especially my knees (I have high knee caps, so my knees like to click away and often bend the wrong way or give way randomly), and my poor back and shoulders could do with a few good clicks to loosen up the muscles (working in scientific research labs really screws with your posture). But even my loudest clicks are nothing like the double jointed man, despite what my brain thinks!

If you're at a high enough elevation, the boiling point of water decreases sufficiently to be able to put your hand into the boiling water for a short time without damage. It isn't pleasant, and prolonged would be trouble, but it is possible. My ex used to test pasta by grabbing noodles with his fingers straight into the boiling water, back at high elevation living. Like mile high +

If you don't cut a baby's umbilical cord, or tie it, it will normally fall off by itself. Normally once the baby begins breathing, blood vessel connections to the baby via the umbilical cord are closed off. Minutes after birth it no longer has very much blood in it, the now nearly bloodless, white umbilical cord dies, and like any other superficial dead tissue, it falls away. It will shrivel up and turn black but since there is no blood circulation between the cord and the baby, any microorganisms growing in the dead tissue do not normally cause a problem for the baby. Within about a week the baby has a "belly button" instead of a length of umbilical cord hanging from its belly. You know how some people can wiggle their ears? Well at one time I was able to voluntarily hike up my sack. After having inguinal hernia surgery, on both sides, that used part of my cremaster muscle (with its blood supply maintained) to close the defect in my abdominal muscles, my cremaster was no longer connected, at its distal end, to the sack, and I can no longer hike up the sack. Oh well, better lose that ability than to have a loop of intestines being stuck inside the sack.

i think that as long as your eyes have healthy tear ducts then no, you don't really need to to something like this. If you feel like you have makeup residue in your eye, flushing it with some eye drops should be enough. Or gently massaging the eye area with a cleansing oil.
