Lyrics
You want a skinny lover
And so I find
I have the wrong body
Even though I have the right mind
You want a skinny lover
And that's perfectly fine
But it means you will always want some other body
More than you'll want mine
But this is familiar, it's who we've become
Slaves to aesthetic this is the tune that we hum
Can we change who we are?
Can we remove the filter from over our hearts?
If you're not beautiful you'll be side-lined
Can we let go of our pride
Of how we look on the outside?
Anyways I thought love was supposed to be blind
You want a skinny lover
And so I find
I have the wrong body
Even though I am the perfect kind
But this is familiar, it's who we've become
Slaves to aesthetic this is the tune that we hum
Can we change who we are?
Can we remove the filter from over our hearts?
If you're not beautiful you'll be side-lined
Can we let go of our pride
Of how we look on the outside?
Anyways I thought love was supposed to be blind
For the first time in my life
I wish I was somebody else
All those bottles of teenage self-consciousness
Come tumbling down from the shelf
But this is familiar its who we've become
Slaves to aesthetic this is the tune,
This is the tune that we hum
Can we change who we are?
Can we remove the filter from over our hearts?
If you're not beautiful you'll be side-lined
Can we let go of our pride
Of how we look on the outside?
Anyways I thought love was supposed to be blind

Hi Shelly. I just love all your music. You have the ability to tell it just like it is. Your voice is amazing. Looking at your videos you look like you are really having a lot of fun. Best wishes to you. Jimmy. Dublin 13 Ireland. A fellow Atheist.
Thanks for the kind words Jimmy. I am definitely always having a good time, glad to be able to do this. It's funny you say that coz I remember before I made my first ever video my dad said to me to 'enjoy every minute' and it always stuck with me.
We will all get old and die someday but may your ideas live on through your songs and reach future generations. Brilliant, as ever.
Thank you Johnny, I really appreciate that
I'm just finding gems I didn't know existed. Shelley, you should be a household name.
Awwww thanks mate. You’re too kind! It’s a long road this musical journey. Getting to connect with folks along the way and have my music speak to them is way better than any amount of fame or acclaim.
Not that I would say no to the bigger crowds and bigger bags that come with it LOL!!!
@@ShelleySegal I heard that. 🙂
Thank you for braving the internet trolls to make your work accessible to more people. Your music has had my attention since the first Reason Rally in DC.
+theiage Thanks for the kind words Theiage :)
It’s a crime that this song doesn’t have at least a million views
Thanks Greenfrog
I agree
When a person is beautiful on the inside they become beautiful on outside. And people who are outwardly beautiful can become ugly, if they are ugly inside. I have always seen you as beautiful, Shelley.
Hi again :D
Why thank you
I agree. The more I spend time with people I like the more beautiful they look to me.
She is absolutely beautiful. Period. And I just absolutely love her music.
Shelley is wonderful, I love her music and some folk are not as shallow as this song implies. We are all odd in one way or another some physically, some mentally, some just have unusual personalities. We are all humans no matter what colour, religion or none, or where in the world your from. Were family, let's start treating each other that way. X
Such a crazy good song! I’m usually not a lyrics person but this song hit me!
Go girl …. The world is a better place with you in it Shelley Segal! Love this beautiful song …. sad some are blind to the beauty
+Zoe Street Thanks Zoe!!!
Shelley IS looking good. And she definitely has "the right mind".
See that right there, that is TALENT
You definitely have the right mind , you're a direct reflection of what music is really supposed to be used for .
Music says you're healing the world , one song at a time .
Wow. The comments on here. Shelley hit a nerve. I love this song. I don't think being physically attracted to someone is bad but I think it overstated in our culture.
Thanks Kayla :D
how is it overstated? Would you not like your partner to find you attractive? The consensus is, that an athletic body is more attractive than an obese or overly skinny one. The issue lies not in the perception, but the calory intake (if you are unhappy with the way things are).
@@notlisztening9821 outside of your circles, that is not a consensus. what a horribly inaccurate perception. and the inference that falling outside the athletic body type is somehow the reason, is well, unfathomable. where do you come from?
You can love the person forever. There is nothing sexier than a brilliant partner with a great sense of humor.
I have literally been playing this on repeat for an hour now
BLOCKBABE So glad u like it
Songs with actual messages are underated.
Agreed :D
A wonderful song with a strong message from a beautiful singer!
I love Shelly and her music.
Thank you, Shelley, for ALL you do!! You're touching more lives than you'll ever know!! Peace!! :)
+Lord Presley Thanks for your kind words Lord :)
xx
Our bodies are perfect just the way they are 🥰❤️❤️
Heck yeh they are :D
You are beautiful as you are. Be yourself and be proud of who you are.
Love this woman. ❤❤
Thanks Stefano 🤩
The song hits close to home. At one point or another in our lives I believe we all wished we were someone else, and then you realize the problem are the lenses, not the subject. :-)
Thanks for your thoughts California. I agree - and with hard work we can control the perspective
Returning to this wonderful song. Thank you, Ms. Segal.
i cannot put into words the respect i have for you Shelly, this vid and you rock, nice job!
PS...had soooo much fun in San Fran...miss ya!
Thanks Flash :)
I had to laugh at the line at 2:14 that says "Anyways I thought love was supposed to be blind." I've been saying for a long time now, love isn't blind. Love is BLINDING! :)
You make me cry in the most cathartic way. You're really the person Mr. Rogers knew you could be.
Beautiful son: Inspiring and full of meaning. The world needs more Shelley Segals to bit superstition and prejudice!
Thanks Yoly Moly
Shelley is a great artist and human being. I am really hoping to catch a show at some point when she is stateside..I need to check her tour dates (with my luck she has already been to AZ this year).
+PJ Neeley Hey PJ - thanks for the kind words.
Hope to catch you in AZ this year :)
Haven't been yet! ;)
+PJ Neeley best way to followlocal gigs: www.bandsintown.com/track/Shelley%20Segal
I will check back often to see if you end up with anything near me. I really love your work.
Dearest Shelley, I love your sound and your music and your fresh, open, honesty. I write and perform songs about God- which has nothing to do with religion IMO and the qualities you write & sing about are very much in alignment with my beliefs. I believe we are all one and we are in the process of figuring that out. Your music is an important part of that process of questioning and redefining the lies that have been told to us. I hope to share a stage with you someday!! Love & Light, Izzy James
Jack McLoryd
Hi Izzy.
Thanks for your kind words.
Best wishes to you
Jack McLoryd
Hi Izzy.
Thanks for your kind words.
Best wishes to you
Beautiful inside, outside, plays guitar, and sings. Perfect.
awww, thank you Bitwise!
Many times, the stereotyped beauty model that many people pursue is rather about them relentlessly trying to disguise and fill in a void they feel inside. It's just a mask. Great music! You're amazing! (to say the least...)
She could sing the dictionary and make it sound deep. The fact that she actually sings deep lyrics is an insane bonus. Amazing stuff Shelly!
She makes good music.
Google Plus will love this song and video. Watch it.
Yeah, I LOVE IT.
Hanna Silver Thanks so much for sharing Hannah
***** Thanks Lisa :D
Ay this is good.
***** Thanks Gordon :)
I am sharing this wonderfully performed and produced video with my daughters. What a clever concept for communicating an important message! Well done, Shelley.

Shelley Segal Listened to you on The Thinking Atheist. Loved this song especially. You're beautiful both in mind and body, don't believe the nay-sayers! :)
Funaru Thanks Funaru
Shelley Segal Sweet tune. Love you.
Funaru I came here for that reason to. :)
Love this. Reminds me of Perfect 10 by the Beautiful South. Musically and the messaging.
Beautiful. Thank you for this wonderful song.
Thank you Debbie!
Damn, Shelley! You have created another FABULOUS work of art. Thank you!
Wow, Shelley. Great video. There are music therapists who use music to help people with body image problems, eating disorders, etc. and I think this song will be an amazing tool to help people process their thoughts and experiences. Thanks for writing this and for making a great quality video too.
+jessica leza Thank you so much Jessica! I hope so!
What an awesome statement! All shapes and sizes are acceptable.
Slaves to aesthetic this is the tune that we hum
GodWorksOut Lucky gods working out :P
+Shelley Segal Shelley you are all the evidence we need that there is not god. What kind of lazy piece of shit would spit our an abortion like you....
This is also an awesome video.. I Like listening to this while working.
Purple Shells!
Jon!! How u going mate??
Such an important message in this song. We need always to fight for equality in every aspect and on all frontiers. And what a great ongto musically! Thank you Shelley for this art. BR, father of two daughters.
Oh no, can't have positive body image getting too popular on social media. I bet it would've blown up today maybe.
Beautiful song. Can't wait to hear more from you. I'm glad you continue to write and produce music despite the negativity. Find the positive voices. Those are the only ones that matter.
+Kaitlyn Schaper Thanks heaps Kaitlyn :) I appreciate the encouragement x
Love you Shelley
Touching lyrics.
I love Shelly. She is just simply amazing.
You are perfect Shelly.
Shelley, you are so beautiful inside and out. Most of my skinny friends who married because they were thin have all gotten lots bigger over the years.
Shelley, you rocked my socks off this morning. Great new song. Like I said on my post of this song on my FB wall, You are so beautiful inside and with your message, it is almost irrelevant that you are also beautiful on the outside too. I love this song!!!!
You've done it again Shelley, beautiful thought-provoking song!
Leona Devaz Thanks so much Leona !
Shelley! You are in a league of your own you know that?
That's awesome Shelly, Crazily loving it. :)

Can't deny good music, regardless of the genre. Whether it's folk, rap, metal... whatever. If it's good, it's good, and that's it..... #GU
Cheers :)
Easy on the ear and eye.
Shelley you are gorgeous !!
Shelly is gorgeous! Of course, maybe I am just biased because she looks a lot like my wife... :D

You (were) "transformed" from *beautiful* to beautiful with makeup/hairdo!
❤️❤️
Excellent, Shelley! As always...
Cheers Brian :)
Go girl!
Insightful and profound.
If you don't love this song, then you have never known love, no you haven't, not really.
Plus, it's a really good song, and very well produced :-)
Beautiful song, sometimes guys have the same issues. I have had long time weight issues, and women have always thought me as unattractive, so I have felt sidelined from having any sort of relationship.
Hi Lonesome. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's not meant to be particularly about women as opposed to men, I guess it could seem that way coz I'm a girl :)
I shared this song with my friends and nieces. Thank you!
I like this:)
Thanks Dawid
Shelly - you are awesome!!!!!! first heard your music on the Atheist Experience - what a great song. You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great song! And you are beautiful.
and if Shelly would just come back it'll be all right....
Great job, great talent and even though I did hear the words to this song, I have a need to say your very pretty and most beautiful.

I have had this song stuck in my head for two days since watching your interview on "the thinking atheist". I'm so glad you did that interview so I was able to come across your amazing music and you. I have now brought all your works via bandcamp and I can't wait to see and listen to what you make next.
I love the song!
It has a great message, and for what it is worth you are absolutely gorgeous.
And another album, congratz!
I know you're all about that bass! All about that bass! No trouble!
