Ep.73 [K-STAGE] March 1st Movement Day Special: “Il Tenóre” the Musical
K-Stage introduces the musical “Il Tenóre” to mark the March 1 Movement Day in Korea, with "Il Tenóre" being Italian for tenor.
The musical is set in colonial Korea in the 1980s and tells the story of Yun Yi-seon, who dreams of becoming Korea's first opera singer. The protagonist Yun was inspired by the real-life tenor Lee In-seon, who started off as a physician during the Japanese colonial period and became the first Korean singer to study in Milan.
The characters of Yun Yi-seon, independence activist Seo Jin-yeon and Lee Soo-han join forces to prepare for an opera performance, fueled by their youth and pursuing their dreams during one of the darkest periods of Korea’s history.
Drawing on the similarities between the independence movement at the time and opera, in that they both require painstaking effort and preparations from behind the scenes, the musical "Il Tenóre" achieves a harmonious fusion of direction, music, and performance. 삼일절을 맞이해 K-STAGE가 준비한 스페셜 공연은 바로 뮤지컬 "일 테노레".
'일 테노레'는 이탈리아어로 '테너'를 뜻한다.
이 작품은 일제강점기인 1930년대 경성을 배경으로, 조선 최초의 오페라 테너를 꿈꾸는 윤이선의 인생을 담은 뮤지컬이다. 동양인 최초 뉴욕 오페라 단원이 되는 주인공 윤이선은 일제강점기 시대의 의사이면서 밀라노에 유학한 첫 한국인 성악가였던 테너 이인선을 모티브로 한 인물이다.
윤이선과 함께 오페라 공연을 준비하는 독립운동가 서진연과 이수한, 세 사람을 통해 비극적이고 어두운 시대 속 꿈을 향해 달려가는 청춘들의 이야기를 펼쳐냈다.
독립운동과 오페라 무대가 단 한 순간을 위해 앞이 아닌 뒤에서 철저하게 준비한다는 공통점을 토대로 무대, 연출, 음악, 연기 모든 게 환상의 조화를 이룬 뮤지컬 "일 테노레"를 통해 그 뜨겁고 치열했던 시절로 돌아가 보자.
