I'm not gonna buy the damn pillow by Honoré Chrétien (I just made that name up, by the way).
I'm not saying everything needs to be from Target, but not everything needs to be for multimillionaires and designers either. I subscribed because I was interested in articles talking about design, not because I was interested in how multimillionaires deck their houses out (often tastelessly) or because I wanted to know how the most avante-garde designers thought.

The carrying costs for what is essentially a private hotel can be too much even for the morbidly wealthy. Time comes in ones life that constantly entertaining can be a major drain not only on ones bank account but physically and mentally. A lot of business owners of these type properties have lavish parties that can be written off as business expenses. Once a person retires or sells the business, that style of entertaining simply is not possible.

When someone builds such an expensive estate they must realize that when they walk away from it, nobody will want it without a deep discount.
There are just too many other appealing options for 100M, such as the top of the woolworth tower (59M) or a home along the Ocean.

Im assuming the 100m dollar price tag is simply because the owner has no need or want to sell the estate. I believe these overpriced listings are to drum up attention and sticker shock, whereas an actual interested person wouldn't offer no more than 50-60 for this home. Its gorgeous don't get me wrong (although in my opinion, the interior design isn't the aesthetic of the time period of the home, asian influence in a farmhouse is a bit confusing), but like most overpriced listings, they set the price super high and settle for a lower, realistic price, yet still making a profit. This home will probably be listed for awhile.

Honestly not as much of a McMansion as I was expecting - the interior choice is a bit odd, but it’s not unpleasant. But I just can’t imagine justifying £100m given any buyer will have to spend a tonne on updating everything to their taste, and the space is just excessive.

The house looks like it’s worth $5mm tops. The library is beautiful but the general architecture is severely lacking-very modern, not at all authentic or interesting. I think the price is due to the acreage. You could sell off the land in 10 acre lots for $2-3 mm apiece. If you sell 600 acres in this manner, you could make a $80mm profit. I couldn’t imagine needing more than 150 acres for one horse farm, but maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️
