One of Aerith's defining characteristics is that she's incredibly lonely. Her loneliness as the final Cetra. Her loneliness from her lack of friends and family (excluding Elmyra), and her lack of a childhood. A lot of people take for granted that they have a hometown. A place to go back to. A place that will always evoke a sense of nostalgia/belonging. Aerith has none of those things. But meeting Cloud gave her a way to have all of those things. Through Cloud, she made friends. She found the place she belongs.
Your comment reminded me of the Resolution scene with Aerith back in Remake. She told Cloud how everything that he says and do meant so much for her. When she met Cloud, her world became bigger and she got to experience things that she never experienced. It's also important to note how her last wish in their final date in Rebirth is just to spend a day with Cloud. And when they arrived in the Church, she thanked him for everything. Cloud has brought a lot of happiness to Aerith's isolated wolrd.
This is beautiful and well said. It's crazy how Aerith ended up growing into a person that shows nothing but love for the world and everyone in it despite the fact she had every reason under the sun to be resentful and bitter all things considered.
If you read the book that's entirely true. She got to grow up with Elmyra and had a bit of community with them although not her birth mother. She had to hide her identity though
Anyone with at least a small understanding of these characters know that it is not about aerith’s jealousy over cloud and tifa’s romance, but instead aerith’s envy over cloud and tifa’s childhood frienship and connection. This is yet another scene where cloud and aerith are being vulnerable to each other and support each other, especially when you talk to her again. These are the kind of scenes that make their relationship evolve little by little, eventually making them fall in love with each other. Anyways great video as always man, keep up the great work.

But she’s dead a day later so how does that work exactly? Also funny how one time Cloud and Tifa hardly knew eachother according you shippers. And then the next they had a friendship. Depending on if it fits the argument or not. Suffice to say its pretty obvious Aerith here is just looking back on her life. She’s not thinking about Cloud having a crush there and being jealous. I think here she already somehow knows whats going to happen. If you know your days are almost over you will reflect back more. And see things from a different perspective. She clearly never thought that much about the things she ‘had missed out on’ before. But now at the very end she realizes what she could have had. Thats why she’s angry. It has nothing to do with Cloud/Tifa. It could have been any two people reminding her of what she never had.
Cloud and Aerith were always meant to be together, they’re soulmates if I’ve ever seen one. I’m not too big on the romance genre in any type of media but Clerith stood out to me in a way nothing ever has before. Their story is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever learnt about. Everything about them is so beautiful. I love them.

Poor Cloud. He lives in conflict with his feelings, thoughts, and memories. He has been through so much in his life. Their concern for not hurting each other while also wanting to protect each other is so perfect.
Where they sit is important too. Just like in the Tifa/Cloud scene. The sword is layed down (emotional guard's off) but there is a corner between them and they can't easily look at each other. Cloud sitting in front of Tifa's window, Tifa barely visible but waving. Always the conflict : he desires to be close and intimate with these girls, but he's just too shy and troubled. I love the empathy in the second scene. This is "Superkind Cloud", a bit of the true Cloud, the one who could spend his day chasing after Tifa's cat even if she wouldn't know. Being able to show it to Aerith is a sign of their deep bond. He is quite secure around her.
Agreed. Putting aside any romantic interest, whether you're a Clerith or a Cloti, he feels comfortable talking to Aerith because she's touched him in such a way that he doesn't feel criticized for being himself, something he probably didn't feel like he got during his childhood in Nibelheim.
This is such loving writing for anyone who grew up in toxic families with unhealthy communication and later encountered this in romantic relationships. Marking boundaries, empathy, active listening, and respect mean so much to healthy relationships and communication. I also incredibly love how this game subverts your expectations. I'm referring to Cloud, who, because of his inferiority complex and the trauma of rejection, acts cocky and arrogant to avoid showing his softness, sensitivity, and vulnerability. Aerith may initially seem like a childish and superficial extrovert with lots of friends, but as you get to know her better, she reveals herself to be the most mature and empathic character in ff7, who is tragically lonely because of her race, childhood in captivity, and destiny. Tifa, on the other hand, may seem like a successful girl with a big goal and a grown-up to rely on, but in reality she doesn't feel confident because of her personality, she can't even deal with her own emotions, let alone anyone else's, and her attention is too focused on the romantic drama between her and Cloud, who she would like to lean on as a crutch. I just love so much how carefully the devs have written all these characters.
It's interesting, This whole scene happens with Aerith's knowing that Tifa told her Cloud was never there 5 years ago. So when Cloud points the inn he stayed 5 years ago, she lets it go and continues to talk about other things.
I really wished they used "Let's head down". It just sounds better and her response makes more sense. Also, I played both Spanish subs that the game offers and they have the same issues. In Latin American Spanish, it's "I'm going to" and the Spain Spanish is "Let's" which only gives me the idea that both of those teams got different scripts, with the Latin getting the American Script (they do almost a one to one) and the Spain getting the Japanese. Small words can change the context and meaning for scenes like these in a big way. It's frustrating to lose that because the vision of the original writer gets muddled or lost. Forgot to add! Wow that's upsetting to learn about more TL issues. There are numbers of them throughout the entire game that are frustrating. Especially during the alter when Cloud says "I got this," in JP it's "wait for me." Massive differences here 😔
@@mlwjrpgI made my first playtrough in English. I rewatched and replayed some parts, especially the end, in French. Sometimes it’s a complete different vibe. For instance the last cut scene, in French like in Jp, Aerith doesn’t ask Cloud to promise anything. She just encourages him. Or, but it’s more because of the specificity in French, when Sephiroth talks to Aerith during the dream date « that’s where you have been hiding … » it seems that he is talking about Cloud and Aerith and not just only about her. That may change his true motivation …
I missed this interaction my first playthrough bc I jumped straight off the water tower to the ground to go see what everyone else was doing and missed the triangle icon 😭. If he had said “Let’s go down” I would have expected her to follow and I don’t think I would have missed it.
Oh my goodness!!! It's finally here. This is just one of my most favorite Clerith scenes in Rebirth. Their emotional maturity made my heart warm. Their at the point where they truly understand each other. Aerith is usually hiding her sadness and feelings with her smiles but at this moment, she opened up to Cloud. And she has learned that Cloud is going to accept her anger even though he's not at fault on anything. Her reply to him made me shed a tear I guess when I first seen this haha. I just love how she didn't treat Cloud like an emotional punch bag. Because that would've hurt a lot. And thanks to this analysis, I realized that I've missed one great point. And that is Cloud going down alone and not pushing Aerith further. Ahhhh!!!! I love this water tower scene and Nojima-san described it perfectly💗. Thank you so much for another amazing analysis!☁️🌸
I agree, this is a top tier Clerith scene in Rebirth, we have so many to choose from haha! Yeah, Cloud not pressuring Aerith about her wanting to be alone was such a powerful growth moment between them. A lot of what we see during this scene, is good to practice in our real life relationships.

Yes it did... So many saying "No! that's Tifa's spot" or "that's their spot" and I'm like no 🤦 that's Clouds spot. Tifa was only up there that one time because he invited her to talk.

Sorry that I’m commenting that again: I have one observation that I like to share and maybe discuss with fellow sane ff7 fans. I was watching TikTok and they used the spinning in loveless play as proof that Cloti is canon and by reading the comments from both sides bc there are many new players not knowing which game it is and who is who, and Cloti using it to poison and brainwash them and Clerith ofc telling the truth under those comments, but as I read the article about Tifa date and just about the GS dates and how they are not canon more fan service with dating sim simulator. I came to conclusion that Cloud in those scenes is portraying the player. In Tifa date Cloud is inconsiderate, aggressive and touchy like Clotis. He doesn’t care about his own feelings, fooling himself and blind to the truth which his own intentions are showing much like Clotis, and he doesn’t care about Tifa feelings and needs and treats her like physically pleasing thing like Clotis. On the other hand Clerith are more gentle, and love natural flow of the things from OG FF7 with knowing how Cloud feels and respecting that as well respecting and understanding Aerith feelings. That’s why Aerith date is like original bc we like what the story is telling. Not fooling ourselves with something that isn’t existing bc we have boner for some girl like certain part of fandom does all the time (sorry for my wording but I’m pissed off so that’s why I wrote what I wrote. But ofc I can change wording if it’s too rude or offensive ^^)

I'd also like to add that in the plays between Aerith and Tifa as Rosa, Cloud seems to be more aggressive with Tifa even in the dream sequence with her; hes super aggressive and stoic. However when he pulled Aerith in while they were dancing, it seemed more natural and gentle.
Aerith's lonely childhood has been a significant narrative thread throughout Remake and Rebirth, and I feel like it’s all leading to something crazy in part 3. It will probably be the Lifestream event, and I think that it will be healing for both her and Cloud. If Aerith is able to observe or interact with Cloud’s memories in the Lifestream, she could witness firsthand the isolation and loneliness he endured as a child, drawing an emotional parallel to her own childhood experiences. Imagine this: Aerith realizes she’s inside Cloud’s memories, and as she delves deeper, she feels his pain and is reminded of her own childhood. This causes her to regress to her younger self. Seeing a young Cloud and Aerith interact would be wild. They could share moments together, playing and comforting each other, as both of their old wounds begin to heal. This would be a fitting narrative tie-in to Aerith’s desire to find the “real” Cloud. It would also offer Cloud a deeper understanding of Aerith, allowing him to see beyond the cheerful flower girl to the lonely child she once was, and the pain she hides. The scene could conclude with them returning to their adult selves in a full-circle moment where they’ve revisited and, in a sense, “corrected” their lonely pasts. Now, they’d be facing the future together, with a stronger bond. Wouldn't that be cool?
Right, Cloud and Tifa's realtionship is way out of sync - there's zero balance. Their out of sync melody would never change its' tune either. They just don't belong together. Whereas Cloud and Aerith are complimentary one to the other, a melody well written. Cloud could never find true inner and outer happiness if he ended up with Tifa as he would with Aerith, she is whom he'd find his true Promised Land.

I remember when I first watched this scene, I found it interesting they had made it a CloudxAerith scene since, up until that point, its always been a Cloud and Tifa memory. Something that the Cloti fans always like to bring up is the water tower scene and now...its a CloudxAerith scene instead. It no longer belongs with just Tifa. And unlike Cloud and Tifa's scene, where it feels like Tifa pressures Cloud to make a promise, this scene is so amazing and, as you said, Cloud feels no pressure here. It just feels like another great scene that showcases the past is the past, but the present/future is what's important (which is CloudxAerith of course). Also, they showed this scene at the FFVII Rebirth Orchestra... "And is growing evermore..." Love the evermore reference from Promises to Keep at the end ❤

Yh, mostly when Cloti scene happens at night and as I’m interested in tarot moon card describes illusion, deception and unknown factors when Clerith scene happens at day, sun card the most positive card in tarot and when it falls it always gives good meaning to the reading ^^
This is a brilliant breakdown of another Cloud-Aerith scene! It really reinforces my observation that while Cloud and Tifa has chemistry, no denying that, Cloud and Aerith's chemistry is just better.
Plain and simple you said it here, there are connections and feelings amongst both girls, LTD for sure. But Aerith and Cloud's dynamic is on another level.

Another layer here is Cloud not wanting to hurt Tifa by being in their spot with Aerith, her bff, and unfortunately romantic competition. Aerith didn't know it's Tifa's & Cloud's spot where she's sitting. When she waves cutely at Tifa, I know Tifa died inside a little bit. Cloud feels this. She knows Aerith doesn't know and smiles and waves like nothings wrong. Tifa once again, can see the Clerith love deepening. Cloud didn't wave cuz he's embarrased, wanted to respect Tifa by not appearing enthused, and he's reliving his painful childhood being left out & unfairly taking the blame for Tifa's benefit/well being. I really hope the devs have a bff Aerith & Tifa scene where they promise each other whoever Cloud chooses, they'll never stop being bffs. ❤ This whole scene really supports the ending scenes by showing how deep their love, boundaries, communication, and their respect for each other go. Holding hands back to back hits harder thanks to this scene.

I'm slowly re reading ToTP, particularly ToA as I'm refreshing my memory and taking notes for a video I want to do eventually on Aerith's childhood specifically. Also great insight here, you've hit the nail on the head and I agree on having more Tifa/Aerith deep interactions.

So thank you 😸 If you remember the ending in ToTP, SPOILER***********she accepts her past but is very intent on moving on. At the water tower, her past comes back. There's some lines Aerith says like, "OK moving on." & "Gotta look forward, not back." She wants to leave the past behind & at the water tower she's reminded of the childhood, innocence, and mom Hojo stole from her. Part of the reason she's so good at communicating to Cloud is because of the trauma Hojo put her thru. She needed to listen & communicate well for her safety & mom. She has massive empathy & emotional intelligence cuz she's had the worst life.
The funny thing is, I actually opt not to talk with her after the affinity scene in my first playthrough because I just thought it's gonna be another short line like how the previous interactions work. The beach, Gongaga, etc. Why would the 1 important scene that happen is when I decided not to do it? So unfortunate.

Now, I do know that I can sneak a photo, what I didn't realized is that there's actually up to 4 photos that I can take. I only took the first one and everytime Aerith turns around, I quickly looked away. Because I really thought I'm taking her picture secretly. Haha, another misfortune.

That koibito tsunagi gesture Cloud and Aerith made after Sephiroth fight was a clear message. No matter what choices players make in the game eventually it all leads to CA. They can't even weaponize Zack anymore because Zerith got nuked in Rebirth and Zack is basically Cloud's wingman now.
Hi, saw your second video after the “secret scene” one. Really like your explanations, sometimes it provides a new perspective. I didn’t attribute Cloud not sitting next to Aerith to his worries about her feelings for Zack - that makes a lot of sense. I thought he was just being awkward. This scene was significant to me since it added a lot of humanity to Aerith. Before she seemed almost too perfect - always cheerful, optimistic etc. I liked they showed she had some emotional struggles as well. I remember how I immediately felt she got much more balanced as a character during my first play through.
Awesome glad that you stumbled across that vid and this one! Oh yeah I agree with you on Cloud being awkward. I believe it's a combination of many things to consider there, not just Cloud being worried about Aerith's feelings for Zack. I'll do a vid on the gondola date at some point and I'll go into more detail on that vid about it. Yeah showing that Aerith isn't perfect and struggles with her emotions and feelings is great and gives her character more depth. Even with the Gongaga scene with the discussion on Zack, Aerith still struggles with not getting proper closure and shows she really is human I liked seeing a lot.
About the parallel with the Gold Saucer I’d say that He acts that way because he really remembers Zack at that moment, that they were friends, he knows they were together and that he is probably dead. He doesn’t know if Tifa told Aerith about it so he doesn’t know how to act with her.
Yeah once he and she got into the seat, he immediately shifted from the relaxed gentleman to a stiff, cold and distant behavior. He was repulsed by the fact that she's still in relationship with Zack as she didn't give him the answer he wanted to hear. He tried to keep the proper manner but was conflicted inside, resulting in a very weird stature. As with Tifa during the date, he's been acting like a silly boy all the way until they sat face-to-face, learning from Tifa that Aerith might still have feelings for Zack. At that time, his true self revealed, wanting to conquer the heart of his childhood dream. He reverted back to the silly boy as they exited the date.

Part 3 will be less painful if you open up to the real story of ff7 not your head canons that never took place or misinterpretation that is only in your head when the game is telling something different.

Is sharing my take from the game a crime? Cloud shows his true self unconsciously around Aerith when he's not trying to pretend to be a SOLDIER. When sitting with Aerith in the date, with her confusing answer about Zack, he got tensed up because he's conflicted, torn between his feelings for her and his manner - knowing that she might still have feelings for Zack. Cloud shows his true self, dreaming to be accepted by Tifa as since a child, when he's in private with Tifa, both in Remake and in Rebirh date scenes. To be accepted by Tifa has always been his dream since childhood. And it's part of his true self. Cloud -> Aerith or Cloud -> Tifa are pretty much player's choice in OG and in Remake. The main story though is about Aerith -> Cloud AND Tifa -> Cloud. They both like Cloud and it's not player's choice nor optional. Their feelings for Cloud are both main stream. No need to ship nor fantasize. Even the affinity system is about the NPC's affection towards Cloud based on what the player made Cloud to say.
@@haihuynh8337 The first part of the date with Tifa is the real Cloud shy and who doesn't dare to make eye contact with her. But with no reason he brings Aerith's feeling in the date asking things he already knows and keeps insisting. Then all of sudden, maybe because he realized that he hurt her, he switches back to that fake Soldier persona; the one full of confidence, the one who takes charge, the one who was flirting with her at the bar in Remake. The person he thinks he needs to be to please Tifa. At the end of both high affinity dates Cloud gave the girls what they wanted. Aerith wants someone to "take her hand" like in her song and Tifa wanted to have a Hero that would take care of her, materialized by the kiss she wanted in Gongaga. But there is only one date that shows an evolution at the end and it's the Aerith one. This time Cloud is the one handing his hand to her. It's a good parallel with what we see trough the game; Cloud and Aerith are moving forward, growing their bond, being honest to each other and showing their vulnerability while in the same time with Cloud and Tifa we are more in a "one step forward two steps" back situation. The best example is Cloud telling Tifa he didn't like being alone when he was a kid and the chapter that follows Tifa is laughing at Barret's joke about him being a loner.

In the next dialogue, I always found it odd that Cloud immediately jumped to the conclusion that Aerith was angry at him even he answered honestly (3 stars). I think Cloud was putting his feelings into Aerith's shoes to judge, meaning he was thinking, worried that Aerith was angry at him because she was romantically jealous like he was upset when she mentioned Zack.
Why would cloud ask her “are you angry?” Instead of something like “what’s wrong?” Could it be that he thought that aerith was jealous when cloud answered “ sounds like something I’d do”
This is a HA response and it is clear even for Cloud that Aerith appreciates his honesty in this situation. Besides, she admits herself: "If I was in your shoes. I woulda been up here all the time"

Great video and analysis!. Except that tifa did not ignore cloud when they were younger. This beleave is one of the confusing reasons why people hate her. It was cloud who refused to play with them. In remake, the first flash back of tifa will confirm this. Cloud DID NOT LIKE the other boys, its very obvious he was jealous of the other boys.

@Doomfist69 bro. That makes no sense. How is tifa recreating a scene that we saw cloud have? Also, tifa didn't mean to ignore cloud, she was also shy to talk to him because of the way he is. Specialy when they were getting older. In chapter 11 of rebirth, she points out that cloud would stare at her, then look away, and cloud responds because i was a pain in the ass, meaning that his actitude is what puched tifa away. The OST of the scene you're talking about in Remake is called "False Memory" or something along those lines. It was from Cloud's POV. The entire twist of the LSS scene in OG is that Cloud & Tifa were NEVER actually close friends as children. Jenova (the S-Cells in his body) and his own inferiority complex messed up his memories. He was never in Tifa's friend group to begin with because they weren't friends. Cloud was bullied. Tifa never really paid much attention to him. I mean, they were kids so it's not her fault. Cloud was bullied by her friend group and the adults told Tifa to stay away from him.
Why are people acting like tifa didn't try to calm cloud down at times as well. There's more evidence of tifa and his relationship of being a future couple than aerith and not even including the kiss date.
does it work tho? no it doesn't, she even almost got killed. and it continues to be like that even in Advent Children, where she had enough and actually nagging cloud.
Well except in the original story Cloud doesn't end up with anyone. The devs mentioned this. So there's not really "more evidence of tifa and his relationship of being a future couple." And the devs have already mentioned the Tifa date pretty much just being fan service and not connected to the main story line. And there is literally a whole non optional date with Aerith at the end. Did we play different games?
And Aerith has comforted Cloud as well. Both girls care deeply about Cloud. His dynamic and connection is just different from Aerith. Even the scene with the Black Materia speaks volumes. It's Aerith who snaps Cloud out of Jenova's control, not Tifa despite her attempts. Aerith was in danger and Cloud remembered their first meeting. The beauty of CA is how close they become and how their love grows in such a short time with such huge stakes. Are you forgetting Aerith literally willing to die in order to save Cloud after having one last moment with him? The game itself confirming her love for Cloud?
5:13 Buddy 😂.. Cloud is written as someone who lived a very isolated and routinely focused life in Nibelheim. He sits where he sits in that scene because thats always been ‘his spot’. There’s no shipping consideration made there, he has returned to his home town, and in every scene we have of him at the water tower, he sits there, therefor.. he ignores Aerith’s designation and sits where he.. has always sat. I always loved Cloud and Aerith’s relationship. While Rebirth has squashed the love triangle and cemented Cloud and Tifa to be the defacto couple, I appreciate the warm comradery and spiritual connection they share. Him coping on Aerith’s demise is gonna be rough.

Aerith told Tifa to follow her heart and chase after Cloud when he was trying to stop the plate fall. Aerith doesn’t seem to think what her and Cloud have is a normal relationship. In the Gondala, she says “just until the ride is over” and in their dream date “just play along for a bit”.
This scene is so cute. I also find Aerith’s confidence and emotional intelligence a really inspirational trait. The way she just calmly stated her boundaries and knew her limits. 🥹
One of Aerith's defining characteristics is that she's incredibly lonely. Her loneliness as the final Cetra. Her loneliness from her lack of friends and family (excluding Elmyra), and her lack of a childhood. A lot of people take for granted that they have a hometown. A place to go back to. A place that will always evoke a sense of nostalgia/belonging. Aerith has none of those things. But meeting Cloud gave her a way to have all of those things. Through Cloud, she made friends. She found the place she belongs.

Your comment reminded me of the Resolution scene with Aerith back in Remake. She told Cloud how everything that he says and do meant so much for her. When she met Cloud, her world became bigger and she got to experience things that she never experienced.
It's also important to note how her last wish in their final date in Rebirth is just to spend a day with Cloud. And when they arrived in the Church, she thanked him for everything. Cloud has brought a lot of happiness to Aerith's isolated wolrd.
This is beautiful and well said. It's crazy how Aerith ended up growing into a person that shows nothing but love for the world and everyone in it despite the fact she had every reason under the sun to be resentful and bitter all things considered.
If you read the book that's entirely true. She got to grow up with Elmyra and had a bit of community with them although not her birth mother. She had to hide her identity though

Anyone with at least a small understanding of these characters know that it is not about aerith’s jealousy over cloud and tifa’s romance, but instead aerith’s envy over cloud and tifa’s childhood frienship and connection. This is yet another scene where cloud and aerith are being vulnerable to each other and support each other, especially when you talk to her again. These are the kind of scenes that make their relationship evolve little by little, eventually making them fall in love with each other.

Cloud and Aerith were always meant to be together, they’re soulmates if I’ve ever seen one. I’m not too big on the romance genre in any type of media but Clerith stood out to me in a way nothing ever has before. Their story is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever learnt about. Everything about them is so beautiful. I love them.

Poor Cloud. He lives in conflict with his feelings, thoughts, and memories. He has been through so much in his life.
Their concern for not hurting each other while also wanting to protect each other is so perfect.
Their upbringing were so similar yet so vastly different at the same time.
Where they sit is important too. Just like in the Tifa/Cloud scene. The sword is layed down (emotional guard's off) but there is a corner between them and they can't easily look at each other. Cloud sitting in front of Tifa's window, Tifa barely visible but waving. Always the conflict : he desires to be close and intimate with these girls, but he's just too shy and troubled. I love the empathy in the second scene. This is "Superkind Cloud", a bit of the true Cloud, the one who could spend his day chasing after Tifa's cat even if she wouldn't know. Being able to show it to Aerith is a sign of their deep bond. He is quite secure around her.
Those glimpses of true Cloud coming out to shine around Aerith are always incredible.
Agreed. Putting aside any romantic interest, whether you're a Clerith or a Cloti, he feels comfortable talking to Aerith because she's touched him in such a way that he doesn't feel criticized for being himself, something he probably didn't feel like he got during his childhood in Nibelheim.
This is such loving writing for anyone who grew up in toxic families with unhealthy communication and later encountered this in romantic relationships. Marking boundaries, empathy, active listening, and respect mean so much to healthy relationships and communication.
I also incredibly love how this game subverts your expectations. I'm referring to Cloud, who, because of his inferiority complex and the trauma of rejection, acts cocky and arrogant to avoid showing his softness, sensitivity, and vulnerability. Aerith may initially seem like a childish and superficial extrovert with lots of friends, but as you get to know her better, she reveals herself to be the most mature and empathic character in ff7, who is tragically lonely because of her race, childhood in captivity, and destiny. Tifa, on the other hand, may seem like a successful girl with a big goal and a grown-up to rely on, but in reality she doesn't feel confident because of her personality, she can't even deal with her own emotions, let alone anyone else's, and her attention is too focused on the romantic drama between her and Cloud, who she would like to lean on as a crutch.
I just love so much how carefully the devs have written all these characters.

It's interesting, This whole scene happens with Aerith's knowing that Tifa told her Cloud was never there 5 years ago. So when Cloud points the inn he stayed 5 years ago, she lets it go and continues to talk about other things.
I really wished they used "Let's head down". It just sounds better and her response makes more sense. Also, I played both Spanish subs that the game offers and they have the same issues. In Latin American Spanish, it's "I'm going to" and the Spain Spanish is "Let's" which only gives me the idea that both of those teams got different scripts, with the Latin getting the American Script (they do almost a one to one) and the Spain getting the Japanese. Small words can change the context and meaning for scenes like these in a big way. It's frustrating to lose that because the vision of the original writer gets muddled or lost. Forgot to add! Wow that's upsetting to learn about more TL issues. There are numbers of them throughout the entire game that are frustrating. Especially during the alter when Cloud says "I got this," in JP it's "wait for me." Massive differences here 😔

For instance the last cut scene, in French like in Jp, Aerith doesn’t ask Cloud to promise anything. She just encourages him.
Or, but it’s more because of the specificity in French, when Sephiroth talks to Aerith during the dream date « that’s where you have been hiding … » it seems that he is talking about Cloud and Aerith and not just only about her. That may change his true motivation …

Oh my goodness!!! It's finally here. This is just one of my most favorite Clerith scenes in Rebirth. Their emotional maturity made my heart warm. Their at the point where they truly understand each other.
Aerith is usually hiding her sadness and feelings with her smiles but at this moment, she opened up to Cloud. And she has learned that Cloud is going to accept her anger even though he's not at fault on anything. Her reply to him made me shed a tear I guess when I first seen this haha. I just love how she didn't treat Cloud like an emotional punch bag. Because that would've hurt a lot.
And thanks to this analysis, I realized that I've missed one great point. And that is Cloud going down alone and not pushing Aerith further. Ahhhh!!!! I love this water tower scene and Nojima-san described it perfectly💗.

I btw wanted share so observation I did, and shared in earlier video but don’t know if you saw it. Hear your thoughts or opinion. Sorry that I’m commenting that again: I have one observation that I like to share and maybe discuss with fellow sane ff7 fans. I was watching TikTok and they used the spinning in loveless play as proof that Cloti is canon and by reading the comments from both sides bc there are many new players not knowing which game it is and who is who, and Cloti using it to poison and brainwash them and Clerith ofc telling the truth under those comments, but as I read the article about Tifa date and just about the GS dates and how they are not canon more fan service with dating sim simulator. I came to conclusion that Cloud in those scenes is portraying the player. In Tifa date Cloud is inconsiderate, aggressive and touchy like Clotis. He doesn’t care about his own feelings, fooling himself and blind to the truth which his own intentions are showing much like Clotis, and he doesn’t care about Tifa feelings and needs and treats her like physically pleasing thing like Clotis. On the other hand Clerith are more gentle, and love natural flow of the things from OG FF7 with knowing how Cloud feels and respecting that as well respecting and understanding Aerith feelings. That’s why Aerith date is like original bc we like what the story is telling. Not fooling ourselves with something that isn’t existing bc we have boner for some girl like certain part of fandom does all the time (sorry for my wording but I’m pissed off so that’s why I wrote what I wrote. But ofc I can change wording if it’s too rude or offensive ^^)
Yeah the scene is peak from start to finish, a lot can be applied in our real life relationships from this scene.

I'd also like to add that in the plays between Aerith and Tifa as Rosa, Cloud seems to be more aggressive with Tifa even in the dream sequence with her; hes super aggressive and stoic. However when he pulled Aerith in while they were dancing, it seemed more natural and gentle.
Aerith's lonely childhood has been a significant narrative thread throughout Remake and Rebirth, and I feel like it’s all leading to something crazy in part 3. It will probably be the Lifestream event, and I think that it will be healing for both her and Cloud. If Aerith is able to observe or interact with Cloud’s memories in the Lifestream, she could witness firsthand the isolation and loneliness he endured as a child, drawing an emotional parallel to her own childhood experiences.
Imagine this: Aerith realizes she’s inside Cloud’s memories, and as she delves deeper, she feels his pain and is reminded of her own childhood. This causes her to regress to her younger self. Seeing a young Cloud and Aerith interact would be wild. They could share moments together, playing and comforting each other, as both of their old wounds begin to heal.
This would be a fitting narrative tie-in to Aerith’s desire to find the “real” Cloud. It would also offer Cloud a deeper understanding of Aerith, allowing him to see beyond the cheerful flower girl to the lonely child she once was, and the pain she hides. The scene could conclude with them returning to their adult selves in a full-circle moment where they’ve revisited and, in a sense, “corrected” their lonely pasts. Now, they’d be facing the future together, with a stronger bond. Wouldn't that be cool?
This would be extremely poet and I would be all for something to this tune narratively. Especially the childhood parallels here, would be peak.
Right, Cloud and Tifa's realtionship is way out of sync - there's zero balance. Their out of sync melody would never change its' tune either. They just don't belong together. Whereas Cloud and Aerith are complimentary one to the other, a melody well written. Cloud could never find true inner and outer happiness if he ended up with Tifa as he would with Aerith, she is whom he'd find his true Promised Land.

I remember when I first watched this scene, I found it interesting they had made it a CloudxAerith scene since, up until that point, its always been a Cloud and Tifa memory. Something that the Cloti fans always like to bring up is the water tower scene and now...its a CloudxAerith scene instead. It no longer belongs with just Tifa. And unlike Cloud and Tifa's scene, where it feels like Tifa pressures Cloud to make a promise, this scene is so amazing and, as you said, Cloud feels no pressure here. It just feels like another great scene that showcases the past is the past, but the present/future is what's important (which is CloudxAerith of course). Also, they showed this scene at the FFVII Rebirth Orchestra...
"And is growing evermore..." Love the evermore reference from Promises to Keep at the end ❤

This is a brilliant breakdown of another Cloud-Aerith scene! It really reinforces my observation that while Cloud and Tifa has chemistry, no denying that, Cloud and Aerith's chemistry is just better.
Plain and simple you said it here, there are connections and feelings amongst both girls, LTD for sure. But Aerith and Cloud's dynamic is on another level.

Another layer here is Cloud not wanting to hurt Tifa by being in their spot with Aerith, her bff, and unfortunately romantic competition.
Aerith didn't know it's Tifa's & Cloud's spot where she's sitting. When she waves cutely at Tifa, I know Tifa died inside a little bit. Cloud feels this. She knows Aerith doesn't know and smiles and waves like nothings wrong. Tifa once again, can see the Clerith love deepening. Cloud didn't wave cuz he's embarrased, wanted to respect Tifa by not appearing enthused, and he's reliving his painful childhood being left out & unfairly taking the blame for Tifa's benefit/well being.
I really hope the devs have a bff Aerith & Tifa scene where they promise each other whoever Cloud chooses, they'll never stop being bffs. ❤
This whole scene really supports the ending scenes by showing how deep their love, boundaries, communication, and their respect for each other go. Holding hands back to back hits harder thanks to this scene.

If you remember the ending in ToTP, SPOILER***********she accepts her past but is very intent on moving on. At the water tower, her past comes back.
There's some lines Aerith says like, "OK moving on." & "Gotta look forward, not back." She wants to leave the past behind & at the water tower she's reminded of the childhood, innocence, and mom Hojo stole from her. Part of the reason she's so good at communicating to Cloud is because of the trauma Hojo put her thru. She needed to listen & communicate well for her safety & mom. She has massive empathy & emotional intelligence cuz she's had the worst life.

The funny thing is, I actually opt not to talk with her after the affinity scene in my first playthrough because I just thought it's gonna be another short line like how the previous interactions work. The beach, Gongaga, etc. Why would the 1 important scene that happen is when I decided not to do it? So unfortunate.

Now, I do know that I can sneak a photo, what I didn't realized is that there's actually up to 4 photos that I can take. I only took the first one and everytime Aerith turns around, I quickly looked away. Because I really thought I'm taking her picture secretly. Haha, another misfortune.

They can't even weaponize Zack anymore because Zerith got nuked in Rebirth and Zack is basically Cloud's wingman now.
Hi, saw your second video after the “secret scene” one. Really like your explanations, sometimes it provides a new perspective. I didn’t attribute Cloud not sitting next to Aerith to his worries about her feelings for Zack - that makes a lot of sense. I thought he was just being awkward.
This scene was significant to me since it added a lot of humanity to Aerith. Before she seemed almost too perfect - always cheerful, optimistic etc. I liked they showed she had some emotional struggles as well. I remember how I immediately felt she got much more balanced as a character during my first play through.

I believe it's a combination of many things to consider there, not just Cloud being worried about Aerith's feelings for Zack. I'll do a vid on the gondola date at some point and I'll go into more detail on that vid about it.
Yeah showing that Aerith isn't perfect and struggles with her emotions and feelings is great and gives her character more depth. Even with the Gongaga scene with the discussion on Zack, Aerith still struggles with not getting proper closure and shows she really is human I liked seeing a lot.

About the parallel with the Gold Saucer I’d say that He acts that way because he really remembers Zack at that moment, that they were friends, he knows they were together and that he is probably dead. He doesn’t know if Tifa told Aerith about it so he doesn’t know how to act with her.
Yeah once he and she got into the seat, he immediately shifted from the relaxed gentleman to a stiff, cold and distant behavior. He was repulsed by the fact that she's still in relationship with Zack as she didn't give him the answer he wanted to hear. He tried to keep the proper manner but was conflicted inside, resulting in a very weird stature.
As with Tifa during the date, he's been acting like a silly boy all the way until they sat face-to-face, learning from Tifa that Aerith might still have feelings for Zack. At that time, his true self revealed, wanting to conquer the heart of his childhood dream. He reverted back to the silly boy as they exited the date.

Cloud is more true self with Aerith, and his sadness visible in Cloti date and the fact it’s never mentioned and you need to watch Clerith dream date, where Cloud wants to go more dates with Aerith and seeing how she confesses her feelings with Zack accepting the truth and taking it like champ must hurt. Part 3 will be less painful if you open up to the real story of ff7 not your head canons that never took place or misinterpretation that is only in your head when the game is telling something different.

Cloud shows his true self unconsciously around Aerith when he's not trying to pretend to be a SOLDIER. When sitting with Aerith in the date, with her confusing answer about Zack, he got tensed up because he's conflicted, torn between his feelings for her and his manner - knowing that she might still have feelings for Zack.
Cloud shows his true self, dreaming to be accepted by Tifa as since a child, when he's in private with Tifa, both in Remake and in Rebirh date scenes. To be accepted by Tifa has always been his dream since childhood. And it's part of his true self.
Cloud -> Aerith or Cloud -> Tifa are pretty much player's choice in OG and in Remake.
The main story though is about Aerith -> Cloud AND Tifa -> Cloud. They both like Cloud and it's not player's choice nor optional. Their feelings for Cloud are both main stream. No need to ship nor fantasize.
Even the affinity system is about the NPC's affection towards Cloud based on what the player made Cloud to say.

But with no reason he brings Aerith's feeling in the date asking things he already knows and keeps insisting. Then all of sudden, maybe because he realized that he hurt her, he switches back to that fake Soldier persona; the one full of confidence, the one who takes charge, the one who was flirting with her at the bar in Remake. The person he thinks he needs to be to please Tifa.
At the end of both high affinity dates Cloud gave the girls what they wanted.
Aerith wants someone to "take her hand" like in her song and Tifa wanted to have a Hero that would take care of her, materialized by the kiss she wanted in Gongaga.
But there is only one date that shows an evolution at the end and it's the Aerith one. This time Cloud is the one handing his hand to her.
It's a good parallel with what we see trough the game; Cloud and Aerith are moving forward, growing their bond, being honest to each other and showing their vulnerability while in the same time with Cloud and Tifa we are more in a "one step forward two steps" back situation.
The best example is Cloud telling Tifa he didn't like being alone when he was a kid and the chapter that follows Tifa is laughing at Barret's joke about him being a loner.

In the next dialogue, I always found it odd that Cloud immediately jumped to the conclusion that Aerith was angry at him even he answered honestly (3 stars). I think Cloud was putting his feelings into Aerith's shoes to judge, meaning he was thinking, worried that Aerith was angry at him because she was romantically jealous like he was upset when she mentioned Zack.

Great video and analysis!. Except that tifa did not ignore cloud when they were younger. This beleave is one of the confusing reasons why people hate her. It was cloud who refused to play with them. In remake, the first flash back of tifa will confirm this. Cloud DID NOT LIKE the other boys, its very obvious he was jealous of the other boys.

Also, tifa didn't mean to ignore cloud, she was also shy to talk to him because of the way he is. Specialy when they were getting older. In chapter 11 of rebirth, she points out that cloud would stare at her, then look away, and cloud responds because i was a pain in the ass, meaning that his actitude is what puched tifa away. It was not entiry his fault, it was the villages fault for blaming him the day he and tifa felt out the bridge. I dont beleave not one bit tifa purposely kicked cloud out of her group.

The OST of the scene you're talking about in Remake is called "False Memory" or something along those lines. It was from Cloud's POV. The entire twist of the LSS scene in OG is that Cloud & Tifa were NEVER actually close friends as children. Jenova (the S-Cells in his body) and his own inferiority complex messed up his memories. He was never in Tifa's friend group to begin with because they weren't friends. Cloud was bullied. Tifa never really paid much attention to him.
I mean, they were kids so it's not her fault. Cloud was bullied by her friend group and the adults told Tifa to stay away from him.

Well except in the original story Cloud doesn't end up with anyone. The devs mentioned this. So there's not really "more evidence of tifa and his relationship of being a future couple." And the devs have already mentioned the Tifa date pretty much just being fan service and not connected to the main story line. And there is literally a whole non optional date with Aerith at the end. Did we play different games?
Official sources from Devs themselves confirm in AC/DoC that Tifa and Cloud are just childhood friends.
And Aerith has comforted Cloud as well. Both girls care deeply about Cloud. His dynamic and connection is just different from Aerith. Even the scene with the Black Materia speaks volumes. It's Aerith who snaps Cloud out of Jenova's control, not Tifa despite her attempts. Aerith was in danger and Cloud remembered their first meeting.
The beauty of CA is how close they become and how their love grows in such a short time with such huge stakes. Are you forgetting Aerith literally willing to die in order to save Cloud after having one last moment with him? The game itself confirming her love for Cloud?
5:13 Buddy 😂.. Cloud is written as someone who lived a very isolated and routinely focused life in Nibelheim. He sits where he sits in that scene because thats always been ‘his spot’.
There’s no shipping consideration made there, he has returned to his home town, and in every scene we have of him at the water tower, he sits there, therefor.. he ignores Aerith’s designation and sits where he.. has always sat. Thats it 😂

I still haven't ended the game because of how boring it was and bought the game on day 1. It still doesn't hold a candle to the original which was edgy, brutal, dystopic, dark and it was for grown ups. The remake was alright. Rebirth is just sludge. The card game is literally the highlight of the game. Everything else just sucks. I don't know if I will ever complete rebirth now. It was a disappointment.

Anyways Aerith has always wore ribbons, well before the Zack one. Explain in detail how Aerith is a CT shipper? Your kiss was optional, no way around that, and was never referenced again for the remainder of the game. You also had to see Aerith and Cloud dating after that "kiss." Aerith told Tifa to follow her heart and chase after Cloud when he was trying to stop the plate fall.
Aerith doesn’t seem to think what her and Cloud have is a normal relationship. In the Gondala, she says “just until the ride is over” and in their dream date “just play along for a bit”.
This scene is so cute. I also find Aerith’s confidence and emotional intelligence a really inspirational trait. The way she just calmly stated her boundaries and knew her limits. 🥹
