I know better than to listen to these wonderful songs. It nearly kills me because it makes me long for those days so much. When I was young, I didn't realize I was young. Now that I am at the other end of life, it really hurts to think back. Love you Billy Joe
Don't stop dreaming 😴.... I never do ✨💤💤💔
It kills me, sitting in a classroom with tears in my eyes. Oh, to be able to go back.
I'm almost 80. This video instantly took me back to the 50's when I was in high school. My wife and my friends are all gone now, have to fight back the tears.
Bill Stokes...hey, sugar. I remember it bc my sister played it often. Times have surely changed and my loved ones are gone too but life is good. Stay safe and be loved...
@@diedrapayne6202 Thank you so much . Be careful in these trying times and stay healthy.
@Bill Stokes You too? I'm 65 and can remember Billy Joe Royal's songs really well. My late sister Susan (Susie) used to tickle me until I'd sing these songs for her and her girlfriends, Down in the boondocks, Hey Everybody, by Tommy Roe, and many many more as I could do them so well you'd of thought I had a secret recorder hidden somewhere, still can belt them out on occasion. Still having tears remembering his songs.
@@velikovskysghost Aint it funny how time slips away?
@@nogoglobal Yes it is funny. Funny thing about it is I don't think we are supposed to age so fast, and in fact I have many ideas using soft experiments that may help slow down the process and in some cases even reverse the aging processes. Billy Joe Royal's "Down in the Boondocks" was my song when I was 11,12,13,14 and 15, I can still do his voice to a tee, along with so many others, including Elvis, and thought those times would never end.
One of the best versions of this song. I always loved his voice. He just never seemed to quite get the credit his talent deserved.
Bill Joe royal is an amazing singer the man is a legend in his time. I'm 74 and still rocking. Thank you for memories. 💕😢
This makes me cry every time I play it. I got to see Billy Joe Royal at open concert in Alabama back in the 70's. The video takes me back to what school, the cars, and all the memories and it makes me wish I could go back to the 50's when life was so different as a young teenager.
Your so rite when your young you don't realize how good things are especially back in the 60s 70s &80s into the 90s times were so much better
When I was just a kid around 10 or 11 I could sing Billy Joe Royal songs like I had a hidden tape recorder up my sleeve. My late sister Susan (Susie) used to tickle me until I'd sing them for her and her girlfriends, still can do one of my all time Billy Joe Royal songs, (Down in the Boondocks) but not without a few tears. Thank you Louispollaro for this wonderful posting.
Freaking cool dude!!!!!!!!
Haven't heard his voice in a long time! But he stills sings great!🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🗺🗺🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🗺🗺🗺🗺🗺🗺🗺🗺🌐🌐🌐
I recall as a kid in early 1970s was looking forward to be a teen or adult. Seemed like it took forever. Funny how time slips away.
AT 82 stumbled on this gem......Sorry to learn of his passing....
I'm 73 now and this was a trip down memory lane. Outlived most of my friends and classmates, so in that sense, it made my heart hurt to go back there. Loved it, thanks.
I'm 65, and still, LOVE these oldie😀
Funny...... Ain't it funny How time slips away.......1963...... Wonderful song right here......
As this video portrays, America in the mid-20th Century was a great country and we were lucky to be young then
Agree
Billy Joe Royal had song amazing songs... This was one of my favorites... Great growing up with his music..
+Cynthia's Channel Thanks Cynthia....Great song and video R.I.P. Billy Joe.
Welcome to my channel Keoniwa929 Nice to see you over here.. Yes Billy Joe Royal's music was such a pleasure growing up with....
Thank You..
everything he sang turned into sheer magic! very much missed!
Missing my life, way back then. Billy captured my good memories with his beautiful voice.
So true it does I will be 60 this year and so much has changed.
Billy Joe Royal is so great he has such a beautiful voice . I have had the pleasure of seeing him four times which has been the happiest time of my life .My very favorite song he sings is Funny How Time Slips Away.
+Theresa Miller Hey! If you were ever able to meet him, I'd love to know about your blessing when you have time to tell me about it! I love reading about his other fans getting to see him. I couldn't be anymore ashamed to admit that it wasn't until after his going forward that I became the fan of him that I will never stop being now, I love him so much, so anything that you can share with me about your getting to see him will be so very much appreciated.
God bless you and his family always!!!

P.S. So far, I have purchased 18 CDs and 3 records of his singing and the VHS containing 6 of his videos as well as the black shirt with an awesome shot of him on the front of it with the album name Out Of The Shadows going down its left side. My next objective is to get the 27 songs that I know that I still don't have yet because they apparently were only made available on the B side of his single records when they were released. How else can you tell someone who isn't here anymore that you love them?
Louis, This video is Brilliant. Thank you for posting it, and Rest In Peace, Billy Joe. You may be gone, but through your music, you will never be forgotten.
What a voice. Loved this man.
So Agree!! my teens were not till the late 70's- 80's but still Love this music. Still Do !! Billy was superb!!!
I went to R.L. Osborne and Billy Joe went to Campbell High in Smyrna but I was friends with the girl that lived next door to him and so I became friends with his younger sister Marilyn.....so I got to meet B.J. and we even got to watch and enjoy his "band" when they practiced . They were good and he was cute, what else could a teenage girl want back in the late 50's. He was a really sweet guy and not 'stuck up' or thought he was 'IT'.....he was cool.........
Jimmy Bryant..
So many fond dreams
I think he does a tremendous job of singing this song. His and Jimmy Elledge versions are my favorite, nobody else can beat them. Thank you for the pleasure of enjoying such great talent.
I love you always and forever!!
I just learned that Willie Nelson wrote this song. Billy Joe Royal was one of my favorite singers in the 1960s, when I was in high school. He came to Redding, California in, I think, 2000. I had to see him in person, more than 30 years since I used to play his records over and over and over, driving one of my sisters crazy. I'm sad to learn that he left this word in 2015.
I knew Billy Joe in Savannah when I dropped out of Georgia for 9 months to work. He and Joe South packed The Bamboo Ranch every night. He married a friend of mine. We all told her it wouldn't last. She was nuts over Billy Joe. The marriage didn't last long. It was a tough go for her. However, Billy Joe had a beautiful voice. He did have a few hits nationally. I hear him on the 60's radio station occasionally.
+Kenny Youmans Hey! I really do not mean to pry here, but I can't help but wonder because it is such a mystery to me right now. I have read that Billy Joe was married a total of three times and every one of the marriages ended in divorce. If that is all true, do you have any idea what the heck happened? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that about him! Out of everything that I have seen of him so far, his chats, his clips etc, the beautiful precious doesn't strike me as the cheating kind, but as a dude who couldn't have been more of a gentleman. What in the world happened?
God bless you and his family always!!!

Last Friday, May 4, 2018, I went to an All Class Reunion for Jenkintown High School, in the NW subs of Philly. It seems like I spent the better part of the evening saying hello to people that I had not seen in over 50 years. There was one particular girl, an old neighbor, that I had not seen in 51 years. So this song is very appropriate to the occasion.
A beautiful song
Wonderful video. Wonderful singer.....
LOVE THIS MANS MUSIC, HE KNOWS HOW TO TOUCH THE HEARTSTRINGS
i love the old cars in this video they remind me of my years as a teenager
Love this version.....Yessssss.....Well Hello There.......
I enjoyed it. Reminded me of MY past, and brought tears to my eyes!
A wonderful presentation of days gone by. Great scenes, Billy Joe has a voice that cannot be matched by anyone. His phrasing is unique to him alone. We had the pleasure to meet him and perform on a fundraiser show with him. His voice blew us away. A real humble gentelman. The Reflections from Detroit.
The Reflections Oddly enough, was just listening to Tom Meros talking with Nick Marinelli! :)
Fantastic singer and great song remember this song and great singer thank you for this lovely post
I may be a fan of Elvis but in all honesty BJR definitely did good with this number and many others. He just earned a new fan.

Awesome song from Billy Joe Royal from 1963... Growing up with his song was amazing..

Still have memories of ole Denison High School even if we lost the fight to keep the building standing we have this great video and our good memories of our times there.
When I went there in -63; it was McDaniel Jr. High. Many happy memories sitting on those steps w the girlfriends! Sharon Terrell Spencer, NM
Good song. Good singer. And,yes it is funny how time slips away.
Rest in peace Billy Joe. Just like other greats, Gene and Phil to name two, you will be missed. Your music will live on in our hearts.
Wow do i remembers theses day’s!!!!!
How I loved his music
I won't Blame anyone who doesn't believe what I'm about to say, which is why I VERY RARELY say it, but Billy Joe is my Father, him and my Mother dated when he played at the " Bamboo Ranch " in 1962, I was born in Beaufort, S.C. at the Naval hosp. I've met him a dozen times or so , talked to him on the phone about the same. He did get to meet his granddaughter, who is the same age as his daughter Savanna. I REALLY wish now ,I would have made more of an effort to connect with him. Don't put things off....you never know when it Wil be too late. Thanks ,Del..
Hang on to whatever memories of him that you have with all that you have in you because there are those like me who would give anything for just one, if only I had discovered him sooner.
God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!!

I'm from Marietta, Ga. Billy Joe's hometown. Grew up listening to him. RIP. Great video!

This has to be the best version of this song performed by anyone.
I agree and relate to how the story is told....I'm thankful for the fond memories mainly at Grady High School, Atlanta, and Kubasaki High School, Okinawa...
Listen to Elvisi"s version
I played keyboards for him back in 98... He was the real deal. Strong voice, great pitch... and best guy you could ever work for..

THIS WAS MY DADDY'S VERY FAVORITE!! ME I LOVE ANYTHING MY FRIEND SUNG!! MISS YOU SO MUCH!
Great singer
The best version ever recorded
I know that in a lot of ways, its better late than never, but the more that I watch and listen to this beautiful precious, the more ashamed of myself it is that I grow for my not getting into him sooner, I love him so much now and now its too late to tell him that to his face and I hate it. Y'all who got to spend whatever time with him it is that you got to spend with him, I pray that you treasure that time because having the ability to be in such a group of people is something that I would give anything to have now that I know how much it is that I missed out on. (trying not to cry again)
God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly, like I said before in another video....I love you girl. I love your passion for him. I have loved him all my life, since the 60's. I was one of those lucky people that loved him when I was young and had an older brother that introduced me to music I wouldn't have know if not for him. I am a music FANATIC so I think I know how you feel a little bit. Billy Joe was awesome. You have good taste. His voice was like no other. It's amazing that I am liking somebody I have never met just because we have the same LOVE for this person. You have never met him and you love him. I fell in love with his voice before I even knew who he was or what he looked like. Remember this was the middle 60's, we had three tv channels and if you wanted to see what someone on the radio looked like you had to have the album, not just the 45 (record). SO we heard a lot of music on radio and never knew what they looked like until they were on tv.
Were you ever able to meet him?
God bless you and his family always!!!

This song brought forth incredible waves of lost memories welling up in my eyes. My speech stayed silent with no words to tell their story; but my tears sold their soul in ways all could hear.
Thank you for this wonderful video, heartfelt and bittersweet of a man who came alive again and lives in a time I cannot forget.
