      Damn...Mark Twain is jus the best. And so prolific. Literally just a few minutes ago I liked another comment, on a video about some political bullshit, where someone commented another Twain quote. I'm paraphrasing but it was something like, "don't try to argue with idiots bc you'd have to bring yourself down to their level and they would win the argument bc they have more experience."
      Twain should've been a rapper...lol

    What always gets me about Kane is the slow and measured way in which he speaks versus his rapid fire rhyme style. It's like 2 different people.

      I never thought of Kane's rap style as rapid, to me he was measured. To the point that you understood ever word he spoke. Twista or even Pun I would label as having a rapid fire style as opposed to Kane.

      With all respect. You are doing good but you can find ways to fill in the gaps so your kids don't grow up not knowing that love and affection from a parent can teach them how to have empathy in the world. The world lack empathy so its easier to justify the levels of violence that we see. I wish you well on the journey. If you haven't get some therapy so you can show up even more to raise your kids the best way you can. I was blessed to have both of my parents and have seen the many results of some kids that came from troubled homes. All the best.

    • @lifestraight
      @lifestraight Před 2 lety +4

      Yeah you have to do both for good parenting in my eyes. Paying the bills, keeping a roof over your child's head, putting them in good schools is great, but it doesn't equate to love and even so you still need to verbalize the love and affection for your child.

  • @Christian-eq6pq
    @Christian-eq6pq Před 2 lety +21

    I think what Kane is saying also applies to the reason so much of why the music today sounds the way it does today versus back then. Now you got so many rappers trying to make music in the now and for the little kids to get lit to, they not even thinking about the future and leaving a legacy.
    Not every song in the 90’s was NY State of Mind but there was a lot more Quality Control and more maturity because we had “oldheads”. Now you get made fun of for being old.

    • @rgw1380rw
      @rgw1380rw Před 2 lety +2

      The variety of music/artists, plus old school parenting was swept aside for a reason. In the 80's/early 90's, those real hard heads were who they were while listening to groups like Guy or even the popular House Music that was also heavy in the streets. Nowadays, I occasionally cross paths with a younger guy that seems to be trying to intimidate me by quoting the most ignorant rap lyrics known to mankind, while pacing back and forth with the gun gestures.

    • @tima.478
      @tima.478 Před 2 lety +1

      The music now, is made for now. In Kane's day, (mine as well), music was made to ring out for generations. At least that was the goal of every Emcee.

  • @KD_SWAGGER
    @KD_SWAGGER Před 2 lety +17

    Big Daddy Kane is dropping jewels when it comes to being an OG or old head. Getting older is a privilege denied by many. Be fortunate to grow old. Take care of your body with exercise, water, sun, air and vitamins. Stay away from stress as well!

    • @rgw1380rw
      @rgw1380rw Před 2 lety +2

      Quite a few of the younger crowd will use "old head" as some sort of insult. I truly believe that the system that began to regulate old school parenting preferred profit over having some order. Back then, your parents had people in your community that weren't your blood relatives, but they had the ability to check you with your parent/parents support. When old school parenting became something that could get you locked up, that took the "extended family" away, then the youth were just able to do as they please. The more unruly youth are groomed to be that way, the more profitable the youth become to the systems that make big bank off of the disorder. You're always going to have the knucklehead crowd, but there was a bit more order with those guys at one point. Everything now is about being a "savage" or on "demon time" a bit too much. Some of the new breed don't know when to cut that sort of bs out, and chill.

      it always moves, like 15 year olds be thinking 20 year olds are old, and so on. It's relative. But I do think what we describe as old generally is way too early. People be stamped legit old when they're 30+, and considering you live until 80+ that is way too early based on mathematical logic. If I reflect I guess there might be some logic to it if you think that old is when you start getting signs of age, which is usually 30+, not sure if that is the angle they are coming from when they call that old.
      I remember I went back to school at like 23, and I overheard some of the other students, who were 17 year olds, be like "wow he's old". So funny to think back to that now at 33, I mean 23.... that's a baby lol. And funny to think that I felt old at that time, and now to imagine being 23 is like damn that is young.

    Brotha Math i need a favor. DAYTON OHIO support 1000 percent. Please give a segment on the effect of these men not having fathers and only being raised buy single females. I feel that as a culture were making it to normal. Like yall said. It take a village. So if you even see this just know Its not for me. I need some of these dudes to realize they need help. We deserve to live long happy lives too. Stay blessed and stay real. Your pod cast is number 1 at this point. Go to place for real shit.

    Kane dropped a jewel that I have shared with my own children. Parents will give their children the thing they didn’t have as a child. I always say being present for my children was more important to me than anything I had going on personally.

    I'm 42 now. I'm part of the generation they would tell that we are all going to be dead or in jail by 21. And I've doubled that, a lot of us have. I'm now a father to a 21 year old daughter, I'm still here, still current on the trends and things of that nature. And an avid hip-hop fanatic. I get called UNC and OG a lot. And I be like "I was just thuggin 4 years ago, when did I become a relic?". So I'm definitely feeling all this.

    Speechless. I can't believe yall got Kane and Epps on the same episode. If you haven't experienced the 80s and 90s I wish you were there. Witnessing hip-hop culture grow right in front of your eyes 24/7 was like a cheat code. So to have those 2 is like a lifetime achievement.
