- Did you know you can replace the filaments in LED lamps? In this video we show how you can save the planet by doing massive eco repairs on super LED lighting tech.
Note that every step of this project carries a risk of injury and fatal electrocution.
In case you hadn't worked it out, this is a spoof video. But on the basis that most people don't actually read the description I fully expect it to be hated by lots of angry thumb-downs. But that's OK ('cos that makes it even funnier.)

Top tip. No need to buy filaments from china. Every time you buy one of these fabulous LED light bulbs, buy a SECOND light bulb as well. When one fails, break open the second bulb and remove the filament to repair the first one. It will be as good as new. You can then throw away the second light bulb as it won't work with a filament missing. If you wish, you can buy a THIRD or FOURTH bulb as well and keep replacing those filaments.
That, Sir is brilliant!
Handy tricks manufacturers _don't_ want you to know.
Love it!
Mmm. Seems legit.
It's the Illuminati/Freemasons/Big Pharma who are keeping this valuable information secret. Just see how quickly You Tube will delete this video!
Or just keep the busted one for spar parts and use the non-busted one.
That moment when you log into CZcams after a night of drinking find a big Clive video and then go "he is drunker than I am this is going to be good"
TheChipmunk2008 love it great comment for a great video
TheChipmunk2008 Damn! I laughed so hard that I spitted on my phone. Lolz
« Now we’re going to make it safe with sticky tape »
I feel like this quote can be used at exactly anytime in life
Sex
Lewis Kelly it's like a condom just painful!
Depleted sticky tape dispensers can be rejuvenated very effectively in this way..
in my experience, mains wire does not need to be taped, the oxide layer on the solder is more than enough, i have been in the industry for 400 years and have 14 doctorates in solder
true! I would also swap that current regulator with a 220 -> 3v LINEAR regulator and hotmelt everything in place! No way that can go wrong
IscleGaming | ZefaCraft I actually had a nightlight wired that. Holy hell, they were intentionally looking to kill people.
"And Now For Something Completely Different" This was HILARIOUS ! Well done Clive. "Sticky Tape" for the win !!!
Have you been partaking of Ralfy's whiskey again?
That was my first thought as well ;)
Whiskey? This is more crystal meth induced.
"Again"? This implies a stopping point.
The effects from a sufficiently deep dive into Ralfy's collection would most likely be indistinguishable from crystal meth anyways.
Just what I wanted to ask!
In the next episode: sticky tape condoms.
Sticky tape makes *everything* safe.
bdf2718 oh God
Roll of sticky tape and a pair of knitting needles; knit your own.
Or crochet if you're on your own...but then you wouldn't need them.
Were you trying to say that in the next episode, we would see BigClive's LittleClive?
That was bloody genius. Please do more tv-documentary-style narration.
That repair lasted surprisingly long 😂
Reproduction of a 30 cent eBay lamp :) with exact runtime!
Mrs. Doubtfire rides again :)
You beat me to it! Clive's little girls voice.....
Great minds think alike. ;->
So true
"Again"? Would you happen to recall when else he's done this?
Dang, that was a great movie!! I'll have to watch it again... it has been years!
This is a rare archive episode of the kids' show that Mahdi Sadaghdar (Electroboom) watched when he was a wee lad. And we now understand Mahdi a little bit better.
I almost cant notice the bulb was once broken. Amazing reassembly skills!
Loved the perfectly timed failure. Serendipity. LOL
Happy little accidents
Alex Zaballa I think he cheated by using a dimmer switch at the end...
"Oh, shite. That didn't last very long, did it?"
let me spoil the joke for all of your pleasures :D the replacement strip had much fewer LEDs in it so the combined LEDs got overdriven and burned out
"A taking the piss production from BigClive"... :P
The guy's got some style... "Extracting the urine production, by Big Clive"
I just now noticed that the thumbnail was complete with the requisite red arrow pointing at a thing. Cody and Clive both mocking YT clickbait bullshit in the same day? I guess great minds think alike.
A sober BigClive production :D
But is was so good :)
I have tears running down my face as I’ve laughed so hard!😂 You are a hoot!! I removed the metal screw end of the bulb and then it was “Oh no” when you were drawing around the bad LED. My bulb is not clear but white. You really had me going there and when you pulled out the hammer I thought “Hmm, well this is going to be interesting” and broke the glass I laughed so hard I could hardly see from all the tears. My bulb is manufactured by Feit and has a 5 year warranty. It came as a 6-pack of bulbs and as it was about to go into the trash I thought it might be funny just to see how Feit would respond. It may be good for a giggle 😅
As soon as you smashed the bulb I knew what you were going to do. Many years ago as a poor uni student, my cat jumped onto one of the large wall mounted globe lights and smashed it in my rental house. Being a struggling uni student who didn't have the money to replace the light fixture, I taped it back together and it was known as the moon light from then on. The cat did knock it off the wall a few more times, but it had soo much tape on it, it just needed to be squished back into a spherical shape.
I think all the fumes have finally got to him.
Prestige Clash it's the lead based solder that done it. He has mad hatter syndrome. Haha. Love his videos!
I've saved so much money by using sticky tape rather than captain's tape. Works just as well and it's not that horrible yellow color. Thanks Clive!
Todd Peterson
Kapton.
Yeah, it's not like you're ever going to use those light bulbs on a boat anyway!
I prefer duck tape.
I'm more of a Cello tape man, myself
I tried video tape. Had to use super glue though.
This is one of the finest Big Clive videos to date. I love the serious and informative ones... but when we get the humour added it becomes a pure joy to watch.
Can't believe I've only stumbled upon this after a year of watching Clive, its brilliant
I'm trying to get this working now... But I'm having some trouble.
What does everything being on fire mean?
roninpawn It means that the repair was successful and totally not deadly.
Not enough sticky tape.
roninpawn *Success*
roninpawn EXTRA POINTS for extra light of course!!
Some of the new filaments emit fire instead of light, which makes it more efficient. You must have gotten one of the new ones.
Wat is dat hot pole U used to melt the metel together?
Is dat a TIG welder?
nope. miter saw.
Dremel. Every good project needs one.
No thats a wrench, read a book my friend.
It's an LED welder, obviously. TIG welders are for TIG lamps.
-signed: your average american
Thank god i was born at the right time in human history to witness the greatness of this channel
Oh man! when the hammer came in I just lost it. It was freaking hilarious.
The intensity of the 'X-Ray' was too high once again.
Lake Nipissing yeah I'm beginning to think that "x-ray" machine is just a bit too intense myself!! ;)
Was so high that is a Gamma ray machine
Oh boy, it's like the 100w led all over again. I'm learning so much!
Clive you have to give this fine example of genius Engineering skill away in a competition
The focus on safety is impressive!
Lovely video Clive. Helped me fix all my LED lamps! Also by using 240v like you suggested those 120v LED lamps are so much brighter!
That is a feature not a defect.
So many really useful tips here - such as using the red marker to hide any blood... and I envy you for your precision glass cutting skills - I really need to get the right kind of hammer for this. I am sooo pleased that the finished repair then failed on camera - what a let down it would have been if it had actually worked. I haven't laughed so much in ages - Thanks Big Clive - you are a gem!
This is one of your very best. Your sense of humor is fantastic.
🤣🤣
Instructions not clear, I actually succeeded without any injury or damage.
Thanks Big Clive I needed a laugh today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clive. This is just a brilliant spoof, with the right “I know everything” intonation in your voice Ace
i couldn't wait for the filaments so i just stuck a bit of brillo pad between the wires but the glass broke too much i think so i used a baby bottle instead and it works a treat. thanks, great vid
Can u taech me how 2 fix my PS4?!? I put it in the shower to clean and it now hisses
It means it's angry at you now, try petting it and feeding it some charcoal.
Replace it with a Wii.
If it hisses after being washed it's not a PS4, it's a snake, and snakes do not likely having disks inserted. Please return the snake and buy a proper PS4 before you try inserting a disk as it may be hazardous to your health.
That means it wasn't your PS4 but your cat you put in the shower.
pyromen321 hiss back at it!
Instructions unclear, my house is on fire, what should I do now?
Sounds like success!
Call the operator, and ask for the number for 911.
*BEST TUTORIAL ON CZcams*
Saved me so much money.
Had one of these have the glass break right as I pulled it out of the package. Perfect circle pretty much around the base leaving like a fishbowl shaped piece of glass. Surprisingly that's been one of the more reliable bulbs I've ever bought because I just threw it into my patio light where it has that glass outer housing anyway.
Now we get an idea of how silly _Clive {Extra Large}_ can be!
The voice puts me in mind of a kiddy show host who goes off the rails and includes age-inappropriate material. "Can you say 'personal lubricant'? Can you make it go slippety-slip?"
What the hell, with the Clive3PO voice. He's fluent in 6 million forms of electric repair! Long live Clive!!!
Thank you for this excellent instructional video. i followed it exactly and have fixed my broken LED globes and plan to spend the savings on Blackjack and hookers. The doctors say I should be able to leave the hospital in just a few weeks. Thanks again! :D
Fantastic, Big Clive, brilliant educational video. So good in fact I'm going to fix some tungsten filament lamps I have laying around the place in the same way. Thank you, Big Clive. Your money saving educational videos are just so good.
Clive, you're the best!
Martel DuVigneaud that he is
Your C3PO impression is spectacular. :D
I find it fits more Brainiac75
rhkips it's actually DIYPERKS who he's impersonating
This had me creased up with laughter! Truly brilliant Clive.
That was indeed fabulous. This has given me the courage to go about the house and do some repairs. What will I need?
1) sticky tape
2) vodka
3)....
That should do it!
Daaamn, Clive with the salt!!!!!
Clive, this was epic. Love the voice
I kept waiting for the act to drop but it didn't 😂 That's commitment to entertainment, Big Clive you rock 🤘
If ever there was a good reason to subscribe to this channel, this is it. That was beautiful.
This was not what I expected when I clicked on it.
lol.
This video ( and many more )is why your the best!!!!
Reg Pollock this is true! Got a good deal of variety, you just never know what he'll be up to next!! :)
Reg it is written "you're" (you are)
Oh Reg!! Search the uTubes for 'Fanny Flambeaux'..! You haven't seen nottin' yet!
Yes, seen that when it came out, and your right.
Reg Pollock You're. Grrr!
I don't know... It's still a lot better than a lot of the dodgy electronic devices I've seen disassembled on this channel. At least it didn't go bang and set the house on fire... but it almost did, and since it had that potential I thought this video was exciting to watch.
I had to replay the vid, I was chortling so much and missed most of your extras! Excellent!
Hey Clive, did that last bottle of whiskey have a little worm, at the bottom of it? LOL
Fantastic! Geezz Clive, how much of Ralfie's whiskey have you had?!
superlight3 I thinks its the fizzy pop rotgut he likes so much
More likely trashy liqueur
Finally something useful from this channel, usually big clive goes on and on about who knows what now hes starting to get down to the meat of eletrons
You just made my Saturday at work much more enjoyable!
More! Please!
Come clean. Who pissed you off?
Night Stranger prolly the asshole that sent wrong size led filaments hahahah aka china hahaha
You'll know after buying something directly from China.
@daniel degg
and @soupflood
That seems to fill in the blanks but I feel that there's something more.
Sounds like DIY Perks on youtube. He speaks exactly his way and words. Maybe they had a pint last night with some discussions
When I see a repair so thorough, I would ask this great repairer to have a look at the lighting of my Ferrari GTC4 which has a small problem.
I learned a long time ago to make sure I am not drinking anything when I watch your videos Clive, just in case a clip like this comes up. 😂
Thanks TOP ECO DIY TIPZ, I just fix my filaments in LED lamp.... It WORKS, ps: for the dumb people, please do not do this. lol
dead roo You have to give natural selection a chance.
Please, dumb people, do this! :D
This voice is going to haunt me in my nightmares
Laughed out loud several times - not many people make me do that! Brilliant Clive!
Give you an Australian accent, and you could be like those wildlife commentators from Australia, always enthusisastic and full of wonder, no matter what happens. Great video.
Oh damn, I busted my sides laughing.
You can fix them with sticky tape. It fixes everything.
Bad bear! Don't snort cocaine!
My heart sank when Clive actually used the soldering iron properly.
Very informative with a pinch of abandonment and sheer cavalier attitude to safety excelled in all areas.
As a one off this was hilarious and I love the fakey-happy voice, but is this something you've been planing (general spoof), or did a DIY-youtuber just post something that showed they needed taken down a peg or two (specific spoof)?
It just spontaneously happened. It may have a slight twist in the direction of a couple of CZcams channels.
Is it DIY Perks? I bet it is.
Clive from a fellow Scot you are as mad as a hatter sir (but luv it)
bigclivedotcom but Clive, it needs to have "AWESOME" in the title.
Might of voided the warranty?!?! ;) LoL
Thanks Big Clive I'm going to try this myself!
soon as i heard the commentary at the start, i thought, here we go again! i love these videos!
the now 10 morrons that downvoted have absolutely no sense of humor at all PERIOD
40 min later that number has doubled LMAO!
yeah lots of those around in the world
It's so dandrus very hurt possibly.
Mister Brookes
Are you thick? Or just bad at writing a parody post?
It's hard to convey sarcasm or parody on the internet, especially with people genuinely believing and getting upset about the weirdest things. No matter what you believe in, there is always someone believing things that are so different that it's hard to discern between parody, trolls, and genuine people.
This voice is scaring and scarring me.
A heterosexual mrs doubtfire.... ;)
Yeah he is clearly gay lad.....
such a gentle touch with the "bulb opening device" the BFH2000
haha, i like the sense of humor, in this project presentation, including some truths told in a loud voice.
I think Clive must of been visiting Washington State in the US and sampled some of the green smoky stuff.
Oh wait the video would of been about food if he had,
OF you gone mad?
You alright Clive? Been messing around with dangerous chemicals again? ;)
Cooking vodka.
That was hilarious Clive, my eyes wouldn't stop streaming. Great work sir.
OMFG I'M DYING!!!! Funny as hell, I like when Clive makes videos like this. Very entertaining my hat is off to you kind sir.
Not enough rosin. It would have been fine if you'd used tons of rosin.
Vrong channel, but the other one is good tew.
i think many people got the reference.
Nice one!
Even more rosin!
Did you know you can repair the old tungsten filament lamp by leaving them switched on and shaking them vigorously until the broken filaments touch and presto, just like magic it will light again. The power should be switched on to make sure the filament welds itself to the other broken half. If you are very lucky there will be a bang when this happens when the broken filament comes into contact with the other half of the broken filament choosing to blow apart with balls of white hot metal flying everywhere. When these white hot balls of metal come in contact with the glass it will shatter the glass allowing the white hot balls of metal to carry on and embed themselves into your skin and eyes if lucky. This is good as you can then grab the filament while it is still white hot and twist it together. This will be an effective repair and electrocution all in one, however, the repair will be completed when a member of your family or a close friend glues the shattered glass together with super glue and tests the lamp, which will now only give a nice red glow for about 10 seconds then go pop. After this your friend can arrange your funeral providing he has not touched the live element of the bulb exposing themselves to an electric shock hazard. However, if they have it will be very good value with the bulb having killed two for the price of one.
DISCLAIMER: Do not try this at home as there is a severe risk of electric shock from electricity, you will be at risk of cuts and being burned by white hot glass which may also burn and embed itself in your skin. Also there is a risk of your hair standing on end, your manhood shrinking from high current, high voltage electricity and your balls falling off.
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. (You may however try it in a neighbours home where your family can sue them for allowing you to do something dangerous leading to risk of death)!
bob4jjjj I actually did this by accident one time. The lamp on my desk went out, so I shook it and the filament welded itself back together and the lamp worked for several years afterward.
bob4jjjj lol I actually do that all the time ....
Les say the risk of a resonance cascade senario is limited with big low power lamp.
One of the Best, if not THE best, Clive videos. I couldn't stop grinning and giggling :D
I’ve never laughed so hard at one of your videos. I’ve watched for a long time and stumbled upon this gem. Brilliantly hilarious!😂
Oh god
Hahaha big Clive does blue Peter......
not the children’s programme, his boyfriend who has bad circulation 😂
That's the happiest rant I've ever heard. Rather marvelous video.
Great video, woke up feeling a bit low, by the time I had watched this I was set up for the day.
Ha Ha you silly sod :-D,
What triggered this outbreak of madness, a silly channel perhaps?.
I find the lack of hot-snot glue suspiciously lacking for a DIY video.
Also, does this guy even know electric? He didn't even bother to change the caps. Every *SERIOUS* DIYer knows that's the *first* thing you do.
Sarcasm aside, changing the puffed caps more often than not actually revived my dead electronics.
It's not for nothing changing the capacitors have become a bit of a meme.
Electrolytics don't age that well and are of a sensitive nature.
If they have puffed up, changing them is a good idea. If it's and older piece of electronics that isn't working properly or reliably it might be a good idea to try changing the electrolytics even if they've not popped the top as the electrolyte has a tendency to dry out with age and use.
So, yes. Sarcasm aside, faulty or degraded capacitors is a common culprit. It's also a relatively simple first thing to try when fault-finding - always start with the simplest. :-)
The sheer level of sarcasm in this video made my sarcasm detector explode. I am now minus an arm. Thank you...
My kind of project! But, my results are rarely so professional looking. Great video. Good to see my coffee money donation is well spent.
You made a disco lamp.
I love the part when you broke the whole glass
_"What we're going to do is, we're going to tap it very, very gently with a hammer..."_ *SMASH!* _"Excellent!"_
I very nearly choked.
OMG, this just gave me the BEST idea for a project... 240v LED filament.... Fanny Flambeaux!
All the fun of the danger without the burnout, think of the hours of fun the kids will have, plus it will save you money by spending your Saturdays in A&E instead of those expensive theme parks!
You are such a wonderful nerd. Love your videos. "And remember if you try your own repair, do be sure to video record the project and share your obituary."
