Most people, including me, discovered that masterpiece in godfather 3. And thats ok. Al Pacino with his scream of agony and pain made it super emotional. Say what you want about the movie but this scene showed that pacino was the only actor to play michael.
So true. But I remember hearing it first in Raging Bull with Deniro. But in The Godfather 3 it made it so much more emotional. That movie, that scene is the only piece of cinema that made me tear up. 🥺
I heard it first on a Kleenex tissue advertisement in the early 1980s and has touched me every since , so much so that I have it in my will for it to be played as they take me out of the church on my last journey , almost written for that as the last few chords you can hear the harp , which usually is associated with heaven .
I applaud Andre & his orchestra for reviving & keeping Classical music tuned up in our times. It deserves the attention & respect it had over the last centuries and thanks to people like Andre Rieu we are all still familiar with all this masterpieces in the 21st Century.
I watched a moving documentary about a blind piano tuner who was world class in his field. He would travel the world tuning pianos for the rich and famous, people like Elton John before concert performances. Unfortunately, due to a viral infection he lost 90% of his hearing. How cruel is that? He said this was his favourite song and I'll never forget the sight of him trying to listening to this, tears rolling down his cheeks because he could barely hear it. Heart-breaking.
One of the greatest and most wonderful pieces of music ever! My favorite performance for it is in Andre Rieu album “Dreaming”, that performance is out of this world.
While not everyone did, I really loved Godfather III, and the whole trilogy as one big movie, with a perfect ending scene. This piece brings tears to my eyes every time I recall Michael's silent screaming. So fitting. So... human.

Some people grew up with culture, and know this piece from having heard it in their youth. Others encountered it during a pivotal scene in a somewhat underrated film. Then there are those such as myself, who upon hearing this music immediately picture a poor soul ensconced in an inflatable dinosaur suit, feet encumbered by rollerblades, helplessly tumbling down a flight of stairs and crashing face first onto a NBA basketball court. We do not lead the same lives.
