Kanchi Sankara Madam follows Rig Vedam. To become an Acharya the main qualification is he must be thorough and master in all four Vedas, particularly Rig Veda and upanishads. Must follow celebacy, leave the home, relatives and friends once for all. He has to give atmapindam ritual as if he died and have to spend sleepless whole night before assumig sanyasi. Many other stringent rituals are there before and after assuming sanyasam. Giving sanyasam is not based on recommendations from mother or father.
Nakeeran spreading unwanted false rumors in the community especially targeting brahmins. Even Adi Sankara faced problems when His mother died. No one came to carry the dead body of his mother. Please read the full history of Adi Sankara. You people don't want Veda Pandits, Sanskrit, Hindi, and Mathematics and only promote corruption and commission.

This is the basic teaching of Sri Adi Shankara also. So it is really pathetic that we see how the Heirs and successors of these Institutions are choosen by some unknown persons who loaded with riches. Irrespective of caste, the point that Gurumurthy is "skirting" over is this:
To be selected as a Sankaracharya, the incumbent should be very young, so that he can be trained to be a graduate in all the Hindu scriptures, including how to recite the Vedas, and learn all the canonical texts of Hinduism such as the Agamas which are a collection of literature and scriptures of Hindu schools. Agamas literally means tradition or "that which has come down", and the Agama texts describe cosmology, epistemology, philosophical doctrines, precepts on meditation and practices, four kinds of yoga, mantras, temple construction, deity worship etc. All these studies take more than 10 years, and are best mastered only by a young man. Not by a man who is in his forties.
If Gurumurthy is behind this, he must be considered an apostate and must be kicked out by the Kanchi mutt. Nakkeeran's presentation of the matter is superb, but this above aspect was perhaps something he was not aware of.
If the non-brahmin communities want to become a Sankaracharya, the youngsters need to get trained as above. And since many of the agamas are in Tamil, and since most of the patrons of Kanchi mutt are likely to be Tamilians, a good knowledge of Tamil is needed.
