We just had a ring designed for our 35th wedding anniversary. I absolutely love it! I did not see the point in spending $20,000 for a mined diamond. I did the math. I priced out a similarly rated mined diamond of the same size, cut and clarity. Even if there is no resale value (I'm never selling.), mined diamonds resell for about 60% of purchase price, if you are lucky. Figuring on 60% of the mined diamond's price, I would have to flush away $8,000 to have the pleasure of reselling ny diamond some day. It is a net loss no matter how you look at a mined diamond.
My diamond is every bit a diamond as a mined diamond. I was able to get a D vvs2 cushion cut diamond in the size of ny choice. I will never sell it, and my husband has nothing to prove to me. Best of all, we could afford to buy the ring affordably, protect the Earth, and go on a nice vacation. Win! Win! Win!

Yep, me too. Then celebrities like Princess Grace of Monaco and Liz Taylor, all the way up Victoria Beckham, Beyoncé, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey, started popping up with these door knocker sized diamond rings and us “little people” wanted the look. My husband just “upgraded” me to a 4 carat loose lab emerald cut diamond that I had a jeweler make into a new ring for our 19 year anniversary. For me, going lab wasn’t just about cost (and we literally paid pennies on the dollar compared to a natural diamond) but also sustainability - the first diamond he gave me was a .53 carat natural diamond that belonged to his grandmother and then his mother for the same reason: Cost and sustainability. If I can save money AND be kinder to people and our planet, that’s what’s called a smart investment. #justsaynotoblooddiamonds

My son bought an engagement ring from a very popular famous jeweler. He paid over 10k for the ring. It was a earth natural stone, most of the time, the stone looked very cloudy, and she had to clean it alot. Thats the

LOVE it so much, and am totally open to both mined/natural and lab options from now on. THAT SAID, if money was no object .. honestly i would only stick to natural/mined, there's just something so intrinsically special about one that's billion of years old from deep down in the earth.

If anyone hasn't seen what a real working diamond mine looks like and how it destroys the environment, please look at one. It convinced me to go lab grown. At the end of the day, a lab grown diamond IS a diamond and that's what matters most to me vs. destroying part of our fragile planet.

Team lab all the way! Also, I’m loving that last set with the 2.8 band. I see so many women going for the ultra thin bands and I just don’t get it. They will bend, they will wear and they will eventually break. That happened with both of my grandmothers rings (mom’s mom and dad’s mom). And those large stones look so good with the bigger band. Love your work, Bonnie!

If a person is prone to get robbed with a 5ct they’ll be prone to get rob with 5ct lab as well. The robber can’t tell the difference. Wouldn’t jewlery insurance cover for lost jewelry if losing the expensive ring was an issue due to the value vs the fact that they’ll attract robbers alone from carrying a large ring?

I appreciate everyone’s decision to purchase lab grown. The stone’s presence in the market has definitely shaken the industry. That said, if one cannot or does not want to buy mined diamonds, it is better to buy an alternative precious jewel that one may not have otherwise considered such as morganite, perodite, citrine, tanzanite, or countless other beautiful gems that the earth has given us. Diamonds are great but they not floor and ceiling of constitutes an engagement ring.

I've always been a natural diamond girl! From the heirlooms my grandmother passed on to me, it has felt of sentimental significance. Also, the knowledge that this piece of rock has been around since before the dinosaurs and before humans feels very special; it's as if I'm carrying a little piece of this earth with me. I'd rather trade off a slightly smaller/colored diamond vs a lab grown one. I feel blessed my husband proposed with a natural 2 carat solitaire (and years on, I still spend my days staring at it and admiring it for its beauty). No right or wrong, i have many friends opting for lab nowadays, but in my community, we've been natural for generations!

I’ve always always stayed away from lab-grown diamonds! My engagement ring is mined diamonds. But now, my dilemma is, I’m in the market for a showstopping diamond bracelet. My ideal style is a tennis horizontal, emerald-cut diamond with 10ct+ bracelet. I love the look of two of those stacked together. But with everything being so expensive now, I am considering going the lab route! I bought a small pair of .5ct lab diamond studs ($90) just to try out if I like LG. To be honest, it’s not bad. So now my horizon has broaden, but I’m still not totally convinced! A bracelet like the one I wanted would still cost anywhere from $3500-4500 (LG). LG is depreciating in value rapidly and I’m afraid one day my LG bracelet will have a value of just the gold material ($500). I also enjoy the sentimental thought of wearing natural diamonds and stones that came from the earth. Should I just wait a few more years until LG diamonds have close no value at all and then buy?

If I were picking out an engagement ring today. I would consider Lab. If I wanted slightly bigger carats and had a budget. But no more than 2.5 carats in my opinion. Because larger than 2.5 would draw alot of attention and questions.

Only way I would buy a natural again is if it was an antique old mine cut or something similar, something historically beautiful. We are grappling with what we would like to say to people now…

Husband and I looked at a 3 ct natural VS 2 and it was pretty but I balked at 100,000. I wanted something even larger as I have big hands. No way would I spend 100,000 on a stone at a brick and mortar store when I can get a VVS1 gh color and 3.5 to 4.5 ct for under 10 thousand for lab stone online.

My favourite was the round brilliant with the 5ct eternity. I have a 1ct yellow gold round diamond. I don’t have long fingers but if I could I think I would up grade with lab grown diamonds (purely a budget thing). I would maybe get 2.5 or 3 ct at most. I think that that would be as big as I could go to suit my hand. They are all very beautiful rings and trying them all on must be lovely.

The markup on Lab Grown Diamond is unimaginable. 400%- 500% - 600% and prices are still falling.
Of course jewelers want to sell you a LGD. They're buying LGD for about $300/ct
Now is the time to be a retail jeweler.
In order to not scare away a Natural Diamond buyer, jewelers can only mark the ND up 30%.

@@BarbraPayne It really depends on your personal taste in the end. To me Lab diamonds are ethical sourced, it's a diamond and you get more bang for your buck. You get a higher quality for a lower price.
I do understand the aspect of getting a natural diamond. The Story of being 1000s of years under the earth is very tempting and make it appear more rare. But I just want a ring that lasts, same stone and better quality for less money. Also, in contrary to some who consider their diamonds as Investments, I don't Plan or need to resell.

Not at all! Everyone has their unique preferences when it comes to diamond color. Diamonds in the D to F range are indeed colorless and can appear quite bright, but it's perfectly valid to prefer warmer-toned diamonds that complement your skin tone. In my culture, we pass jewelry from generation to generation. I can't imagine gifting my daughter lab anything: diamonds, rubies, saphires, etc. What am gonna say? " Hey honey, it was in vogue when I was younger because these stones are only a fraction of the cost of natural gemstones. So now, this 4 carat ring is worth $50 bucks or so- here, keep it, give it to your daughter..." All this, when my grandmother gave me a few pieces of jewelry made out of genuine diamonds and rubies? No.
