  • after that first blue cat from earlier in the week, i had to go back. i expected a grind like the other day, and would've been happy to land one. instead, i showed up at sunrise and within 3 hours had bagged almost a dozen blue catfish (and one maybe something else? looking back i'm not sure if it wasn't just a weirder looking one or a channel) for 200+ total pounds, the biggest being a 25.5 lb blue cat. i also ran into a fellow youtube dude (shoutout ‪@FSAdventures‬ ) and managed to give away two (but not three) 20+ pounders for a passerby's family easter cookout. i'll don't know if i'll ever get tired of the sound of baitfeeder/live liner reels going off. fun on surf rods, fun on a 7 foot kastking travel rod.
FYI blue and flathead catfish are considered invasive in the chesapeake bay, and Maryland actually recommends against release (Per the NOAA: "In the Chesapeake Bay, blue catfish are considered an invasive species. They have expanded their range and population so much that they are likely negatively affecting the Bay ecosystem because they eat so many native species, such as striped bass, blue crab, shad, herring, and Atlantic sturgeon.")
thanks to ‪@anglersannapolis9847‬ for the bangin' alewife
