on one hand the ui is calm like “ah yes everything is going smoothly nothing could go wrong” and on the other hand is “HOLY FUCK AHHHH EVERTYTHING IS GOING WRONG”
I noticed studio GAINAX, I think the very Hideaki Anno, always had a passion for conveying stuffs with UI, and very elaborate and unique looking ones XD. Also when they integrated in the show's amazing directing they hit even harder. I saw wonderful animation cuts from lots of great anime, and I could forget them and reappreciate them, but there are moments in Eva where blast doors closing dramatically looks like the greatest thing ever seen on tv xD
@@resonanceofambition Eva has that wonderful strange balance of clearly not wanting to be hard-sci-fi but at same time being incredibly grounded in all the aspects that don't directly concert the angels and part of the evangelions stuff. Which makes perfect sense, as they are mysterious technology in the middle of very mundane technology
I always got the sense that the UIs on Evangelion were based on VFD (Vacuum fluorescent display) or something along those lines, mixed with LCD's or Plasma displays, since pretty much all the tech on the world of EVA' seems to have stagnated after Second Impact (consumer tech at least) or evolved at a much slower pace since the resources of the world were being redirected to either NERV or SEELE.
These designs are so incredibly well thought out. It’s not just random shapes and numbers like in a lot of sci-fi. Everything feels like it actually means something and does something.
Watching this in my tweens was a mistake and the UI and its various horrifying keywords puts me on edge! Especially the synchronizing stuff like the synchrograph going haywire and watching various components drop offline as they get damaged. The religious overtones, LCL and where it comes from, vanishing... and of course the ending. What a franchise.

This was a fucking amazing montage, I love the 90's future'esqu GUI/UIs, and how many small easter eggs are hidden within all the techno mumbo jumbo, its beautiful, and such a well put together video, amazing job

Since june my body when into an auto immune meltdown and I finally got meds to keep it under control but this vid kind of feels like those months that i was undiagnosed.. just facing the chaos of auto immune issues, the machine terror of endless medical tests, yet the possible void of death at the same time. Glad to be better 💪
The UIs are amazing because they don’t give a clear view of the Angel, only an approximation, regardless of accuracy. Mankind cannot gaze upon God, only interpret it.
Strange curiosity challenges my mind when I see how mid to late 90s media attempts to simulate future tech, first time I saw an example of this was probably the daft punk music video for Harder better faster stronger.
